[1]The wordH1697 that came to JeremiahH3414 from the LORDH3068, sayingH559,[H8800] [1]The words that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
[2]StandH5975[H8798] in the gateH8179 of the LORD'SH3068 houseH1004, and proclaimH7121[H8804] there this wordH1697, and sayH559[H8804], HearH8085[H8798] the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, all ye of JudahH3063, that enter inH935[H8802] at these gatesH8179 to worshipH7812[H8692] the LORDH3068. [2]Stand in the gate of the Lord's house and cry this word there, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all ye of Judah that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord.
[3]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, AmendH3190[H8685] your waysH1870 and your doingsH4611, and I will cause you to dwellH7931[H8762] in this placeH4725. [3]Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your works, and I will let you dwell in this place.
[4]TrustH982[H8799] ye not in lyingH8267 wordsH1697, sayingH559[H8800], The templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, The templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, The templeH1964 of the LORD, are theseH3068. [4]Trust not in lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord: this is the temple of the Lord.
[5]For if ye throughlyH3190[H8687] amendH3190[H8686] your waysH1870 and your doingsH4611; if ye throughlyH6213[H8800] executeH6213[H8799] judgmentH4941 between a manH376 and his neighbourH7453; [5]For if you amend and redress your ways and your works: if you execute judgment between a man and his neighbor,
[6]If ye oppressH6231[H8799] not the strangerH1616, the fatherlessH3490, and the widowH490, and shedH8210[H8799] not innocentH5355 bloodH1818 in this placeH4725, neither walkH3212[H8799] afterH310 otherH312 godsH430 to your hurtH7451: [6]And oppress not the stranger, the fatherless and the widow and shed no innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your destruction,
[7]Then will I cause you to dwellH7931[H8765] in this placeH4725, in the landH776 that I gaveH5414[H8804] to your fathersH1, forH5704 everH5769 and everH5769. [7]Then will I let you dwell in this place in the land that I gave unto your fathers, forever and ever.
[8]Behold, ye trustH982[H8802] in lyingH8267 wordsH1697, that cannot profitH3276.[H8687] [8]Behold, you trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
[9]Will ye stealH1589[H8800], murderH7523[H8800], and commit adulteryH5003[H8800], and swearH7650[H8736] falselyH8267, and burn incenseH6999[H8763] unto BaalH1168, and walkH1980[H8800] afterH310 otherH312 godsH430 whom ye knowH3045 notH8804; [9]Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not?
[10]And comeH935[H8804] and standH5975[H8804] beforeH6440 me in this houseH1004, which is calledH7121[H8738] by my nameH8034, and sayH559[H8804], We are deliveredH5337[H8738] to doH6213[H8800] all these abominationsH8441? [10]And come and stand before me in this house, whereupon my name is called, and say, We are delivered, though we have done all these abominations?
[11]Is this houseH1004, which is calledH7121[H8738] by my nameH8034, become a denH4631 of robbersH6530 in your eyesH5869? Behold, even I have seenH7200[H8804] it, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. [11]Is this house become a den of thieves, whereupon my name is called before your eyes? Behold, even I see it, saith the Lord.
[12]But goH3212[H8798] ye now unto my placeH4725 which was in ShilohH7887, where I setH7931[H8765] my nameH8034 at the firstH7223, and seeH7200[H8798] what I didH6213[H8804] to it forH6440 the wickednessH7451 of my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. [12]But go ye now unto my place which was in Shilo, where I set my name at the beginning, and behold, what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
[13]And now, because ye have doneH6213[H8800] all these worksH4639, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, and I spakeH1696[H8762] unto you, rising up earlyH7925[H8687] and speakingH1696[H8763], but ye heardH8085[H8804] not; and I calledH7121[H8799] you, but ye answeredH6030 notH8804; [13]Therefore now because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, (and I rose up early and spake unto you: but when I spake, ye would not hear me, neither when I called, would ye answer).
[14]Therefore will I doH6213[H8804] unto this houseH1004, which is calledH7121[H8738] by my nameH8034, wherein ye trustH982[H8802], and unto the placeH4725 which I gaveH5414[H8804] to you and to your fathersH1, as I have doneH6213[H8804] to ShilohH7887. [14]Therefore will I do unto this house, whereupon my name is called, wherein also ye trust, even unto the place that I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done unto Shilo.
[15]And I will cast you outH7993[H8689] of my sightH6440, as I have cast outH7993[H8689] all your brethrenH251, even the whole seedH2233 of EphraimH669. [15]And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren , even the whole seed of Ephraim.
[16]Therefore prayH6419[H8691] not thou for this peopleH5971, neither lift upH5375[H8799] cryH7440 nor prayerH8605 for themH1157, neither make intercessionH6293[H8799] to me: for I will not hearH8085 theeH8802. [16]Therefore thou shalt not pray for this people, neither lift up cry or prayer for them neither entreat me, for I will not hear thee.
[17]SeestH7200[H8802] thou not what they doH6213[H8802] in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389? [17]Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
[18]The childrenH1121 gatherH3950[H8764] woodH6086, and the fathersH1 kindleH1197[H8764] the fireH784, and the womenH802 kneadH3888[H8802] their doughH1217, to makeH6213[H8800] cakesH3561 to the queenH4446 of heavenH8064, and to pour outH5258[H8687] drink offeringsH5262 unto otherH312 godsH430, that they may provoke me to angerH3707.[H8687] [18]The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women kneed the dough to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me unto anger.
