PesNT(Eth)
Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]BUT the feast of the Phatiree, which is called Petscha, drew on. [1]NOW the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the passover, was at hand.
[2]And the chief priests and the Sophree sought how they might kill him; for they feared from the people. [2]And the high priests and the scribes sought how to kill him; but they were afraid of the people.
[3]But Satana entered into Jihuda called Scarjuta, who was of the number of the twelve. [3]But Satan had taken possession of Judas who is called of Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.
[4]And he went, and spoke with the chief priests, and the Sophree, and the chief authorities of the temple, how he would deliver him to them. [4]So he went away, and spoke with the high priests and the scribes and officers of the temple, about delivering him to them.
[5]And they were glad, and confirmed to give him silver. [5]And they were glad and promised to give him money.
[6]And he promised to them, and sought him opportunity to betray him apart from the multitude. [6]And he agreed with them, and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the people.
[7]And the day of unleavened bread came, on which it was the custom to slay the petscha. [7]Then the day of unleavened bread came, on which it was the custom to kill the passover lamb.
[8]And Jeshu sent Kipha and Juchanon, and said to them, Go prepare for us the petscha, that we may eat. [8]So Jesus sent Peter and John, and said to them, Go and prepare the passover for us to eat.
[9]But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? [9]They said to him, Where do you wish us to prepare?
[10]He saith to them, When, you have entered into the city, a man meeteth you, bearing a pitcher of waters; go after him, [10]He said to them, Behold, when you enter the city, you will meet a man carrying a skin full of water; follow him. And wherever he enters,
[11]And when he hath gone in, say to the lord of the house, Our Master saith, Is there a dining-place where I may eat the petscha with my disciples? [11]Say to the master of the house, Our Teacher says, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the passover with my disciples?
[12]And he will show you a certain large upper chamber which is furnished: there make ready. [12]And behold, he will show you an upper room, large and furnished; there make ready.
[13]And they went, and found as he had told them: and they prepared the petscha. [13]And they went and found just as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.
[14]And when it was time, Jeshu came and reclined, and the twelve apostles with him. [14]And when the time came, Jesus came and sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
[15]And he said to them, With desire have I desired to eat this petscha with you before I suffer: [15]And he said to them, I have desired with desire to eat this passover with you before I suffer;
[16]For I tell you that from henceforth I shall not eat it, until it shall have been fulfilled in the kingdom of Aloha. [16]For I say to you, that henceforth, I will not eat it, until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
[17]And he took the cup, and praised, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: [17]And he took the cup and gave thanks and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves.
[18]For I tell you that I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of Aloha shall have come. [18]For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
[19]And he took bread, and praised, and brake, and gave to them, and said, This is my body which for you is given: this do in my memory. [19]And he took bread and gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them and said, This is my body, which is given for your sake; this do in remembrance of me.
[20]And thus also respecting the cup, when, after they had supped, he said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which for you is shed. [20]And likewise also the cup, after they had eaten the supper, he said, This is the cup of the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.
[21]Nevertheless, the hand of him who betrayeth me is on the table. [21]But behold, the hand of him who is to betray me is on the table.
[22]And the Son of man goeth, as he was set apart: nevertheless woe to that man by whom he is betrayed! [22]And the Son of man will go, just as he has been destined; but woe to the man by whose hand he will be betrayed!
[23]And they began to inquire among themselves, who it was of them who this should do. [23]And they began to enquire among themselves, which one of them was to do this act.
[24]But there was also a contention among them, who of them was the greatest. [24]There was also a dispute among them, as to who is the greatest among them.
[25]And Jeshu said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are their lords; and they who exercise authority over them, doers of good are called. [25]Jesus said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are also their owners; and those who rule over them are called benefactors.
[26]But you, not so: yea, he who is great among you, let him be as the least; and he who is chief, as one who serveth. [26]But not so with you; but he who is great among you, let him be the least, and he who is a leader be like a minister.
