| [1]ην δε τις ασθενων λαζαρος απο βηθανιας εκ της κωμης μαριας και μαρθας της αδελφης αυτης |
[1]and alle thingis what euer Joon seide of this, weren sothe. And many bileueden in hym. |
| [2]ην δε μαριαμ η αλειψασα τον κυριον μυρω και εκμαξασα τους ποδας αυτου ταις θριξιν αυτης ης ο αδελφος λαζαρος ησθενει |
[2]And ther was a sijk man, Lazarus of Bethanye, of the castel of Marie and Martha, hise sistris. |
| [3]απεστειλαν ουν αι αδελφαι προς αυτον λεγουσαι κυριε ιδε ον φιλεις ασθενει |
[3]And it was Marye, which anoyntide the Lord with oynement, and wipte hise feet with hir heeris, whos brother Lazarus was sijk. |
| [4]ακουσας δε ο ιησους ειπεν αυτη η ασθενεια ουκ εστιν προς θανατον αλλ υπερ της δοξης του θεου ινα δοξασθη ο υιος του θεου δι αυτης |
[4]Therfor hise sistris senten to hym, and seide, Lord, lo! he whom thou louest, is sijk. |
| [5]ηγαπα δε ο ιησους την μαρθαν και την αδελφην αυτης και τον λαζαρον |
[5]And Jhesus herde, and seide to hem, This syknesse is not to the deth, but for the glorie of God, that mannus sone be glorified bi hym. |
| [6]ως ουν ηκουσεν οτι ασθενει τοτε μεν εμεινεν εν ω ην τοπω δυο ημερας |
[6]And Jhesus louyde Martha, and hir sistir Marie, and Lazarus. |
| [7]επειτα μετα τουτο λεγει τοις μαθηταις αγωμεν εις την ιουδαιαν παλιν |
[7]Therfor whanne Jhesus herde, that he was sijk, thanne he dwellide in the same place twei daies. |
| [8]λεγουσιν αυτω οι μαθηται ραββι νυν εζητουν σε λιθασαι οι ιουδαιοι και παλιν υπαγεις εκει |
[8]And after these thingis he seide to hise disciplis, Go we eft in to Judee. |
| [9]απεκριθη ιησους ουχι δωδεκα ωραι εισιν της ημερας εαν τις περιπατη εν τη ημερα ου προσκοπτει οτι το φως του κοσμου τουτου βλεπει |
[9]The disciplis seien to hym, Maister, now the Jewis souyten for to stoone thee, and eft goist thou thidir? |
| [10]εαν δε τις περιπατη εν τη νυκτι προσκοπτει οτι το φως ουκ εστιν εν αυτω |
[10]Jhesus answerde, Whether ther ben not twelue ouris of the dai? If ony man wandre in the dai, he hirtith not, for he seeth the liyt of this world. |
| [11]ταυτα ειπεν και μετα τουτο λεγει αυτοις λαζαρος ο φιλος ημων κεκοιμηται αλλα πορευομαι ινα εξυπνισω αυτον |
[11]But if he wandre in the niyt, he stomblith, for liyt is not in him. |
| [12]ειπαν ουν οι μαθηται αυτω κυριε ει κεκοιμηται σωθησεται |
[12]He seith these thingis, and aftir these thingis he seith to hem, Lazarus, oure freend, slepith, but Y go to reise hym fro sleep. |
| [13]ειρηκει δε ο ιησους περι του θανατου αυτου εκεινοι δε εδοξαν οτι περι της κοιμησεως του υπνου λεγει |
[13]Therfor hise disciplis seiden, Lord, if he slepith, he schal be saaf. |
| [14]τοτε ουν ειπεν αυτοις ο ιησους παρρησια λαζαρος απεθανεν |
[14]But Jhesus hadde seid of his deth; but thei gessiden, that he seide of slepyng of sleep. |
| [15]και χαιρω δι υμας ινα πιστευσητε οτι ουκ ημην εκει αλλα αγωμεν προς αυτον |
[15]Thanne therfor Jhesus seide to hem opynli, Lazarus is deed; |
| [16]ειπεν ουν θωμας ο λεγομενος διδυμος τοις συμμαθηταις αγωμεν και ημεις ινα αποθανωμεν μετ αυτου |
