[1]THEN Job answered and said, [1]But Job answered, and said,
[2]Why do you try to help him who is powerless? Why do you try to save the arm that has no strength? [2]Whom helpest thou? Him that hath no power? Savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
[3]How have you counselled him who has no wisdom? And how have you expounded so many doctrines? [3]Whom counselest thou? Him that hath no wisdom? Thou showest right well as the thing is.
[4]To whom have you uttered words? And whose soul has come forth from you [4]To whom dost thou declare these words? Or whose spirit cometh out of thee?
[5]Behold, the mighty men shall be slain, and they shall lie down quieter than still waters. [5]The dead things are formed under the waters, and near unto them.
[6]Sheol is naked before him, and destruction has no covering. [6]The grave is naked before him, and there is no covering for destruction.
[7]He stretches out the north from the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing. [7]He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
[8]He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. [8]He bindeth the waters in his clouds, and the cloud is not broken under them.
[9]He holds fast the covering of the firmament, and spreads his cloud upon it. [9]He holdeth back the face of his throne: and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
[10]He has circled the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. [10]He hath set bounds about the waters, until the day and night come to an end.
[11]The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof. [11]The pillars of heaven tremble and quake at his reproof.
[12]He rebukes the sea with his power, and by his wisdom he saves many. [12]The sea is calm by his power, and by his understanding he smiteth the pride thereof.
[13]By his spirit he manages the heavens; his hand slew the fleeing serpent. [13]His spirit hath garnished the heavens, and his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
[14]Lo, these are merely parts of his ways; and what evil thing have we heard against him? And the greatness of his might who can understand [14]Lo, these are part of his ways: but how little a portion hear we of him? And who can understand his fearful power?
