|
[1]Then ShephatiahH8203 the sonH1121 of MattanH4977, and GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of PashurH6583, and JucalH3116 the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, and PashurH6583 the sonH1121 of MalchiahH4441, heardH8085[H8799] the wordsH1697 that JeremiahH3414 had spokenH1696[H8764] unto all the peopleH5971, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[1]Saphatiah the sonne of Mathan, Gedaliah the sonne of Pashur, Iucal the sonne of Selemiah, & Pashur the sonne of Melchia, perceaued the wordes that Ieremie had spoken vnto all the people, namely, on this maner |
[2]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, He that remainethH3427[H8802] in this cityH5892 shall dieH4191[H8799] by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: but he that goeth forthH3318[H8802] to the ChaldeansH3778 shall liveH2421[H8804]; for he shall have his lifeH5315 for a preyH7998, and shall liveH2421[H8799][H8675][H2425].[H8804] |
[2]Thus saith the Lorde, Who so remayneth in this citie, shall perishe either with the sworde, with hunger, or with pestilence: but who so falleth vnto the Chaldees shal escape, winning his soule for a pray, and shall lyue |
[3]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, This cityH5892 shall surelyH5414[H8736] be givenH5414[H8735] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 armyH2428, which shall takeH3920 itH8804. |
[3]For thus saith the Lorde, This citie no doubt must be deliuered into the power of the kyng of Babylon, and he also shall winne it |
[4]Therefore the princesH8269 saidH559[H8799] unto the kingH4428, We beseech thee, let this manH376 be put to deathH4191[H8714]: for thusH3651 he weakenethH7503[H8764] the handsH3027 of the menH582 of warH4421 that remainH7604[H8737] in this cityH5892, and the handsH3027 of all the peopleH5971, in speakingH1696[H8763] such wordsH1697 unto them: for this manH376 seekethH1875[H8802] not the welfareH7965 of this peopleH5971, but the hurtH7451. |
[4]Then saide the princes vnto the kyng, Sir, we beseche you let this man be put to death: for thus he discourageth the handes of the souldiours that be in this citie, and the handes of all the people, when he speaketh such wordes vnto them: This man laboureth not for peace of the people, but mischiefe |
[5]Then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], Behold, he is in your handH3027: for the kingH4428 is not he that canH3201[H8799] do any thing against youH1697. |
[5]Zedekia the kyng aunswered, and sayde, Lo, he is in your handes: for the kyng may denie you nothyng |
[6]Then tookH3947[H8799] they JeremiahH3414, and castH7993[H8686] him into the dungeonH953 of MalchiahH4441 the sonH1121 of HammelechH4428, that was in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307: and they let downH7971[H8762] JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256. And in the dungeonH953 there was no waterH4325, but mireH2916: so JeremiahH3414 sunkH2883[H8799] in the mireH2916. |
[6]Then toke they Ieremie and cast him into the dungeon of Melchiah the sonne of Amelech, that dwelt in the fore entrie of the prison, and they let downe Ieremie with coardes into a dungeon, where there was no water, but mire: So Ieremie stack fast in the mire |
[7]Now when EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, oneH376 of the eunuchsH5631 which was in the king'sH4428 houseH1004, heardH8085[H8799] that they had putH5414[H8804] JeremiahH3414 in the dungeonH953; the kingH4428 then sittingH3427[H8802] in the gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144; |
[7]Nowe when Abedmelech the Morian beyng a chaumberlayne in the kynges court, vnderstoode that they had cast Ieremie into the dungeon |
[8]EbedmelechH5663 went forthH3318[H8799] out of the king'sH4428 houseH1004, and spakeH1696[H8762] to the kingH4428, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[8]He went out of the kynges house, and spake to the king, which then sate vnder the port of Beniamin, these wordes |
[9]My lordH113 the kingH4428, these menH582 have done evilH7489[H8689] in all that they have doneH6213[H8804] to JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, whom they have castH7993[H8689] into the dungeonH953; and he is like to dieH4191[H8799] forH6440 hungerH7458 in the placeH8478 where he is: for there is no more breadH3899 in the cityH5892. |
[9]My Lorde the kyng, where as these men meddle with Ieremie the prophete, they do hym wrong [namely] in that they haue put hym in prison, there to dye for hunger: for there is no more bread in the citie |