[16]and Y haue ioye for you, that ye bileue, for Y was not there; but go we to hym. |
| [17]ελθων ουν ο ιησους ευρεν αυτον τεσσαρας ηδη ημερας εχοντα εν τω μνημειω |
[17]Therfor Thomas, that is seid Didymus, seide to euen disciplis, Go we also, that we dien with hym. |
| [18]ην δε η βηθανια εγγυς των ιεροσολυμων ως απο σταδιων δεκαπεντε |
[18]And so Jhesus cam, and foond hym hauynge thanne foure daies in the graue. |
| [19]πολλοι δε εκ των ιουδαιων εληλυθεισαν προς την μαρθαν και μαριαμ ινα παραμυθησωνται αυτας περι του αδελφου |
[19]And Bethany was bisidis Jerusalem, as it were fiftene furlongis. |
| [20]η ουν μαρθα ως ηκουσεν οτι ιησους ερχεται υπηντησεν αυτω μαριαμ δε εν τω οικω εκαθεζετο |
[20]And many of the Jewis camen to Mary and Martha, to coumforte hem of her brothir. |
| [21]ειπεν ουν η μαρθα προς τον ιησουν κυριε ει ης ωδε ουκ αν απεθανεν ο αδελφος μου |
[21]Therfor as Martha herde, that Jhesu cam, sche ran to hym; but Mary sat at home. |
| [22][αλλα] και νυν οιδα οτι οσα αν αιτηση τον θεον δωσει σοι ο θεος |
[22]Therfor Martha seide to Jhesu, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed. |
| [23]λεγει αυτη ο ιησους αναστησεται ο αδελφος σου |
[23]But now Y woot, that what euere thingis thou schalt axe of God, God schal yyue to thee. |
| [24]λεγει αυτω η μαρθα οιδα οτι αναστησεται εν τη αναστασει εν τη εσχατη ημερα |
[24]Jhesus seith to hir, Thi brother schal rise ayen. |
| [25]ειπεν αυτη ο ιησους εγω ειμι η αναστασις και η ζωη ο πιστευων εις εμε καν αποθανη ζησεται |
[25]Martha seith to hym, Y woot, that he schal rise ayen in the ayen risyng in the laste dai. |
| [26]και πας ο ζων και πιστευων εις εμε ου μη αποθανη εις τον αιωνα πιστευεις τουτο |
[26]Jhesus seith to hir, Y am ayen risyng and lijf; he that bileueth in me, yhe, thouy he be deed, |
| [27]λεγει αυτω ναι κυριε εγω πεπιστευκα οτι συ ει ο χριστος ο υιος του θεου ο εις τον κοσμον ερχομενος |
[27]he schal lyue; and ech that lyueth, and bileueth in me, schal not die with outen ende. Bileuest thou this thing? |
| [28]και τουτο ειπουσα απηλθεν και εφωνησεν μαριαμ την αδελφην αυτης λαθρα ειπουσα ο διδασκαλος παρεστιν και φωνει σε |
[28]Sche seith to hym, Yhe, Lord, Y haue bileued, that thou art Crist, the sone of the lyuynge God, that hast come in to this world. |
| [29]εκεινη δε ως ηκουσεν ηγερθη ταχυ και ηρχετο προς αυτον |
[29]And whanne sche hadde seid this thing, sche wente, and clepide Marie, hir sistir, in silence, and seide, The maister cometh, and clepith thee. |
| [30]ουπω δε εληλυθει ο ιησους εις την κωμην αλλ ην ετι εν τω τοπω οπου υπηντησεν αυτω η μαρθα |
[30]Sche, as sche herd, aroos anoon, and cam to hym. |
| [31]οι ουν ιουδαιοι οι οντες μετ αυτης εν τη οικια και παραμυθουμενοι αυτην ιδοντες την μαριαμ οτι ταχεως ανεστη και εξηλθεν ηκολουθησαν αυτη δοξαντες οτι υπαγει εις το μνημειον ινα κλαυση εκει |
[31]And Jhesus cam not yit `in to the castel, but he was yit in that place, where Martha hadde comun ayens hym. |
| [32]η ουν μαριαμ ως ηλθεν οπου ην ιησους ιδουσα αυτον επεσεν αυτου προς τους ποδας λεγουσα αυτω κυριε ει ης ωδε ουκ αν μου απεθανεν ο αδελφος |
