Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
King James Version
KJV
[1]I HAVE spoken these things to you, so that you may not stumble. [1]These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
[2]For they will put you out of their synagogues; and the hour will come that whoever kills you, will think that he has offered an offering to God. [2]They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
[3]And these things they will do, because they have not known my Father, nor me. [3]And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
[4]I have spoken these things to you, that when their time does come, you may remember them, and that I told you. And these things I did not tell you before, because I was with you. [4]But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
[5]But now I am going to him who sent me, and yet no one of you asks me, Where are you going? [5]But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
[6]But because I told you these things, sorrow has come and filled your hearts. [6]But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
[7]But I tell you the truth, It is better for you that I should go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I should go, I will send him to you. [7]Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
[8]And when he is come, he will rebuke the world concerning sin, concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment. [8]And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[9]Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; [9]Of sin, because they believe not on me;
[10]Concerning righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will not see me again; [10]Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
[11]Concerning judgment, because the leader of this world has been judged. [11]Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
[12]Again, I have many other things to tell you, but you cannot grasp them now. [12]I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
[13]But when the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak from himself, but what he hears that he will speak; and he will make known to you things which are to come in the future. [13]Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
[14]He will glorify me; because he will take of my own and show to you. [14]He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
[15]Everything that my Father has is mine; this is the reason why I told you that he will take of my own and show to you. [15]All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
[16]A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me, because I am going to the Father. [16]A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
[17]Then his disciples said to one another, What is this that he said to us, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me; and, because I am going to my Father? [17]Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
[18]And they said, What is this that he said, A little while? We cannot understand what he talks about. [18]They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
[19]Jesus knew that they desired to ask him, and he said to them, Are you inquiring among yourselves concerning this, that I told you, A little while, and you will not see me; and again a little while, and you will see me? [19]Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
[20]Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and wail, and yet the world will rejoice; and you will be sad, but your sadness will be changed into gladness. [20]Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
[21]When a woman is in travail, she is depressed, because her day has arrived; but when she has given birth to a son, she no longer remembers her troubles, because of the joy that a male child is born into the world. [21]A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
[22]So you also are depressed; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man will take away from you. [22]And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
[23]In that day you will not ask me anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, that whatever you ask my Father in my name, he will give it to you. [23]And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
[24]Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be full. [24]Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
[25]I have spoken these things in figures; but the time is coming, when I will not speak to you in figures, but will plainly explain to you concerning the Father. [25]These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
[26]In that day you will ask in my name; and I will not say to you, I will ask the Father concerning you. [26]At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
[27]For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father. [27]For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
[28]I came forth from the Father, and I came into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father. [28]I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
[29]His disciples said to him, Behold, now you speak plainly, and do not utter a single figure. [29]His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
[30]Now we understand that you know everything; and you need no man to ask you; by this we believe that you have come forth from God. [30]Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
[31]Jesus said to them, Believe it. [31]Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
[32]For behold, the hour is coming, and it has now come, when you will be dispersed, every man to his own country, and you will leave me alone; and yet I am never alone, because the Father is with me. [32]Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
[33]These things I have said to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but have courage; I have conquered the world. [33]These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