[10]Then the kingH4428 commandedH6680[H8762] EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, sayingH559[H8800], TakeH3947[H8798] from hence thirtyH7970 menH582 with theeH3027, and take upH5927[H8689] JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 out of the dungeonH953, before he dieH4191.[H8799] |
[10]Then the kyng commaunded Abedmelech the Morian, and sayde, Take from hence thirtie men whom thou wylt, and drawe vp Ieremie the prophete out of the dungeon before he dye |
[11]So EbedmelechH5663 tookH3947[H8799] the menH582 with himH3027, and wentH935[H8799] into the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 under the treasuryH214, and tookH3947[H8799] thence oldH1094 cast cloutsH5499 and oldH1094 rotten ragsH4418, and let them downH7971[H8762] by cordsH2256 into the dungeonH953 to JeremiahH3414. |
[11]So Abedmelech toke the men with hym, and went to the house of the king, and there vnder the treasurie he gat olde ragges and worne cloutes, and let them downe by a corde into the dungeon to Ieremie |
[12]And EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569 saidH559[H8799] unto JeremiahH3414, PutH7760[H8798] now these oldH1094 cast cloutsH5499 and rotten ragsH4418 under thine armholesH679[H3027] under the cordsH2256. And JeremiahH3414 didH6213 soH8799. |
[12]And Abedmelech the Morian sayde vnto the prophete Ieremie: O put these ragges and cloutes vnder thine arme holes betwixt them and the cordes: And Ieremie did so |
[13]So they drew upH4900[H8799] JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256, and took him upH5927[H8686] out of the dungeonH953: and JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427[H8799] in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307. |
[13]So they drewe vp Ieremie with cordes, & toke hym out of the dungeon: and he remayned in the fore entrie of the prison |
[14]Then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 sentH7971[H8799], and tookH3947[H8799] JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 unto him into the thirdH7992 entryH3996 that is in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068: and the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto JeremiahH3414, I will askH7592[H8802] thee a thingH1697; hideH3582 nothing from meH8762. |
[14]Then Zedekia the kyng sent, & caused Ieremie the prophete to be called vnto hym, into the thirde entrie that is in the house of the Lorde, and the kyng sayde vnto Ieremie: I wyll aske thee somewhat, but hyde nothyng fro me |
[15]Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559[H8799] unto ZedekiahH6667, If I declareH5046[H8686] it unto thee, wilt thou not surelyH4191[H8687] put me to deathH4191[H8686]? and if I give thee counselH3289[H8799], wilt thou not hearkenH8085 unto meH8799? |
[15]Then Ieremie aunswered Zedekia, If I be playne vnto thee, thou wylt cause me to suffer death: yf I geue thee counsayle, thou wylt not folowe me |
[16]So ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 swareH7650[H8735] secretlyH5643 unto JeremiahH3414, sayingH559[H8800], As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, that madeH6213[H8804] us this soulH5315, I will not put thee to deathH4191[H8686], neither will I giveH5414[H8799] thee into the handH3027 of these menH582 that seekH1245[H8764] thy lifeH5315. |
[16]So the kyng swore an oth secretely to Ieremie, saying: As the Lorde liueth that made vs these soules, I wyll not slay thee, nor geue thee into the handes of them that seke after thy lyfe |
[17]Then saidH559[H8799] JeremiahH3414 unto ZedekiahH6667, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; If thou wilt assuredlyH3318[H8800] go forthH3318[H8799] unto the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, then thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421[H8804], and this cityH5892 shall not be burnedH8313[H8735] with fireH784; and thou shalt liveH2421[H8804], and thine houseH1004: |
[17]Then sayde Ieremie vnto Zedekia, Thus saith the Lorde of hoastes the God of Israel: If case be that thou wylt go foorth vnto the kyng of Babylons princes, thou shalt saue thy lyfe, and this citie shall not be brent, yea both thou and thy housholde shall escape with your lyues |
[18]But if thou wilt not go forthH3318[H8799] to the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, then shall this cityH5892 be givenH5414[H8738] into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, and they shall burnH8313[H8804] it with fireH784, and thou shalt not escape outH4422[H8735] of their handH3027. |