[32]Therfor the Jewis that weren with hir in the hous, and coumfortiden hir, whanne thei sayn Marie, that sche roos swithe, and wente out, thei sueden hir, and seiden, For sche goith to the graue, to wepe there. |
| [33]ιησους ουν ως ειδεν αυτην κλαιουσαν και τους συνελθοντας αυτη ιουδαιους κλαιοντας ενεβριμησατο τω πνευματι και εταραξεν εαυτον |
[33]But whanne Marie was comun where Jhesus was, sche seynge hym felde doun to his feet, and seide to hym, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed. |
| [34]και ειπεν που τεθεικατε αυτον λεγουσιν αυτω κυριε ερχου και ιδε |
[34]And therfor whanne Jhesu saiy hir wepyng, and the Jewis wepynge that weren with hir, he `made noise in spirit, and troblide hym silf, |
| [35]εδακρυσεν ο ιησους |
[35]and seide, Where han ye leid hym? Thei seien to hym, Lord, come, and se. |
| [36]ελεγον ουν οι ιουδαιοι ιδε πως εφιλει αυτον |
[36]And Jhesus wepte. Therfor the Jewis seiden, |
| [37]τινες δε εξ αυτων ειπαν ουκ εδυνατο ουτος ο ανοιξας τους οφθαλμους του τυφλου ποιησαι ινα και ουτος μη αποθανη |
[37]Lo! hou he louede hym. |
| [38]ιησους ουν παλιν εμβριμωμενος εν εαυτω ερχεται εις το μνημειον ην δε σπηλαιον και λιθος επεκειτο επ αυτω |
[38]And summe of hem seiden, Whethir this man that openyde the iyen of the borun blynde man, myyte not make that this schulde not die? |
| [39]λεγει ο ιησους αρατε τον λιθον λεγει αυτω η αδελφη του τετελευτηκοτος μαρθα κυριε ηδη οζει τεταρταιος γαρ εστιν |
[39]Therfor Jhesus eft makynge noise in hym silf, cam to the graue. And there was a denne, and a stoon was leid theronne. |
| [40]λεγει αυτη ο ιησους ουκ ειπον σοι οτι εαν πιστευσης οψη την δοξαν του θεου |
[40]And Jhesus seith, Take ye awey the stoon. Martha, the sistir of hym that was deed, seith to hym, Lord, he stynkith now, for he hath leye foure daies. |
| [41]ηραν ουν τον λιθον ο δε ιησους ηρεν τους οφθαλμους ανω και ειπεν πατερ ευχαριστω σοι οτι ηκουσας μου |
[41]Jhesus seith to hir, Haue Y not seid to thee, that if thou bileuest, thou schalt se the glorie of God? |
| [42]εγω δε ηδειν οτι παντοτε μου ακουεις αλλα δια τον οχλον τον περιεστωτα ειπον ινα πιστευσωσιν οτι συ με απεστειλας |
[42]Therfor thei token awei the stoon. And Jhesus lifte vp hise iyen, and seide, Fadir, Y do thankyngis to thee, for thou hast herd me; and Y wiste, |
| [43]και ταυτα ειπων φωνη μεγαλη εκραυγασεν λαζαρε δευρο εξω |
[43]that thou euermore herist me, but for the puple that stondith aboute, Y seide, that thei bileue, that thou hast sent me. |
| [44]εξηλθεν ο τεθνηκως δεδεμενος τους ποδας και τας χειρας κειριαις και η οψις αυτου σουδαριω περιεδεδετο λεγει [ο] ιησους αυτοις αυτοις ο ιησους λυσατε αυτον και αφετε αυτον υπαγειν |
[44]Whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he criede with a greet vois, Lazarus, come thou forth. |
| [45]πολλοι ουν εκ των ιουδαιων οι ελθοντες προς την μαριαμ και θεασαμενοι ο α εποιησεν επιστευσαν εις αυτον |
[45]And anoon he that was deed, cam out, boundun the hondis and feet with boondis, and his face boundun with a sudarie. And Jhesus seith to hem, Vnbynde ye hym, and suffre ye hym to go forth. |