[27]For who is greatest, he who reclineth, or he who serveth? Is not he who reclineth? But I am among you as he who serveth. [27]For who is greater, he who sits down or he who serves? Is it not he who sits down? but I am among you as one who serves.
[28]You are they who have remained with me in my temptations. [28]You are those who have remained with me, throughout my trials.
[29]And I promise to you, as hath promised to me my Father, a kingdom; [29]And I promise you, just as my Father has promised me, a kingdom,
[30]That you may eat and drink at the table in my kingdom, and may sit upon thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Isroel. [30]That you may eat and drink at the table in my kingdom; and you will sit on chairs, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
[31]AND Jeshu said to Shemun, Shemun, behold, Satana, demandeth to sift thee as wheat; [31]And Jesus said to Simon, Simon, behold Satan wants to sift all of you as wheat;
[32]But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail: and thou also, in the time that thou art converted, confirm thy brethren. [32]But I have made supplication for you that your faith may not weaken; and even you in time will repent, and strengthen your brethren.
[33]But Shemun said to him, My Lord, with thee I am prepared, and for the house of the bound, and for death. [33]Simon said to him, My Lord, I am ready with you, even for the prison and for death.
[34]Jeshu saith to him, I tell thee, Shemun, that the cock will not crow to-day, till three times thou hast denied that thou knowest me. [34]Jesus said to him, I say to you, Simon, the cock will not crow today, until you have denied three times that you know me.
[35]And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, or scrip, or shoes, was any thing wanting to you? They say to him, Nothing. [35]And he said to them, When I sent you out without purses, and without bags, and shoes, did you lack anything? They said to him, Not a thing.
[36]He saith to them, Henceforth, he who hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip also; and he who hath not a sword, let him sell his garment and buy a sword. [36]He said to them, From now on he who has purses, let him take them, and the bag likewise; and he who has no sword, let him sell his robe and buy for himself a sword.
[37]For I tell you also, that what is written must be fulfilled in me, that with the transgressors he was numbered: for all which concerns me must be accomplished. [37]For I say to you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, He will be numbered among the wicked; for all the things concerning me will be fulfilled.
[38]And they say to him, Our Lord, behold, here are two swords. He saith to them, They suffice. [38]And they said to him, Our Lord, behold here are two swords. He said to them, That is enough.
[39]And he came forth, and went, as he was used, to the mount of the Place of Olives; and his disciples also went after him. [39]And he went out and went away, as it was his custom, to the Mount of the Home of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
[40]And when come unto the spot, he said to them, Pray that you enter not into temptation. [40]And when he arrived at a place, he said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.
[41]And he removed from them as [about the distance of] a stone's throw, and bowed the knee, and prayed, [41]And he separated from them, about the distance of a stone's throw, and he kneeled down, and prayed,
[42]And said, Father, if thou wilt, let this cup pass: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. [42]Saying, O Father, if you will, let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but your will be done.
[43]And an angel appeared to him from heaven, who strengthened him. [43]And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, to strengthen him.
[44]And being in terror, more vehemently he prayed, and his sweat was as drops of blood, and fell upon the ground. [44]And he was in fear, and prayed earnestly; and his sweat became like drops of blood; and he fell down upon the ground.
[45]And he arose from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them asleep, from sorrow. [45]Then he rose up from his prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them sleeping because of distress.
[46]And he said to them, Why sleep you? arise and pray, that you enter not into temptation. [46]And he said to them, Why do you sleep? rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.
[47]And as he was speaking, behold a multitude, and behold him who was called Jihuda, one of the twelve, coming before them, and he came nigh to Jeshu, and kissed him: for this was the sign he had given to them, He whom I shall kiss is he. [47]While he was still speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, coming before them; and he drew near to Jesus and kissed him. For this was the sign he had given them, He whom I kiss, it is he.
[48]Jeshu saith to him, Jihuda, with the kiss betrayest thou the Son of man? [48]Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?