[18]But yf thou wylt not go foorth to the kyng of Babylons princes, then shall this citie be deliuered into the handes of the Chaldees, which shall set fire vpon it, and thou shalt not be able to escape them |
[19]And ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto JeremiahH3414, I am afraidH1672[H8802] of the JewsH3064 that are fallenH5307[H8804] to the ChaldeansH3778, lest they deliverH5414[H8799] me into their handH3027, and they mockH5953 meH8694. |
[19]And Zedekia said vnto Ieremie: I am afrayde for the Iewes that are fled vnto the Chaldees, lest I come into their handes, & so they to haue me in derision |
[20]But JeremiahH3414 saidH559[H8799], They shall not deliverH5414[H8799] thee. ObeyH8085[H8798], I beseech thee, the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, which I speakH1696[H8802] unto thee: so it shall be wellH3190[H8799] unto thee, and thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421.[H8799] |
[20]But Ieremie aunswered, No, they shall not betray thee: O hearken vnto the voyce of the Lorde I beseche thee, which I speake vnto thee, so shalt thou be well, and saue thy lyfe |
[21]But if thou refuseH3986 to go forthH3318[H8800], this is the wordH1697 that the LORDH3068 hath shewedH7200 meH8689: |
[21]But yf thou wylt not go foorth, the Lorde hath tolde me this playnely |
[22]And, behold, all the womenH802 that are leftH7604[H8738] in the kingH4428 of Judah'sH3063 houseH1004 shall be brought forthH3318[H8716] to the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, and those women shall sayH559[H8802], Thy friendsH582[H7965] have set thee onH5496[H8689], and have prevailedH3201[H8804] against thee: thy feetH7272 are sunkH2883[H8717] in the mireH1206, and they are turned awayH5472[H8738] backH268. |
[22]Beholde, all the women that are left in the kyng of Iudas house, shalbe led foorth vnto the kyng of Babylons princes: and they shall say, thou art deceaued, and the men in whom thou didst put thy trust, haue gotten thee vnder, & set thy feete fast in the mire, and gone their way from thee |
[23]So they shall bring outH3318[H8688] all thy wivesH802 and thy childrenH1121 to the ChaldeansH3778: and thou shalt not escape outH4422[H8735] of their handH3027, but shalt be takenH8610[H8735] by the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894: and thou shalt cause this cityH5892 to be burnedH8313[H8799] with fireH784. |
[23]Therfore all thy wyues with thy children shall they leade foorth vnto the Chaldees, and thou shalt not escape their handes: but shalt be the kyng of Babylons prisoner, and this citie shalt thou cause to be burnt |
[24]Then saidH559[H8799] ZedekiahH6667 unto JeremiahH3414, Let no manH376 knowH3045[H8799] of these wordsH1697, and thou shalt not dieH4191.[H8799] |
[24]Then sayde Zedekia vnto Ieremie: Loke that no body knowe of these wordes, and thou shalt not dye |
[25]But if the princesH8269 hearH8085[H8799] that I have talkedH1696[H8765] with thee, and they comeH935[H8804] unto thee, and sayH559[H8804] unto thee, DeclareH5046[H8685] unto us now what thou hast saidH1696[H8765] unto the kingH4428, hideH3582[H8762] it not from us, and we will not put thee to deathH4191[H8686]; also what the kingH4428 saidH1696 unto theeH8765: |
[25]But yf the princes perceaue that I haue talked with thee, and come vnto thee, saying: O speake, what sayde the kyng to thee, hyde it not from vs, and we wyll not put thee to death: tell vs (we pray thee) what sayde the kyng to thee |
[26]Then thou shalt sayH559[H8804] unto them, I presentedH5307[H8688] my supplicationH8467 beforeH6440 the kingH4428, that he would not cause me to returnH7725[H8687] to Jonathan'sH3083 houseH1004, to dieH4191 thereH8800. |
[26]See thou geue them this aunswere: I haue humbly besought the kyng that he wyll let me lye no more in Iehonathans house, that I dye not there |
[27]Then cameH935[H8799] all the princesH8269 unto JeremiahH3414, and askedH7592[H8799] him: and he toldH5046[H8686] them according to all these wordsH1697 that the kingH4428 had commandedH6680[H8765]. So they left off speakingH2790[H8686] with him; for the matterH1697 was not perceivedH8085.[H8738] |
[27]Then came all the princes vnto Ieremie, and asked hym: and he tolde them after the maner as the kyng bad hym. Then they helde their peace, and let hym alone: for they perceaued nothyng |
[28]So JeremiahH3414 abodeH3427[H8799] in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307 until the dayH3117 that JerusalemH3389 was takenH3920[H8738]: and he was there when JerusalemH3389 was takenH3920.[H8738] |
[28]So Ieremie abode styll in the fore entrie of the prison, vntyll the day that Hierusalem was wonne |