| [46]τινες δε εξ αυτων απηλθον προς τους φαρισαιους και ειπαν αυτοις α εποιησεν ιησους |
[46]Therfor many of the Jewis that camen to Marie and Martha, and seyn what thingis Jhesus dide, bileueden in hym. |
| [47]συνηγαγον ουν οι αρχιερεις και οι φαρισαιοι συνεδριον και ελεγον τι ποιουμεν οτι ουτος ο ανθρωπος πολλα ποιει σημεια |
[47]But summe of hem wente to the Farisees, and seiden to hem, what thingis Jhesus `hadde don. |
| [48]εαν αφωμεν αυτον ουτως παντες πιστευσουσιν εις αυτον και ελευσονται οι ρωμαιοι και αρουσιν ημων και τον τοπον και το εθνος |
[48]Therfor the bischopis and the Farisees gadriden a counsel ayens Jhesu, and seiden, What do we? for this man doith many myraclis. |
| [49]εις δε τις εξ αυτων καιαφας αρχιερευς ων του ενιαυτου εκεινου ειπεν αυτοις υμεις ουκ οιδατε ουδεν |
[49]If we leeue hym thus, alle men schulen bileue in hym; and Romayns schulen come, and schulen take our place and oure folk. |
| [50]ουδε λογιζεσθε οτι συμφερει υμιν ινα εις ανθρωπος αποθανη υπερ του λαου και μη ολον το εθνος αποληται |
[50]But oon of hem, Cayfas bi name, whanne he was bischop of that yeer, seide to hem, |
| [51]τουτο δε αφ εαυτου ουκ ειπεν αλλα αρχιερευς ων του ενιαυτου εκεινου επροφητευσεν οτι εμελλεν ιησους αποθνησκειν υπερ του εθνους |
[51]Ye witen nothing, ne thenken, that it spedith to you, that o man die for the puple, and that al the folc perische not. |
| [52]και ουχ υπερ του εθνους μονον αλλ ινα και τα τεκνα του θεου τα διεσκορπισμενα συναγαγη εις εν |
[52]But he seide not this thing of hym silf, but whanne he was bischop of that yeer, he prophesiede, that Jhesu was to die for the folc, |
| [53]απ εκεινης ουν της ημερας εβουλευσαντο ινα αποκτεινωσιν αυτον |
[53]and not oneli for the folc, but that he schulde gadere in to oon the sones of God that weren scaterid. |
| [54]ο ουν ιησους ουκετι παρρησια περιεπατει εν τοις ιουδαιοις αλλα απηλθεν εκειθεν εις την χωραν εγγυς της ερημου εις εφραιμ λεγομενην πολιν κακει-C εμεινεν μετα των μαθητων |
[54]Therfor fro that day thei souyten for to sle hym. |
| [55]ην δε εγγυς το πασχα των ιουδαιων και ανεβησαν πολλοι εις ιεροσολυμα εκ της χωρας προ του πασχα ινα αγνισωσιν εαυτους |
[55]Therfor Jhesus walkide not thanne opynli among the Jewis; but he wente in to a cuntre bisidis desert, in to a citee, that is seid Effren, and there he dwellide with hise disciplis. |
| [56]εζητουν ουν τον ιησουν και ελεγον μετ αλληλων εν τω ιερω εστηκοτες τι δοκει υμιν οτι ου μη ελθη εις την εορτην |
[56]And the pask of the Jewis was niy, and many of the cuntrey wenten vp to Jerusalem bifor the pask, to halewe hem silf. |
| [57]δεδωκεισαν δε οι αρχιερεις και οι φαρισαιοι εντολας ινα εαν τις γνω που εστιν μηνυση οπως πιασωσιν αυτον |
[57]Therfor thei souyten Jhesu, and spaken togidere, stondynge in the temple, What gessen ye, for he cometh not to the feeste day? For the bischopis and Farisees hadden youun a maundement, that if ony man knowe where he is, that he schewe, that thei take hym. |
