[1]They sayH559[H8800], If a manH376 put awayH7971[H8762] his wifeH802, and she goH1980[H8804] from him, and become anotherH312 man'sH376, shall he return unto her againH7725[H8799]? shall not that landH776 be greatlyH2610[H8800] pollutedH2610[H8799]? but thou hast played the harlotH2181[H8804] with manyH7227 loversH7453; yet return againH7725[H8800] to me, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[1]...saying: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, may he return unto her again? Will not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; and wouldest thou yet return to Me? saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇. |
[2]Lift upH5375[H8798] thine eyesH5869 unto the high placesH8205, and seeH7200[H8798] whereH375 thou hast not been lienH7693[H8795][H8676][H7901][H8795] with. In the waysH1870 hast thou satH3427[H8804] for them, as the ArabianH6163 in the wildernessH4057; and thou hast pollutedH2610[H8686] the landH776 with thy whoredomsH2184 and with thy wickednessH7451. |
[2]Lift up thine eyes unto the high hills, and see: where hast thou not been lain with? By the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy harlotries and with thy wickedness. |
[3]Therefore the showersH7241 have been withholdenH4513[H8735], and there hath been no latter rainH4456; and thou hadst a whore'sH2181[H8802][H802] foreheadH4696, thou refusedstH3985[H8765] to be ashamedH3637.[H8736] |
[3]Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hadst a harlo forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed. |
[4]Wilt thou not from this time cryH7121[H8804] unto me, My fatherH1, thou art the guideH441 of my youthH5271? |
[4]Didst thou not just now cry unto Me: 'My father, Thou art the friend of my youth. |
[5]Will he reserveH5201[H8799] his anger for everH5769? will he keepH8104[H8799] it to the endH5331? Behold, thou hast spokenH1696[H8765] and doneH6213[H8799] evil thingsH7451 as thou couldestH3201.[H8799] |
[5]Will He bear grudge for ever? Will He keep it to the end?' Behold, thou hast spoken, but hast done evil things, and hast had thy way. |
[6]The LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] also unto me in the daysH3117 of JosiahH2977 the kingH4428, Hast thou seenH7200[H8804] that which backslidingH4878 IsraelH3478 hath doneH6213[H8804]? she is gone upH1980[H8802] upon every highH1364 mountainH2022 and underH8478 every greenH7488 treeH6086, and there hath played the harlotH2181.[H8799] |
[6]And 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 said unto me in the days of Josiah the king: 'Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel did? she went up upon every high mountain and under every leafy tree, and there played the harlot. |
[7]And I saidH559[H8799] afterH310 she had doneH6213[H8800] all these things, TurnH7725[H8799] thou unto me. But she returnedH7725[H8804] not. And her treacherousH901 sisterH269 JudahH3063 sawH7200 itH8799. |
[7]And I said: After she hath done all these things, she will return unto me; but she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. |
[8]And I sawH7200[H8799], when for all the causesH182 whereby backslidingH4878 IsraelH3478 committed adulteryH5003[H8765] I had put her awayH7971[H8765], and givenH5414[H8799] her a billH5612 of divorceH3748; yet her treacherousH898[H8802] sisterH269 JudahH3063 fearedH3372[H8804] not, but wentH3212[H8799] and played the harlotH2181 alsoH8799. |
[8]And I saw, when, forasmuch as backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, that yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot; |
[9]And it came to pass through the lightnessH6963 of her whoredomH2184, that she defiledH2610[H8799] the landH776, and committed adulteryH5003[H8799] with stonesH68 and with stocksH6086. |
[9]And it came to pass through the lightness of her harlotry, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks; |
[10]And yet for all this her treacherousH901 sisterH269 JudahH3063 hath not turnedH7725[H8804] unto me with her whole heartH3820, but feignedlyH8267, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[10]And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto Me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇— |
[11]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto me, The backslidingH4878 IsraelH3478 hath justifiedH6663[H8765] herselfH5315 more than treacherousH898[H8802] JudahH3063. |
[11]Even 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 said unto me—backsliding Israel hath proved herself more righteous than treacherous Judah. |
[12]GoH1980[H8800] and proclaimH7121[H8804] these wordsH1697 toward the northH6828, and sayH559[H8804], ReturnH7725[H8798], thou backslidingH4878 IsraelH3478, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068; and I will not cause mine angerH6440 to fallH5307[H8686] upon you: for I am mercifulH2623, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, and I will not keepH5201[H8799] anger for everH5769. |
[12]Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: return, thou backsliding Israel, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇; I will not frown upon you; for I am merciful, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇, I will not bear grudge for ever. |
