[1]But in the seventh month came Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah. |
| [2]Then aroseH6965[H8799] IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, and the tenH6235 menH582 that were with him, and smoteH5221[H8686] GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227 with the swordH2719, and slewH4191[H8686] him, whom the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had made governorH6485[H8689] over the landH776. |
[2]Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah with these ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land. |
| [3]IshmaelH3458 also slewH5221[H8689] all the JewsH3064 that were with him, even with GedaliahH1436, at MizpahH4709, and the ChaldeansH3778 that were foundH4672[H8738] there, and the menH582 of warH4421. |
[3]Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and all the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war. |
| [4]And it came to pass the secondH8145 dayH3117 after he had slainH4191[H8687] GedaliahH1436, and no manH376 knewH3045 itH8804, |
[4]Now the second day that he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it, |
| [5]That there cameH935[H8799] certainH582 from ShechemH7927, from ShilohH7887, and from SamariaH8111, even fourscoreH8084 menH376, having their beardsH2206 shavenH1548[H8794], and their clothesH899 rentH7167[H8803], and having cutH1413[H8706] themselves, with offeringsH4503 and incenseH3828 in their handH3027, to bringH935[H8687] them to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. |
[5]There came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent and cut, with offerings and incense in their hands to offer in the house of the Lord. |
| [6]And IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 went forthH3318[H8799] from MizpahH4709 to meetH7125[H8800] them, weepingH1058[H8802] all alongH1980[H8800] as he wentH1980[H8802]: and it came to pass, as he metH6298[H8800] them, he saidH559[H8799] unto them, ComeH935[H8798] to GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296. |
[6]And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went: and when he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. |
| [7]And it was so, when they cameH935[H8800] into the midstH8432 of the cityH5892, that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 slewH7819[H8799] them, and cast them into the midstH8432 of the pitH953, he, and the men that were with himH582. |
[7]And when they came into the midst of the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he and the men that were with him. |
| [8]But tenH6235 menH582 were foundH4672[H8738] among them that saidH559[H8799] unto IshmaelH3458, SlayH4191[H8686] us not: for we haveH3426 treasuresH4301 in the fieldH7704, of wheatH2406, and of barleyH8184, and of oilH8081, and of honeyH1706. So he forbareH2308[H8799], and slewH4191[H8689] them not amongH8432 their brethrenH251. |
[8]But ten men were found among them, that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey: so he stayed, and slew them not among their brethren. |
| [9]Now the pitH953 wherein IshmaelH3458 had castH7993[H8689] all the dead bodiesH6297 of the menH582, whom he had slainH5221[H8689] becauseH3027 of GedaliahH1436, was it which AsaH609 the kingH4428 had madeH6213[H8804] for fearH6440 of BaashaH1201 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478: and IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 filledH4390[H8765] it with them that were slainH2491. |
[9]Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast the dead bodies of the men (whom he had slain because of Gedaliah) is it, which Asa the king had made because of Basha king of Israel , and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain. |
| [10]Then IshmaelH3458 carried away captiveH7617[H8799] all the residueH7611 of the peopleH5971 that were in MizpahH4709, even the king'sH4428 daughtersH1323, and all the peopleH5971 that remainedH7604[H8737] in MizpahH4709, whom NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the guardH2876 had committedH6485[H8689] to GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296: and IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 carried them away captiveH7617[H8799], and departedH3212[H8799] to go overH5674[H8800] to the AmmonitesH1121.[H5983] |
[10]Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-ad-an the chief steward had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites. |
| [11]But when JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428 that were with him, heardH8085[H8799] of all the evilH7451 that IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 H6213had doneH8804 |
[11]But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the host that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done, |
| [12]Then they tookH3947[H8799] all the menH582, and wentH3212[H8799] to fightH3898[H8736] with IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, and foundH4672[H8799] him by the greatH7227 watersH4325 that are in GibeonH1391. |
[12]Then they all took their men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon. |
| [13]Now it came to pass, that when all the peopleH5971 which were with IshmaelH3458 sawH7200[H8800] JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428 that were with him, then they were gladH8055.[H8799] |
[13]Now when all the people whom Ishmael carried away captive, saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the host, that were with him, they were glad. |
| [14]So all the peopleH5971 that IshmaelH3458 had carried away captiveH7617[H8804] from MizpahH4709 cast aboutH5437[H8799] and returnedH7725[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] unto JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143. |
[14]So all the people, that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah, returned and came again, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah. |
| [15]But IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 escapedH4422[H8738] fromH6440 JohananH3110 with eightH8083 menH582, and wentH3212[H8799] to the AmmonitesH1121.[H5983] |
[15]But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites. |
| [16]Then tookH3947[H8799] JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and all the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428 that were with him, all the remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971 whom he had recoveredH7725[H8689] from IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, from MizpahH4709, afterH310 that he had slainH5221[H8689] GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, even mightyH1397 menH582 of warH4421, and the womenH802, and the childrenH2945, and the eunuchsH5631, whom he had brought againH7725[H8689] from GibeonH1391: |
[16]Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the host that were with him, all the remnant of the people, whom Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had carried away captive from Mizpah, (after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam) even the strong men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon: |

[17]And they departed and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go and to enter into Egypt, |
| [18]BecauseH6440 of the ChaldeansH3778: for they were afraidH3372[H8804] of them, because IshmaelH3458 the sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418 had slainH5221[H8689] GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, whom the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 made governorH6485[H8689] in the landH776. |
[18]Because of the Chaldeans: for they feared them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land. |
