| [3]קדש ישראל ליהוה ראשית תבואתה כל אכליו יאשמו רעה תבא אליהם נאם יהוה |
[3]IsraelH3478 was holinessH6944 unto the LORDH3068, and the firstfruitsH7225 of his increaseH8393: all that devourH398[H8802] him shall offendH816[H8799]; evilH7451 shall comeH935[H8799] upon them, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |

| [5]כה אמר יהוה מה מצאו אבותיכם בי עול־כי רחקו מעלי וילכו אחרי ההבל ויהבלו |

| [6]ולא אמרו־איה יהוה המעלה אתנו מארץ מצרים המוליך אתנו במדבר בארץ ערבה ושוחה בארץ ציה וצלמות־בארץ לא עבר בה איש ולא ישב אדם שם |
[6]Neither saidH559[H8804] they, Where is the LORDH3068 that brought us upH5927[H8688] out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, that ledH3212[H8688] us through the wildernessH4057, through a landH776 of desertsH6160 and of pitsH7745, through a landH776 of droughtH6723, and of the shadow of deathH6757, through a landH776 that no manH376 passed throughH5674[H8804], and where no manH120 dweltH3427?[H8804] |
| [7]ואביא אתכם אל ארץ הכרמל לאכל פריה וטובה ותבאו ותטמאו את ארצי ונחלתי שמתם לתועבה |

| [8]הכהנים לא אמרו איה יהוה ותפשי התורה לא ידעוני והרעים פשעו בי והנבאים נבאו בבעל ואחרי לא יועלו הלכו |
[8]The priestsH3548 saidH559[H8804] not, Where is the LORDH3068? and they that handleH8610[H8802] the lawH8451 knewH3045[H8804] me not: the pastorsH7462[H8802] also transgressedH6586[H8804] against me, and the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012[H8738] by BaalH1168, and walkedH1980[H8804] afterH310 things that do not profitH3276.[H8686] |
| [9]לכן עד אריב אתכם־נאם יהוה ואת בני בניכם אריב |
[9]Wherefore I will yet pleadH7378[H8799] with you, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, and with your children'sH1121 childrenH1121 will I pleadH7378.[H8799] |
| [10]כי עברו איי כתיים וראו וקדר שלחו והתבוננו מאד וראו הן היתה כזאת |
[10]For pass overH5674[H8798] the islesH339 of ChittimH3794, and seeH7200[H8798]; and sendH7971[H8798] unto KedarH6938, and considerH995[H8708] diligentlyH3966, and seeH7200 if there be such a thingH8798. |
| [11]ההימיר גוי אלהים והמה לא אלהים ועמי המיר כבודו בלוא יועיל |
[11]Hath a nationH1471 changedH3235[H8689] their godsH430, which are yet no godsH430? but my peopleH5971 have changedH4171[H8689] their gloryH3519 for that which doth not profitH3276.[H8686] |
| [12]שמו שמים על זאת ושערו חרבו מאד נאם יהוה |
[12]Be astonishedH8074[H8798], O ye heavensH8064, at this, and be horribly afraidH8175[H8798], be ye veryH3966 desolateH2717[H8798], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
| [13]כי שתים רעות עשה עמי אתי עזבו מקור מים חיים לחצב להם בארות־בארת נשברים אשר לא יכלו המים |
[13]For my peopleH5971 have committedH6213[H8804] twoH8147 evilsH7451; they have forsakenH5800[H8804] me the fountainH4726 of livingH2416 watersH4325, and hewed them outH2672[H8800] cisternsH877, brokenH7665[H8737] cisternsH877, that can holdH3557[H8686] no waterH4325. |
| [14]העבד ישראל־אם יליד בית הוא מדוע היה לבז |
[14]Is IsraelH3478 a servantH5650? is he a homebornH1004[H3211] slave? whyH4069 is he spoiledH957? |
| [15]עליו ישאגו כפרים נתנו קולם וישיתו ארצו לשמה עריו נצתה [Q: נצתו] מבלי ישב |

