John
Joh
1
[1]In the beginning, was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God. [No book]
[2]He was in the beginning with God. [No book]
[3]Every thing was by his hand; and without him, was not any thing whatever that existed. [No book]
[4]In him was life ; and the life was the light of man. [No book]
[5]And this light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. [No book]
[6]There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. [No book]
[7]He came for testimony, to bear witness concerning the light. [No book]
[8]He was not himself the light, but [came] to bear witness concerning the light. [No book]
[9]The true light was that, which enlighteneth every man who cometh into the world. [No book]
[10]He was in the world; and the world was by his hand; and the world did not know him. [No book]
[11]He came to his own [people]; and his own [people] received him not. [No book]
[12]But such as received him, to them gave he the prerogative to be children of God; [even] to them that believe on his name; [No book]
[13]who are born, not of blood, nor of the pleasure of the flesh, nor of the pleasure of man, but of God. [No book]
[14]And the: Word became flesh, and tabernacled with us: and we saw his glory, a glory as of the only begotten from the Father, that he was full of grace and truth. [No book]
[15]John testified of him, and cried, and said: This is he, of whom I said, That he cometh after me, and is before me; for he was prior to me. [No book]
[16]And of his plenitude have we all received, and grace for grace. [No book]
[17]For the law was given by the hand of Moses; but the reality and grace was by the hand of Jesus Messiah. [No book]
[18]No man hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, he who is in the bosom of his Father, he hath declared [him]. [No book]
[19]And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews of Jerusalem sent to him priests and Levites, to ask him, Who art thou? [No book]
[20]And he confessed, and denied not, but confessed I am not the Messiah. [No book]
[21]And they asked him again: Who then? Art thou Elijah? And he said: I am not. Art thou a prophet? And he said, No. [No book]
[22]And they said to him: Who art thou? that we may give answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? [No book]
[23]He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make smooth the way of the Lord; as said the prophet Isaiah. [No book]
[24]And they who were sent, were of the Pharisees. [No book]
[25]And they asked him, and said to him: Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor a prophet? [No book]
[26]John answered, and said to them; I baptize with water; but among you standeth one, whom ye do not know. [No book]
[27]He it is that cometh after me, and was before me, whose shoe-strings I am not worthy to untie. [No book]
[28]These things occurred in Bethany, where John was baptizing. [No book]
[29]The day after, John saw Jesus coming towards him, and said: Behold, the Lamb of God, that beareth the sin of the world. [No book]
[30]This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who is before me, for he was prior to me. [No book]
[31]And I knew him not; but that he might be known to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. [No book]
[32]And John testified, and said: I saw the Spirit descend from heaven, as a dove, and rest upon him. [No book]
[33]And I did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water, he said to me- On whom thou seest the Spirit descend, and rest upon him, he baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. [No book]
[34]And I saw; and I testify, that this is the Son of God. [No book]
[35]And the next day, John was standing, and two of his disciples. [No book]
[36]And he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and said: Behold, the Lamb of God ! [No book]
[37]And his two disciples heard him when he said [it], and they went after Jesus. [No book]
[38]And Jesus turned, and saw them coming after him, and he said to them: What seek ye? They said to him: Our Rabbi, where stayest thou? [No book]
[39]He said to them: Come, and see. And they came and saw where he lodged; and they were with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. [No book]
[40]And one of those who heard John and went after Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon. [No book]
[41]He first saw Simon his brother, and said to him: We have found the Messiah. [No book]
[42]And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looked upon him, and said Thou art Simon the son of Jona; thou shalt be called Cephas. [No book]
[43]The next day, Jesus was disposed to depart for Galilee: and he found Philip and said to him, Come after me. [No book]
[44]And Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Simon. [No book]
[45]And Philip found Nathaniel, and said to him: We have found him, of whom Moses wrote in the law, and the prophets, Jesus the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth. [No book]
[46]Nathaniel said to him: Can there be any good thing from Nazareth? Philip said to him: Come, and see. [No book]
[47]And Jesus saw Nathaniel coming towards him, and said of him: Behold a real Israelite, in whom is no deceit. [No book]
[48]Nathaniel said to him: Whence knowest thou me? Jesus said to him: Before Philip called thee when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee. [No book]
[49]Nathaniel answered, and said to him: Rabbi; thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. [No book]
[50]Jesus said to him: Because I said to thee, that I saw thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? Thou wilt see greater things than these. [No book]
[51]He said to him: Verily, verily, I say to you, That hereafter ye will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending unto the Son of man. [No book]