[13]Only acknowledgeH3045[H8798] thine iniquityH5771, that thou hast transgressedH6586[H8804] against the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and hast scatteredH6340[H8762] thy waysH1870 to the strangersH2114[H8801] under every greenH7488 treeH6086, and ye have not obeyedH8085[H8804] my voiceH6963, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[13]Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every leafy tree, and ye have not hearkened to My voice, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇. |
[14]TurnH7725[H8798], O backslidingH7726 childrenH1121, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068; for I am marriedH1166[H8804] unto you: and I will takeH3947[H8804] you oneH259 of a cityH5892, and twoH8147 of a familyH4940, and I will bringH935[H8689] you to ZionH6726: |
[14]Return, O backsliding children, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇; for I am a lord unto you, and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion; |
[15]And I will giveH5414[H8804] you pastorsH7462[H8802] according to mine heartH3820, which shall feedH7462[H8804] you with knowledgeH1844 and understandingH7919.[H8687] |
[15]And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. |
[16]And it shall come to pass, when ye be multipliedH7235[H8799] and increasedH6509[H8804] in the landH776, in those daysH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, they shall sayH559[H8799] no more, The arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068: neither shall it comeH5927[H8799] to mindH3820: neither shall they rememberH2142[H8799] it; neither shall they visitH6485[H8799] it; neither shall that be doneH6213 any moreH8735. |
[16]And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇, they shall say no more: The ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they make mention of it; neither shall they miss it; neither shall it be made any more. |
[17]At that timeH6256 they shall callH7121[H8799] JerusalemH3389 the throneH3678 of the LORDH3068; and all the nationsH1471 shall be gatheredH6960[H8738] unto it, to the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, to JerusalemH3389: neither shall they walkH3212[H8799] any more afterH310 the imaginationH8307 of their evilH7451 heartH3820. |
[17]At that time they shall call Jerusalem The throne of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇, to Jerusalem; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart. |
[18]In those daysH3117 the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 shall walkH3212[H8799] with the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and they shall comeH935[H8799] togetherH3162 out of the landH776 of the northH6828 to the landH776 that I have given for an inheritanceH5157[H8689] unto your fathersH1. |
[18]In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.' |
[19]But I saidH559[H8804], How shall I putH7896[H8799] thee among the childrenH1121, and giveH5414[H8799] thee a pleasantH2532 landH776, a goodlyH6643 heritageH5159 of the hostsH6635 of nationsH1471? and I saidH559[H8799], Thou shalt callH7121[H8799] me, My fatherH1; and shalt not turn awayH7725[H8799] from meH310. |
[19]But I said: 'How would I put thee among the sons, and give thee a pleasant land, the goodliest heritage of the nations!' And I said: 'Thou shalt call Me, My father; and shalt not turn away from following Me.' |
[20]SurelyH403 as a wifeH802 treacherouslyH898[H8804] departeth from her husbandH7453, so have ye dealt treacherouslyH898[H8804] with me, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[20]Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇. |
[21]A voiceH6963 was heardH8085[H8738] upon the high placesH8205, weepingH1065 and supplicationsH8469 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: for they have pervertedH5753[H8689] their wayH1870, and they have forgottenH7911[H8804] the LORDH3068 their GodH430. |
[21]Hark! upon the high hills is heard the suppliant weeping of the children of Israel; for that they have perverted their way, they have forgotte 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 their God. |
[22]ReturnH7725[H8798], ye backslidingH7726 childrenH1121, and I will healH7495[H8799] your backslidingsH4878. Behold, we comeH857[H8804] unto thee; for thou art the LORDH3068 our GodH430. |
[22]Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings.—'Here we are, we are come unto Thee; for Thou art 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 our God. |
[23]TrulyH403 in vainH8267 is salvation hoped for from the hillsH1389, and from the multitudeH1995 of mountainsH2022: trulyH403 in the LORDH3068 our GodH430 is the salvationH8668 of IsraelH3478. |
[23]Truly vain have proved the hills, the uproar on the mountains; truly in 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 our God is the salvation of Israel. |
[24]For shameH1322 hath devouredH398[H8804] the labourH3018 of our fathersH1 from our youthH5271; their flocksH6629 and their herdsH1241, their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323. |
[24]But the shameful thing hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. |
[25]We lie downH7901[H8799] in our shameH1322, and our confusionH3639 coverethH3680[H8762] us: for we have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068 our GodH430, we and our fathersH1, from our youthH5271 even unto this dayH3117, and have not obeyedH8085[H8804] the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430. |
[25]Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not hearkened to the voice of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 our God.' |