[19]Do they provoke me to angerH3707[H8688]? saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: do they not provoke themselves to the confusionH1322 of their own facesH6440? [19]Do they provoke me to anger, saith the Lord, and not themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
[20]Therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Behold, mine angerH639 and my furyH2534 shall be poured outH5413[H8737] upon this placeH4725, upon manH120, and upon beastH929, and upon the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704, and upon the fruitH6529 of the groundH127; and it shall burnH1197[H8804], and shall not be quenchedH3518.[H8799] [20]Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, mine anger and my wrath shall be poured upon this place, upon man and upon beast, and upon the tree of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground, and it shall burn and not be quenched.
[21]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; PutH5595[H8798] your burnt offeringsH5930 unto your sacrificesH2077, and eatH398[H8798] fleshH1320. [21]Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat the flesh.
[22]For I spakeH1696[H8765] not unto your fathersH1, nor commandedH6680[H8765] them in the dayH3117 that I brought them outH3318[H8687] of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, concerningH1697 burnt offeringsH5930 or sacrificesH2077: [22]For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices.
[23]But this thingH1697 commandedH6680[H8765] I them, sayingH559[H8800], ObeyH8085[H8798] my voiceH6963, and I will be your GodH430, and ye shall be my peopleH5971: and walkH1980[H8804] ye in all the waysH1870 that I have commandedH6680[H8762] you, that it may be wellH3190 unto youH8799. [23]But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways which I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
[24]But they hearkenedH8085[H8804] not, nor inclinedH5186[H8689] their earH241, but walkedH3212[H8799] in the counselsH4156 and in the imaginationH8307 of their evilH7451 heartH3820, and went backwardH268, and not forwardH6440. [24]But they would not obey, nor incline their ear, but went after the counsels and the stubbornness of their wicked heart, and went backward and not forward.
[25]Since the dayH3117 that your fathersH1 came forth outH3318[H8804] of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 unto this dayH3117 I have even sentH7971[H8799] unto you all my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, dailyH3117 rising up earlyH7925[H8687] and sendingH7971 themH8800: [25]Since the day that your fathers came up out of the land of Egypt, unto this day, I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early every day, and sending them.
[26]Yet they hearkenedH8085[H8804] not unto me, nor inclinedH5186[H8689] their earH241, but hardenedH7185[H8686] their neckH6203: they did worseH7489[H8689] than their fathersH1. [26]Yet would they not hear me nor incline their ear, but hardened their neck and did worse than their fathers.
[27]Therefore thou shalt speakH1696[H8765] all these wordsH1697 unto them; but they will not hearkenH8085[H8799] to thee: thou shalt also callH7121[H8804] unto them; but they will not answerH6030 theeH8799. [27]Therefore shalt thou speak all these words unto them, but they will not hear thee: thou shalt also cry unto them, but they will not answer thee.
[28]But thou shalt sayH559[H8804] unto them, This is a nationH1471 that obeyethH8085[H8804] not the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 their GodH430, nor receivethH3947[H8804] correctionH4148: truthH530 is perishedH6[H8804], and is cut offH3772[H8738] from their mouthH6310. [28]But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that heareth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth discipline: truth is perished, and is clean gone out of their mouth.
[29]Cut offH1494[H8798] thine hairH5145, O Jerusalem, and cast it awayH7993[H8685], and take upH5375[H8798] a lamentationH7015 on high placesH8205; for the LORDH3068 hath rejectedH3988[H8804] and forsakenH5203[H8799] the generationH1755 of his wrathH5678. [29]Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a complaint on the high places: for the Lord hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
[30]For the childrenH1121 of JudahH3063 have doneH6213[H8804] evilH7451 in my sightH5869, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: they have setH7760[H8804] their abominationsH8251 in the houseH1004 which is calledH7121[H8738] by my nameH8034, to polluteH2930 itH8763. [30]For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the Lord: they have set their abominations in the house, whereupon my name is called, to pollute it.
[31]And they have builtH1129[H8804] the high placesH1116 of TophetH8612, which is in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, to burnH8313[H8800] their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323 in the fireH784; which I commandedH6680[H8765] them not, neither cameH5927[H8804] it into my heartH3820. [31]And they have built the high place of Topheth, which is in the valley of Ben-Hinnom to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I commanded them not, neither came it in mine heart.
[32]Therefore, behold, the daysH3117 comeH935[H8802], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, that it shall no more be calledH559[H8735] TophetH8612, nor the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, but the valleyH1516 of slaughterH2028: for they shall buryH6912[H8804] in TophetH8612, till there be noH369 placeH4725. [32]Therefore behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth till there be no place.
[33]And the carcasesH5038 of this peopleH5971 shall be meatH3978 for the fowlsH5775 of the heavenH8064, and for the beastsH929 of the earthH776; and none shall fray them awayH2729.[H8688] [33]And the carcasses of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth, and none shall fray them away.
[34]Then will I cause to ceaseH7673[H8689] from the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and from the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, the voiceH6963 of mirthH8342, and the voiceH6963 of gladnessH8057, the voiceH6963 of the bridegroomH2860, and the voiceH6963 of the brideH3618: for the landH776 shall be desolateH2723. [34]Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