| [17]הלוא זאת תעשה לך עזבך את יהוה אלהיך בעת מולכך בדרך |
[17]Hast thou not procuredH6213[H8799] this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsakenH5800[H8800] the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, whenH6256 he ledH3212[H8688] thee by the wayH1870? |
| [18]ועתה מה לך לדרך מצרים לשתות מי שחור ומה לך לדרך אשור לשתות מי נהר |
[18]And now what hast thou to do in the wayH1870 of EgyptH4714, to drinkH8354[H8800] the watersH4325 of SihorH7883? or what hast thou to do in the wayH1870 of AssyriaH804, to drinkH8354[H8800] the watersH4325 of the riverH5104? |
| [19]תיסרך רעתך ומשבותיך תוכחך ודעי וראי כי רע ומר עזבך את יהוה אלהיך ולא פחדתי אליך נאם אדני יהוה צבאות |
[19]Thine own wickednessH7451 shall correctH3256[H8762] thee, and thy backslidingsH4878 shall reproveH3198[H8686] thee: knowH3045[H8798] therefore and seeH7200[H8798] that it is an evilH7451 thing and bitterH4751, that thou hast forsakenH5800[H8800] the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and that my fearH6345 is not in thee, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635. |
| [20]כי מעולם שברתי עלך נתקתי מוסרותיך ותאמרי לא אעבוד [Q: אעבור] כי על כל גבעה גבהה ותחת כל עץ רענן את צעה זנה |

| [21]ואנכי נטעתיך שורק כלה זרע אמת ואיך נהפכת לי סורי הגפן נכריה |
[21]Yet I had plantedH5193[H8804] thee a noble vineH8321, wholly a rightH571 seedH2233: how then art thou turnedH2015[H8738] into the degenerate plantH5494 of a strangeH5237 vine unto meH1612? |
| [22]כי אם תכבסי בנתר ותרבי לך ברית־נכתם עונך לפני נאם אדני יהוה |

| [23]איך תאמרי לא נטמאתי אחרי הבעלים לא הלכתי־ראי דרכך בגיא דעי מה עשית בכרה קלה משרכת דרכיה |
[23]How canst thou sayH559[H8799], I am not pollutedH2930[H8738], I have not goneH1980[H8804] afterH310 BaalimH1168? seeH7200[H8798] thy wayH1870 in the valleyH1516, knowH3045[H8798] what thou hast doneH6213[H8804]: thou art a swiftH7031 dromedaryH1072 traversingH8308[H8764] her waysH1870; |
| [24]פרה למד מדבר באות נפשו [Q: נפשה] שאפה רוח־תאנתה מי ישיבנה כל מבקשיה לא ייעפו בחדשה ימצאונה |
[24]A wild assH6501 usedH3928 to the wildernessH4057, that snuffeth upH7602[H8804] the windH7307 at her pleasureH185[H5315]; in her occasionH8385 who can turn her awayH7725[H8686]? all they that seekH1245[H8764] her will not wearyH3286[H8799] themselves; in her monthH2320 they shall findH4672 herH8799. |
| [25]מנעי רגלך מיחף וגורנך [Q: וגרונך] מצמאה ותאמרי נואש־לוא כי אהבתי זרים ואחריהם אלך |

