Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]Elihu spake moreover, and said, [1]AGAIN Elihu spoke, and said,
[2]Thinkest thou this right, that thou hast said, I am more righteous than God? [2]Do you think you were justified in saying, I have been found blameless by God?
[3]For thou hast said, What profiteth it thee and what availeth it me, to purge me from my sin? [3]If you have said it, what advantage will it be to you? And what should I gain if I should condemn you?
[4]Therefore will I answer thee, and thy companions with thee. [4]I will answer you with words, you and your friends with you.
[5]Look unto the heaven, and see and behold the clouds which are higher than thou. [5]Look to the heavens, and observe the clouds which are higher than you.
[6]If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him, yea, when thy sins be many, what doest thou unto him? [6]If you sin, what difference does it make to him? And if your iniquities be multiplied, what does it matter to him?
[7]If thou be righteous, what givest thou unto him? Or what receiveth he at thine hand? [7]If you are righteous, what do you give to him? Or what does he receive from your hand?
[8]Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art: and thy righteousness may profit the son of man. [8]Your wickedness is to yourself; and your righteousness is to yourself
[9]They cause many that are oppressed, to cry, which cry out for the violence of the mighty. [9]Because of the multitude of oppressions men howl; and many cry out because of iniquity.
[10]But none saith, Where is God that made me, which giveth songs in the night? [10]And none says, Where is God my Maker, who gives counsel in the night,
[11]Which teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and giveth us more wisdom than the fowls of the heaven. [11]Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of the air?
[12]Then they cry because of the violence of the wicked, but he answereth not. [12]They cry, but he does not answer them,
[13]Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it. [13]Because God does not hear the empty pride of evildoers, nor does he praise it
[14]Although thou sayest to God, Thou wilt not regard it, yet judgment is before him: trust thou in him. [14]Although you have said, I will not praise him, plead before him and supplicate before him.
[15]But now because his anger hath not visited, nor called to count the evil with great extremity, [15]For now he does not punish with his anger; and he does not harm any soul.
[16]Therefore Job openeth his mouth in vain, and multiplieth words without knowledge. [16]Therefore Job has spoken in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge
