[1]The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 that came to JoelH3100 the sonH1121 of PethuelH6602. [1]The word of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
[2]HearH8085[H8798] this, ye old menH2205, and give earH238[H8685], all ye inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the landH776. Hath this been in your daysH3117, or evenH518 in the daysH3117 of your fathersH1? [2]Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
[3]TellH5608[H8761] ye your childrenH1121 of it, and let your childrenH1121 tell their childrenH1121, and their childrenH1121 anotherH312 generationH1755. [3]Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
[4]That which the palmerwormH1501 hath leftH3499 hath the locustH697 eatenH398[H8804]; and that which the locustH697 hath leftH3499 hath the cankerwormH3218 eatenH398[H8804]; and that which the cankerwormH3218 hath leftH3499 hath the caterpillerH2625 eatenH398.[H8804] [4]That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
[5]AwakeH6974[H8685], ye drunkardsH7910, and weepH1058[H8798]; and howlH3213[H8685], all ye drinkersH8354[H8802] of wineH3196, because of the new wineH6071; for it is cut offH3772[H8738] from your mouthH6310. [5]Awake drunkards, and weep, and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
[6]For a nationH1471 is come upH5927[H8804] upon my landH776, strongH6099, and without numberH4557, whose teethH8127 are the teethH8127 of a lionH738, and he hath the cheek teethH4973 of a great lionH3833. [6]For a people is come up upon my land, mighty, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.
[7]He hath laidH7760[H8804] my vineH1612 wasteH8047, and barkedH7111 my fig treeH8384: he hath made it cleanH2834[H8800] bareH2834[H8804], and cast it awayH7993[H8689]; the branchesH8299 thereof are made whiteH3835.[H8689] [7]He hath laid my vine waste, and blasted my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it down, the branches thereof are made white.
[8]LamentH421[H8798] like a virginH1330 girdedH2296[H8803] with sackclothH8242 for the husbandH1167 of her youthH5271. [8]Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
[9]The meat offeringH4503 and the drink offeringH5262 is cut offH3772[H8717] from the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068; the priestsH3548, the LORD'SH3068 ministersH8334[H8764], mournH56.[H8804] [9]The meal-offering and the drink-offering is cut off from the house of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎; the priests mourn, even ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎'S ministers.
[10]The fieldH7704 is wastedH7703[H8795], the landH127 mournethH56[H8804]; for the cornH1715 is wastedH7703[H8795]: the new wineH8492 is dried upH3001[H8689], the oilH3323 languishethH535.[H8797] [10]The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
[11]Be ye ashamedH3001[H8685], O ye husbandmenH406; howlH3213[H8685], O ye vinedressersH3755, for the wheatH2406 and for the barleyH8184; because the harvestH7105 of the fieldH7704 is perishedH6.[H8804] [11]Be ashamed, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
[12]The vineH1612 is dried upH3001[H8689], and the fig treeH8384 languishethH535[H8797]; the pomegranateH7416 tree, the palm treeH8558 also, and the apple treeH8598, even all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704, are witheredH3001[H8804]: because joyH8342 is withered awayH3001[H8689] from the sonsH1121 of menH120. [12]The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered; for joy is withered away from the sons of men.
[13]GirdH2296[H8798] yourselves, and lamentH5594[H8798], ye priestsH3548: howlH3213[H8685], ye ministersH8334[H8764] of the altarH4196: comeH935[H8798], lie all nightH3885[H8798] in sackclothH8242, ye ministersH8334[H8764] of my GodH430: for the meat offeringH4503 and the drink offeringH5262 is withholdenH4513[H8738] from the houseH1004 of your GodH430. [13]Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests, wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God; f meal-offering and the drink-offering is withholden from the house of your God.
[14]SanctifyH6942[H8761] ye a fastH6685, callH7121[H8798] a solemn assemblyH6116, gatherH622[H8798] the eldersH2205 and all the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the landH776 into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and cryH2199[H8798] unto the LORDH3068, [14]Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ your God, and cry unto ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎.
[15]AlasH162 for the dayH3117! for the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 is at handH7138, and as a destructionH7701 from the AlmightyH7706 shall it comeH935.[H8799] [15]Alas for the day! for the day of ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
[16]Is not the meatH400 cut offH3772[H8738] before our eyesH5869, yea, joyH8057 and gladnessH1524 from the houseH1004 of our GodH430? [16]Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy an gladness from the house of our God?
[17]The seedH6507 is rottenH5685[H8804] under their clodsH4053, the garnersH214 are laid desolateH8074[H8738], the barnsH4460 are broken downH2040[H8738]; for the cornH1715 is witheredH3001.[H8689] [17]The grains shrivel under their hoes; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
[18]How do the beastsH929 groanH584[H8737]! the herdsH5739 of cattleH1241 are perplexedH943[H8738], because they have no pastureH4829; yea, the flocksH5739 of sheepH6629 are made desolateH816.[H8738] [18]How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
[19]O LORDH3068, to thee will I cryH7121[H8799]: for the fireH784 hath devouredH398[H8804] the pasturesH4999 of the wildernessH4057, and the flameH3852 hath burnedH3857[H8765] all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704. [19]Unto Thee, O ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
[20]The beastsH929 of the fieldH7704 cryH6165[H8799] also unto thee: for the riversH650 of watersH4325 are dried upH3001[H8804], and the fireH784 hath devouredH398[H8804] the pasturesH4999 of the wildernessH4057. [20]Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto Thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
