[1]AND it was that while he went into the house of one of the chief Pharishee to eat bread, on the day of shabath, they watched him. |
[1]Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκόν τινος τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν Φαρισαίων σαββάτῳ φαγεῖν ἄρτον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἦσαν παρατηρούμενοι αὐτόν. |
[2]And, behold, a certain man who had gathered watersⓘ was before him. |
[2]καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν ὑδρωπικὸς ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ. |
[3]And Jeshu answered and said to the Sophree and the Pharishee, Is it lawful on the shabath to heal? |
[3]καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς νομικοὺς καὶ Φαρισαίους λέγων· ⸀Ἔξεστιν τῷ σαββάτῳ ⸂θεραπεῦσαι ἢ οὔ⸃; |
[4]But they were silent. And he took him, and healed him, and dismissed him. |
[4]οἱ δὲ ἡσύχασαν. καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος ἰάσατο αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέλυσεν. |
[5]And he said to them, Who from you, whose son or his ox hath fallen into a pit on the day of shabath, doth not at once bring him forth? |
[5]⸀καὶ πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν· Τίνος ὑμῶν υἱὸς ἢ βοῦς εἰς φρέαρ ⸀πεσεῖται, καὶ οὐκ εὐθέως ἀνασπάσει αὐτὸν ⸀ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου; |
[6]And they could not give him the answer concerning this. |
[6]καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ⸀ἀνταποκριθῆναι πρὸς ταῦτα. |
[7]And he spoke a parable to them who had been invited there, forasmuch as he had observed them, that they chose the chief places of reclining: |
[7]Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς κεκλημένους παραβολήν, ἐπέχων πῶς τὰς πρωτοκλισίας ἐξελέγοντο, λέγων πρὸς αὐτούς· |
[8]When thou art invited by one into the house of festivity, go not to recline on the principal seat, lest there be invited thither one more honourable than thou; |
[8]Ὅταν κληθῇς ὑπό τινος εἰς γάμους, μὴ κατακλιθῇς εἰς τὴν πρωτοκλισίαν, μήποτε ἐντιμότερός σου ᾖ κεκλημένος ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ |
[9]And he come who thyself and him had called, and say to thee, Give place to this; and thou be ashamed as thou arisest to take another place. |
[9]καὶ ἐλθὼν ὁ σὲ καὶ αὐτὸν καλέσας ἐρεῖ σοι· Δὸς τούτῳ τόπον, καὶ τότε ἄρξῃ μετὰ αἰσχύνης τὸν ἔσχατον τόπον κατέχειν. |
[10]But when thou art invited, go, recline thee in the last [seat], that when he who called thee cometh, he may say to thee, My friend, ascend and recline above, and thou shalt have honour before all of them who recline with thee. |
[10]ἀλλʼ ὅταν κληθῇς πορευθεὶς ἀνάπεσε εἰς τὸν ἔσχατον τόπον, ἵνα ὅταν ἔλθῃ ὁ κεκληκώς σε ⸀ἐρεῖ σοι· Φίλε, προσανάβηθι ἀνώτερον· τότε ἔσται σοι δόξα ἐνώπιον ⸀πάντων τῶν συνανακειμένων σοι. |
[11]For every one who exalteth himself shall be humbled; and every one who humbleth himself shall be exalted. |
[11]ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ὁ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται. |
[12]And he said to him who had called him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, thou shouldest not call thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also call thee, and thou have this recompence. |
[12]Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ τῷ κεκληκότι αὐτόν· Ὅταν ποιῇς ἄριστον ἢ δεῖπνον, μὴ φώνει τοὺς φίλους σου μηδὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου μηδὲ τοὺς συγγενεῖς σου μηδὲ γείτονας πλουσίους, μήποτε καὶ αὐτοὶ ⸂ἀντικαλέσωσίν σε⸃ καὶ γένηται ⸂ἀνταπόδομά σοι⸃. |
[13]But when thou makest a feast,ⓘ call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, |
[13]ἀλλʼ ὅταν ⸂δοχὴν ποιῇς⸃, κάλει πτωχούς, ἀναπείρους, χωλούς, τυφλούς· |
[14]And thou shalt be blessed, because they cannot recompense thee; for thy recompence shall be in the resurrection of the just. |
[14]καὶ μακάριος ἔσῃ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἀνταποδοῦναί σοι, ἀνταποδοθήσεται γάρ σοι ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τῶν δικαίων. |
[15]But when one of those who reclined heard these [words], he said to him, Blessed he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of Aloha! |
[15]Ἀκούσας δέ τις τῶν συνανακειμένων ταῦτα εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Μακάριος ⸀ὅστις φάγεται ⸀ἄρτον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ. |
[16]Jeshu saith to him, A certain man made a great supper, and called many. |
[16]ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἄνθρωπός τις ⸀ἐποίει δεῖπνον μέγα, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πολλούς, |
[17]And he sent his servant, at the time of the supper, to say to them who were called, Behold, every thing is prepared for you, come. |
[17]καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ δείπνου εἰπεῖν τοῖς κεκλημένοις· Ἔρχεσθε, ὅτι ἤδη ἕτοιμά ⸀ἐστιν. |