| [26]כבשת גנב כי ימצא כן הבישו בית ישראל המה מלכיהם שריהם וכהניהם ונביאיהם |
[26]As the thiefH1590 is ashamedH1322 when he is foundH4672[H8735], so is the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 ashamedH3001[H8689]; they, their kingsH4428, their princesH8269, and their priestsH3548, and their prophetsH5030, |
| [27]אמרים לעץ אבי אתה ולאבן את ילדתני [Q: ילדתנו] כי פנו אלי ערף ולא פנים ובעת רעתם יאמרו קומה והושיענו |
[27]SayingH559[H8802] to a stockH6086, Thou art my fatherH1; and to a stoneH68, Thou hast brought me forthH3205[H8804]: for they have turnedH6437[H8804] their backH6203 unto me, and not their faceH6440: but in the timeH6256 of their troubleH7451 they will sayH559[H8799], AriseH6965[H8798], and saveH3467 usH8685. |
| [28]ואיה אלהיך אשר עשית לך־יקומו אם יושיעוך בעת רעתך כי מספר עריך היו אלהיך יהודה |
[28]But where are thy godsH430 that thou hast madeH6213[H8804] thee? let them ariseH6965[H8799], if they can saveH3467[H8686] thee in the timeH6256 of thy troubleH7451: for according to the numberH4557 of thy citiesH5892 are thy godsH430, O JudahH3063. |
| [29]למה תריבו אלי כלכם פשעתם בי נאם יהוה |
[29]Wherefore will ye pleadH7378[H8799] with me? ye all have transgressedH6586[H8804] against me, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
| [30]לשוא הכיתי את בניכם מוסר לא לקחו אכלה חרבכם נביאיכם כאריה משחית |
[30]In vainH7723 have I smittenH5221[H8689] your childrenH1121; they receivedH3947[H8804] no correctionH4148: your own swordH2719 hath devouredH398[H8804] your prophetsH5030, like a destroyingH7843[H8688] lionH738. |
| [31]הדור אתם ראו דבר יהוה המדבר הייתי לישראל אם ארץ מאפליה מדוע אמרו עמי רדנו־לוא נבוא עוד אליך |
[31]O generationH1755, seeH7200[H8798] ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. Have I been a wildernessH4057 unto IsraelH3478? a landH776 of darknessH3991? wherefore sayH559[H8804] my peopleH5971, We are lordsH7300[H8804]; we will comeH935 no more unto theeH8799? |
| [32]התשכח בתולה עדיה כלה קשריה ועמי שכחוני ימים אין מספר |
[32]Can a maidH1330 forgetH7911[H8799] her ornamentsH5716, or a brideH3618 her attireH7196? yet my peopleH5971 have forgottenH7911[H8804] me daysH3117 without numberH4557. |
| [33]מה תיטבי דרכך לבקש אהבה לכן גם את הרעות למדתי [Q: למדת] את דרכיך |
[33]Why trimmestH3190[H8686] thou thy wayH1870 to seekH1245[H8763] loveH160? therefore hast thou also taughtH3925[H8765] the wicked onesH7451 thy waysH1870. |
| [34]גם בכנפיך נמצאו דם נפשות אביונים נקיים לא במחתרת מצאתים כי על כל אלה |
[34]Also in thy skirtsH3671 is foundH4672[H8738] the bloodH1818 of the soulsH5315 of the poorH34 innocentsH5355: I have not foundH4672[H8804] it by secret search, but upon all theseH4290. |
| [35]ותאמרי כי נקיתי אך שב אפו ממני הנני נשפט אותך על אמרך לא חטאתי |
[35]Yet thou sayestH559[H8799], Because I am innocentH5352[H8738], surely his angerH639 shall turnH7725[H8804] from me. Behold, I will pleadH8199[H8737] with thee, because thou sayestH559[H8800], I have not sinnedH2398.[H8804] |
| [36]מה תזלי מאד לשנות את דרכך גם ממצרים תבשי כאשר בשת מאשור |
[36]Why gaddest thou aboutH235[H8799] so muchH3966 to changeH8138[H8763] thy wayH1870? thou also shalt be ashamedH954[H8799] of EgyptH4714, as thou wast ashamedH954[H8804] of AssyriaH804. |
| [37]גם מאת זה תצאי וידיך על ראשך כי מאס יהוה במבטחיך ולא תצליחי להם |
[37]Yea, thou shalt go forthH3318[H8799] from him, and thine handsH3027 upon thine headH7218: for the LORDH3068 hath rejectedH3988[H8804] thy confidencesH4009, and thou shalt not prosperH6743 in themH8686. |
