| [1]ויהי איש מהר אפרים ושמו מיכיהו |
[1]There was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was Michah, |
| [2]ויאמר לאמו אלף ומאה הכסף אשר לקח לך ואתי [Q: ואת] אלית וגם אמרת באזני הנה הכסף אתי אני לקחתיו ותאמר אמו ברוך בני ליהוה |
[2]And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, for the which thou cursest, and spakest it, even in mine hearing, behold, the silver is with me, I took it. Then his mother said, Blessed be my son of the Lord. |
| [3]וישב את אלף ומאה הכסף לאמו ותאמר אמו הקדש הקדשתי את הכסף ליהוה מידי לבני לעשות פסל ומסכה ועתה אשיבנו לך |
[3]And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had dedicate the silver to the Lord of mine hand for my son, to make a graven and molten image. Now therefore I will give it thee again. |
| [4]וישב את הכסף לאמו ותקח אמו מאתים כסף ותתנהו לצורף ויעשהו פסל ומסכה ויהי בבית מיכיהו |
[4]And when he had restored the money unto his mother, his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the founder, which made thereof a graven and molten image, and it was in the house of Michah. |
| [5]והאיש מיכה לו בית אלהים ויעש אפוד ותרפים וימלא את יד אחד מבניו ויהי לו לכהן |
[5]And this man Michah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who was his priest. |
| [6]בימים ההם אין מלך בישראל איש הישר בעיניו יעשה |
[6]In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that, which was good in his own eyes. |
| [7]ויהי נער מבית לחם יהודה ממשפחת יהודה והוא לוי והוא גר שם |
[7]There was also a young man out of Bethlehem Judah, of the family of Judah: who was a Levite, and sojourned there. |
| [8]וילך האיש מהעיר מבית לחם יהודה לגור באשר ימצא ויבא הר אפרים עד בית מיכה לעשות דרכו |
[8]And the man departed out of the city, even out of Beth-lehem Judah, to dwell where he could find a place: and as he journeyed, he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Michah |
| [9]ויאמר לו מיכה מאין תבוא ויאמר אליו לוי אנכי מבית לחם יהודה ואנכי הלך לגור באשר אמצא |
[9]And Michah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And the Levite answered him, I come from Beth-lehem Judah, and go to dwell where I may find a place. |
| [10]ויאמר לו מיכה שבה עמדי והיה לי לאב ולכהן ואנכי אתן לך עשרת כסף לימים וערך בגדים ומחיתך וילך הלוי |
[10]Then Michah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by year, and a suit of apparel, and thy meat and drink. So the Levite went in. |
| [11]ויואל הלוי לשבת את האיש ויהי הנער לו כאחד מבניו |
[11]And the Levite was content to dwell with the man, and the young man was unto him as one of his own sons. |
| [12]וימלא מיכה את יד הלוי ויהי לו הנער לכהן ויהי בבית מיכה |
[12]And Michah consecrated the Levite, and the young man was his priest, and was in the house of Michah. |
| [13]ויאמר מיכה־עתה ידעתי כי ייטיב יהוה לי כי היה לי הלוי לכהן |
[13]Then said Michah, Now I know that the Lord will be good unto me, seeing I have a Levite to my priest. |