[18]And every one of them began to excuse himself. The first said to him, I have bought an estate, and am constrained to go forth to see it: I beseech thee, permit me to be excused. |
[18]καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀπὸ μιᾶς ⸂πάντες παραιτεῖσθαι⸃. ὁ πρῶτος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἀγρὸν ἠγόρασα καὶ ἔχω ἀνάγκην ⸀ἐξελθὼν ἰδεῖν αὐτόν· ἐρωτῶ σε, ἔχε με παρῃτημένον. |
[19]Another said, Five yoke of oxen have I bought, and I go to prove them: I beseech thee, permit me to be excused. |
[19]καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν· Ζεύγη βοῶν ἠγόρασα πέντε καὶ πορεύομαι δοκιμάσαι αὐτά· ἐρωτῶ σε, ἔχε με παρῃτημένον. |
[20]Another said, A wife have I taken, and therefore I cannot come. |
[20]καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν· Γυναῖκα ἔγημα καὶ διὰ τοῦτο οὐ δύναμαι ἐλθεῖν. |
[21]And the servant came and told his lord these things. Then the lord of the house was angry, and said to his servant, Go into the streets and outskirts of the city, and bring hither the poor, and the afflicted, and the lame, and the sightless. |
[21]καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ ⸀δοῦλος ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα. τότε ὀργισθεὶς ὁ οἰκοδεσπότης εἶπεν τῷ δούλῳ αὐτοῦ· Ἔξελθε ταχέως εἰς τὰς πλατείας καὶ ῥύμας τῆς πόλεως, καὶ τοὺς πτωχοὺς καὶ ἀναπείρους καὶ ⸂τυφλοὺς καὶ χωλοὺς⸃ εἰσάγαγε ὧδε. |
[22]And the servant said, My lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is place. |
[22]καὶ εἶπεν ὁ δοῦλος· Κύριε, γέγονεν ⸀ὃ ἐπέταξας, καὶ ἔτι τόπος ἐστίν. |
[23]And the lord said to his servant, Go forth into the ways, and among the hedges, and constrain them to come in, that my house may be filled: |
[23]καὶ εἶπεν ὁ κύριος πρὸς τὸν δοῦλον· Ἔξελθε εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς καὶ φραγμοὺς καὶ ἀνάγκασον εἰσελθεῖν, ἵνα γεμισθῇ ⸂μου ὁ οἶκος⸃· |
[24]For I tell you, that not one of those men who were called shall taste of my supper. |
[24]λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς τῶν ἀνδρῶν ἐκείνων τῶν κεκλημένων γεύσεταί μου τοῦ ⸀δείπνου. |
[25]AND while great multitudes were going with him, he turned and said to them, |
[25]Συνεπορεύοντο δὲ αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί, καὶ στραφεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· |
[26]Whoever cometh with me, and doth not hate his father and his mother, and his brethren and his sisters, and his wife and his children, and himself also, a disciple he cannot be of mine. |
[26]Εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ⸀ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τὰς ἀδελφάς, ἔτι ⸀τε καὶ τὴν ⸂ψυχὴν ἑαυτοῦ⸃, οὐ δύναται ⸂εἶναί μου μαθητής⸃. |
[27]And whoever doth not take up his cross and come after me, a disciple he cannot be of mine. |
[27]⸀ὅστις οὐ βαστάζει τὸν σταυρὸν ⸀ἑαυτοῦ καὶ ἔρχεται ὀπίσω μου, οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής. |
[28]For who of you that willeth to build a tower, and doth not first sit down and reckon the expense of it, whether he have [wherewith] to finish it? |
[28]τίς γὰρ ἐξ ⸀ὑμῶν θέλων πύργον οἰκοδομῆσαι οὐχὶ πρῶτον καθίσας ψηφίζει τὴν δαπάνην, εἰ ⸀ἔχει εἰς ἀπαρτισμόν; |
[29]Lest, when he shall have laid the foundation, and shall not be able to finish, all who see shall deride him, |
[29]ἵνα μήποτε θέντος αὐτοῦ θεμέλιον καὶ μὴ ἰσχύοντος ἐκτελέσαι πάντες οἱ θεωροῦντες ἄρξωνται ⸂αὐτῷ ἐμπαίζειν⸃ |
[30]Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. |
[30]λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἤρξατο οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ἐκτελέσαι. |
[31]Or, what king, going to war with a king his neighbour, doth not first consider, whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him who cometh against him with twenty thousand? |
[31]ἢ τίς βασιλεὺς πορευόμενος ⸂ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν⸃ εἰς πόλεμον οὐχὶ καθίσας πρῶτον ⸀βουλεύσεται εἰ δυνατός ἐστιν ἐν δέκα χιλιάσιν ⸀ὑπαντῆσαι τῷ μετὰ εἴκοσι χιλιάδων ἐρχομένῳ ἐπʼ αὐτόν; |
[32]And if not, while he is distant from him, he may send legates, and pray for peace. |
[32]εἰ δὲ μήγε, ἔτι ⸂αὐτοῦ πόρρω⸃ ὄντος πρεσβείαν ἀποστείλας ἐρωτᾷ ⸀τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην. |
[33]So every one of you who doth not leave all his possession, cannot be unto me a disciple. |
[33]οὕτως οὖν πᾶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ὃς οὐκ ἀποτάσσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ ὑπάρχουσιν οὐ δύναται ⸂εἶναί μου⸃ μαθητής. |
[34]Salt is good; but if the salt also shall become insipid, with what shall it be seasoned? |
[34]Καλὸν ⸀οὖν τὸ ἅλας· ἐὰν δὲ ⸀καὶ τὸ ἅλας μωρανθῇ, ἐν τίνι ἀρτυθήσεται; |
[35]Not for the earth, nor for the dunghill, it goeth. They cast it out. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. |
[35]οὔτε εἰς γῆν οὔτε εἰς κοπρίαν εὔθετόν ἐστιν· ἔξω βάλλουσιν αὐτό. ὁ ἔχων ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω. |
