| [1]ܗܵܐ ܙܲܒ̣ܢܵܐ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܠܐ̄ܢܵܫܵܐ ܥܲܠ ܐܲܪܥܵܐ. ܘܐܲܝܟ݂ ܝܵܘ̈ܡܵܝ ܐܲܓ̣ܝܼܪܵܐ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܝܵܘ̈ܡܵܘܗܝ. |
[1]Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? And are not his days as the days of an hireling? |
| [2]ܘܐܲܝܟ݂ ܥܲܒ̣ܕܵܐ ܕܲܡܣܲܟܹ̇ܐ ܠܛܸܠܵܠܵܐ: ܘܐܲܝܟ݂ ܐܲܓ̣ܝܼܪܵܐ ܕܲܡܣܲܟܹ̇ܐ ܠܲܡܫܲܠܵܡܘܼ ܦܵܥ̇ܠܹܗ. |
[2]As a servant longeth for the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the end of his work, |
| [3]ܗܵܟܲܢܵܐ ܝܸܪܬܹ̇ܬ̣ ܠܝܼ ܝܲܪ̈ܚܹܐ ܣܪ̈ܝܼܩܹܐ. ܘܿܠܲܝ̈ܠܵܘܵܬ̣ܵܐ ܕܥܲܡܠܵܐ ܠܵܐ ܐܸܬ̣ܡ̱ܢܝܼܘ ܠܝܼ. |
[3]So have I had as an inheritance the months of vanity, and painful nights have been appointed unto me. |
| [4]ܘܐܸܢ ܫܸܟ݂ܒܹ̇ܬ̣ ܘܐܸܡ̇ܪܹܬ̣ ܐܸܡܲܬ̣ܝ ܐܹܩܘܼܡ. ܘܡܵܫܲܚ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ ܠܪܲܡܫܵܐ: ܘܫܵܟܹ̇ܒ̣ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ. ܘܢܵܐܹ̇ܕ݂ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ ܠܫܲܦܪܵܐ. |
[4]If I laid me down, I said, When shall I arise? And measuring the evening I am even full with tossing to and fro unto the dawning of the day. |
| [5]ܠ̣ܒܸܫ ܒܸܣܪܝ ܪܸܡܬ̣ܵܐ: ܘܓ̣ܘܼܫܡ̄ܝ ܥܲܦܪܵܐ. ܡܸܫܟ̇ܝ ܩܦܘܿܕ݂ ܘܐܸܬ̣̱ܡܣܝܼ. |
[5]My flesh is clothed with worms and filthiness of the dust: my skin is rent, and become horrible. |
| [6]ܝܵܘ̈ܡܵܝ ܩܲܠ̣ܘ ܡ̣ܢ ܓܕ݂ܵܕ݂ ܩܘܝܼܢ. ܘܣܵܦ̣ܘ ܒܲܕ݂ܠܲܝܬ̇ ܣܲܒ̣ܪܵܐ. |
[6]My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and they are spent without hope. |
| [7]ܐܸܬ̇ܕܲܟ݂ܪ ܕܪܘܼܚܵܐ ܚܲܝܵܐܗ̣̄ܝ. ܘܬܸܗܦܘܿܟ݂ ܥܲܝܢ̄ܝ ܠܡܸܚܙܵܐ ܛܵܒ̣ܬ̣ܵܐ. |
[7]Remember that my life is but a wind, and that mine eye shall not return to see pleasure. |
| [8]ܠܵܐ ܬܸܚܙܹܐ ܠܝܼ ܥܲܝܢܵܐ ܕܚܵܙ̇ܝܵܐ ܠܝܼ. ܘܥܲܝܢܲܝ̈ܟ ܒܝܼ: ܘܠܲܝܬܲܝ. |
[8]The eye that hath seen me, shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I shall be no longer. |
| [9]ܐܲܝܟ݂ ܕܣܵܝ̇ܦܵܐ ܥܢܵܢܵܐ: ܘܐܵܙܵܠ̄ܐ. ܗܵܟܲܢܐ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܢܵܚܹ̇ܬ̣ ܠܲܫܝܘܿܠ: ܠܵܐ ܣܵܠܹ̇ܩ. |
[9]As the cloud vanisheth and goeth away, so he that goeth down to the grave, shall come up no more. |
| [10]ܘܠܵܐ ܗܵܦܹ̇ܟ݂ ܬܘܼܒ̣ ܠܒܲܝܬܹ̇ܗ. ܘܠܵܐ ܡܸܫܬܵܘܕܲܥ ܬܘܼܒ̣ ܠܐܲܬ̣ܪܹܗ. |
[10]He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. |