[49]But when they who were with him saw what was done, they say to him, Our Lord, shall we strike with the sword? [49]When those who were with him saw what happened, they said to him, Our Lord, shall we smite them with swords?
[50]And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and took off his right ear. [50]And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
[51]Jeshu answered and said, It sufficeth until this; and he touched his ear which he had struck, and healed it. [51]But Jesus answered and said, It is enough for the present. And he touched the ear of him who was wounded, and healed it.
[52]And Jeshu said to them who had come against him, the chief priests, and elders, and the chiefs of the forces of the temple, As against a thief are you come forth against me, with swords and clubs to take me? [52]And Jesus said to the high priests and the elders and the officers of the temple, who had come against him, Have you come out against me to arrest me with swords and staves, as if you were against a bandit?
[53]Every day with you have I been in the temple, and you did not stretch forth upon me [your] hands; but this is your hour and the power of darkness. [53]I was with you every day in the temple, and you did not even point your hands at me; but this is your turn, and the power of darkness.
[54]And they took [and] brought him to the house of the chief of the priests; and Shemun came after him from afar. [54]And they arrested him, and brought him to the house of the high priest. And Simon followed him afar off.
[55]Now they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting around it, and Shemun also sat with them. [55]And they kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard, and they sat around it; and Simon also sat among them.
[56]And a certain damsel saw him as he sat by the fire, and, looking at him, she said, This also was with him. [56]And a young woman saw him sitting by the fire, and she looked at him and said, This man also was with him.
[57]But he denied, and said, Woman, I know him not. [57]But he denied, and said, Woman, I do not know him.
[58]And after a little while, another saw him, and said, Thou also art of them. But Kipha said, I am not. [58]And after a little while, another saw him, and said to him, You also are one of them. But Peter said, I am not.
[59]And after one hour another contended and said, Assuredly this also was with him, for he is also a Galiloya. [59]And after an hour, another one argued and said, Truly, this man also was with him; for he is also a Galilean.
[60]Kipha saith, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And at once, while he was speaking, the cock crew. [60]Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are saying. And immediately while he was still speaking, the cock crew.
[61]And Jeshu turned, and looked upon Kipha; and Shemun remembered his word which our Lord had spoken to him, that before the cock shall crow thou wilt have denied me three times. [61]And Jesus turned and looked at Peter. And Simon remembered the word of our Lord, that he said to him, Before the cock crows you will deny me three times.
[62]And Shemun went without and wept bitterly. [62]And Simon went outside and wept bitterly.
[63]And the men who held Jeshu mocked him, and veiled him, [63]And the men who held Jesus mocked him,
[64]And they struck him upon the face, saying, Prophesy, who struck thee. [64]And they covered his head, and smote him on his face, saying, Prophesy, who has struck you.
[65]And many other things they blasphemed and spake against him. [65]And many other things they blasphemed and said against him.
[66]AND when it dawned, the elders and chief priests and the Sophree came together, and took him into the house of their assembly; [66]As soon as it was daybreak, the elders and the high priests and the scribes gathered together, and brought him up to their council chamber.
[67]Saying to him, Art thou the Meshicha? tell us. He saith to them, Should I tell you, you would not believe me; [67]And they said to him, If you are the Christ, tell us. He said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe me.
[68]And were I to ask you, you would not return me a word, nor release me. [68]And if I ask you, you will not answer me nor release me.
[69]Henceforth the Son of man sitteth at the right hand of the power of Aloha. [69]From henceforth the Son of man will sit at the right hand of the power of God.
[70]Then said they all, Thou art, then, the Son of Aloha? Jeshu saith to them, You say that I am. [70]And they all said, Are you then the Son of God? Jesus said to them, You say that I am.
[71]They say, Why yet need we witnesses? for we have heard from his mouth. [71]And they said, Why then do we need witnesses? for we have heard it from his own mouth.