| [11]ܐܵܦ ܐܸܢܵܐ ܠܵܐ ܐܸܚܣܘܿܟ݂ ܦܘܼܡܝ. ܐܹܡܲܠܸܠ ܒܥܵܩܲܬ̣ ܪܘܝܼܚ. ܘܐܹܬܲܢܸܐ ܒܲܡܪܵܪܹ̈ܐ ܕܢܲܦ̮ܫܝ. |
[11]Therefore I will not spare my mouth, but will speak in the trouble of my spirit, and muse in the bitterness of my mind. |
| [12]ܝܲܡܵܐ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ: ܐܵܘ ܬܲܢܝܼܢܵܐ: ܕܲܡܩܝܼܡ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ̇ ܥܠܲܝ ܢܵܛܘܿܪܹ̈ܐ. |
[12]Am I a sea or a whale fish, that thou keepest me in ward? |
| [13]ܡܸܛܠ ܕܐܸܡ̇ܪܹܬ̣ ܕܲܬ̣ܒܲܝܐܲܢܝ. ܘܐܸܬ̣ܠܲܒܲܒ̣ ܡ̣ܢ ܛܘܼܪܵܦܵܐ ܕܡܲܫܟܲܒ̣ܝ. |
[13]When I say, My couch shall relieve me , and my bed shall bring comfort in my meditation, |
| [14]ܘܗܵܐ ܐܲܙܝܼܥ̣ܬܵܢܝ ܒܚ̣ܠܡ̈ܝܼܢ. ܘܲܒ̣ܚ̣ܙ̈ܘܵܢܝܼܢ ܐܲܒ̣ܥ̣ܬ̇ܬܵܢܝ. |
[14]Then fearest thou me with dreams, and astonishest me with visions. |
| [15]ܘܲܒ̣ܚܲܪܬ̇ ܢܲܦ̮ܫܝ ܡ̣ܢ ܐܲܒ̣ܕܵܢܵܐ: ܘܓܲܪ̈ܡܲܝ ܡ̣ܢ ܡܵܘܬܵܐ. |
[15]Therefore my soul chooseth rather to be strangled and to die, than to be in my bones. |
| [16]ܩܸܛܥܲܬ̤ ܠܝܼ: ܘܠܵܐ ܗ̄ܘܼܵܐ ܠܥܵܠܲܡ ܚܲܝ ܐ̄ܢܵܐ. ܦܪܘܿܩ ܡܹܢܝ: ܡܸܛܠ ܕܗܸܒ̣ܠܵܐ ܐܸܢܘܿܢ ܝܵܘ̈ܡܲܝ. |
[16]I abhor it, I shall not live alway: spare me then, for my days are but vanity. |
| [17]ܡܵܢܵܘ ܐ̄ܢܵܫܵܐ ܕܬܲܘܒ̇ܕ݂ܝܼܘܗܝ. ܘܲܬ̣ܣܝܼܡ ܥܠܵܘܗܝ ܠܸܒܵܟ݂. |
[17]What is man, that thou dost magnify him, and that thou settest thine heart upon him? |
| [18]ܘܬܸܦܩܘܿܕ݂ ܒܨܲܦܪܵܐ. ܘܲܒ̣ܙܲܒ̣ܢܵܐ ܬܸܒ̣ܚ̄ܪܝܼܘܗܝ. |
[18]And dost visit him every morning, and tryest him every moment? |
| [19]ܘܲܥܕܲܡܵܐ ܗ̄ܘܼ ܠܐܸܡܲܬ̣ܝ ܠܵܐ ܫܵܒܹܿܝܩ ܐܲܢ̄ܬ̇ ܠܝܼ. ܠܵܐ ܬܲܪܦܹܝܢܝ ܥܕܲܡܵܐ ܕܐܸܒ̣ܠܲܥ ܪܘܼܩܝ. |
[19]How long will it be ere thou depart from me? Thou wilt not let me alone whiles I may swallow my spittle. |
| [20]ܐܸܢ ܚܛܹ̇ܝܬ̣: ܡܵܢܵܐ ܐܸܥܒܸ̇ܕ ܠܵܟ݂ ܥܵܒ̣̇ܘܿܕܹܗ ܕܐ̄ܢܵܫܵܐ. ܠܡܵܢܵܐ ܣܵܡ̣ܬܵܢܝ: ܕܐܸܦܓܲܥ ܒܵܟ݂. ܘܲܗ̤ܘܲܝܬ̇ ܥܠܲܝ ܛܲܥܢܵܐ. |
[20]I have sinned, what shall I do unto thee? O thou preserver of men, why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden unto myself? |
| [21]ܘܥܲܕ݂ ܟܡܵܐ ܠܵܐ ܬܸܫܒ̇ܘܿܩ ܠܚܵܘ̈ܒܲܝ: ܘܬܲܥܒܲܪ ܚܛܵܗܲܝ̈. ܕܗܵܫܵܐ ܥܲܠ ܥܲܦܪܵܐ ܐܸܫܟܲܒ̣. ܘܬܸܒ̣ܥܹܝܢܝ ܘܠܲܝܬ̇ ܐܸܢܵܐ. |
[21]And why dost thou not pardon my trespass? And take away mine iniquity? For now shall I sleep in the dust, and if thou seekest me in the morning, I shall not be found. |
