| [1]συγκαλεσάμενος δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς δύναμιν καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ δαιμόνια καὶ νόσους θεραπεύειν, |
[1]Then called he the twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to heal diseases. |
| [2]καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἰᾶσθαι [τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς], |
[2]And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to cure the sick. |
| [3]καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, μηδὲν αἴρετε εἰς τὴν ὁδόν, μήτε ῥάβδον μήτε πήραν μήτε ἄρτον μήτε ἀργύριον, μήτε [ἀνὰ] δύο χιτῶνας ἔχειν. |
[3]And he said to them, Take nothing to your journey, neither staves, nor script, neither bread, nor silver, neither have two coats. |
| [4]καὶ εἰς ἣν ἂν οἰκίαν εἰσέλθητε, ἐκεῖ μένετε καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἐξέρχεσθε. |
[4]And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. |
| [5]καὶ ὅσοι ἂν μὴ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς, ἐξερχόμενοι ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως ἐκείνης τὸν κονιορτὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ποδῶν ὑμῶν ἀποτινάσσετε εἰς μαρτύριον ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς. |
[5]And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. |
| [6]ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ διήρχοντο κατὰ τὰς κώμας εὐαγγελιζόμενοι καὶ θεραπεύοντες πανταχοῦ. |
[6]And they went out, and went through every town preaching the Gospel, and healing everywhere. |
| [7]ἤκουσεν δὲ ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὰ γινόμενα πάντα, καὶ διηπόρει διὰ τὸ λέγεσθαι ὑπό τινων ὅτι ἰωάννης ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν, |
[7] Now Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he doubted, because that it was said of some, that John was risen again from the dead: |
| [8]ὑπό τινων δὲ ὅτι ἠλίας ἐφάνη, ἄλλων δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη. |
[8]And of some, that Elias had appeared: and of some, that one of the old Prophets was risen again. |
| [9]εἶπεν δὲ ἡρῴδης, ἰωάννην ἐγὼ ἀπεκεφάλισα· τίς δέ ἐστιν οὖτος περὶ οὖ ἀκούω τοιαῦτα; καὶ ἐζήτει ἰδεῖν αὐτόν. |
[9]Then Herod said, John have I beheaded: who then is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. |
| [10]καὶ ὑποστρέψαντες οἱ ἀπόστολοι διηγήσαντο αὐτῶ ὅσα ἐποίησαν. καὶ παραλαβὼν αὐτοὺς ὑπεχώρησεν κατ᾽ ἰδίαν εἰς πόλιν καλουμένην βηθσαϊδά. |
[10] And when the Apostles returned, they told him what great things they had done. Then he took them, and went aside into a solitary place, near to the city called Bethsaida. |
| [11]οἱ δὲ ὄχλοι γνόντες ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῶ. καὶ ἀποδεξάμενος αὐτοὺς ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς περὶ τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ τοὺς χρείαν ἔχοντας θεραπείας ἰᾶτο. |
[11]But when the people knew it, they followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need to be healed. |
| [12]ἡ δὲ ἡμέρα ἤρξατο κλίνειν· προσελθόντες δὲ οἱ δώδεκα εἶπαν αὐτῶ, ἀπόλυσον τὸν ὄχλον, ἵνα πορευθέντες εἰς τὰς κύκλῳ κώμας καὶ ἀγροὺς καταλύσωσιν καὶ εὕρωσιν ἐπισιτισμόν, ὅτι ὧδε ἐν ἐρήμῳ τόπῳ ἐσμέν. |
[12]And when the day began to wear away, the twelve came, and said unto him, Send the people away, that they may go into the towns and villages round about, and lodge, and get meat: for we are here in a desert place. |
| [13]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, δότε αὐτοῖς ὑμεῖς φαγεῖν. οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, οὐκ εἰσὶν ἡμῖν πλεῖον ἢ ἄρτοι πέντε καὶ ἰχθύες δύο, εἰ μήτι πορευθέντες ἡμεῖς ἀγοράσωμεν εἰς πάντα τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον βρώματα. |
[13]But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes, except we should go and buy meat for all this people. |
| [14]ἦσαν γὰρ ὡσεὶ ἄνδρες πεντακισχίλιοι. εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, κατακλίνατε αὐτοὺς κλισίας [ὡσεὶ] ἀνὰ πεντήκοντα. |
[14]For they were about five thousand men. Then he said to his disciples, Cause them to sit down by fifties in a company. |
| [15]καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως καὶ κατέκλιναν ἅπαντας. |
[15]And they did so, and caused all to sit down. |
| [16]λαβὼν δὲ τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους καὶ τοὺς δύο ἰχθύας ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ κατέκλασεν καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς παραθεῖναι τῶ ὄχλῳ. |
[16]Then he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looked up to heaven, and blessed them, and break, and gave to the disciples, to set before the people. |
| [17]καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἐχορτάσθησαν πάντες, καὶ ἤρθη τὸ περισσεῦσαν αὐτοῖς κλασμάτων κόφινοι δώδεκα. |
[17]So they did all eat, and were satisfied: and there was taken up of that remained to them, twelve baskets full of broken meat. |
| [18]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῶ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων, τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ὄχλοι εἶναι; |
[18] And it came to pass as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him, and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? |
| [19]οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν, ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, ἄλλοι δὲ ἠλίαν, ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη. |
[19]They answered, and said, John Baptist: and others say, Elias: and some say, that one of the old Prophets is risen again. |
| [20]εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς, ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι; πέτρος δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, τὸν χριστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ. |
[20]And he said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and said, The Christ of God. |
| [21]ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ λέγειν τοῦτο, |
[21]And he warned, and commanded them, that they should tell that to no man, |
| [22]εἰπὼν ὅτι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθῆναι. |
[22]Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be reproved of the Elders, and of the high Priests and Scribes, and be slain, and the third day rise again. |
| [23]ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς πάντας, εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἔρχεσθαι, ἀρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καθ᾽ ἡμέραν, καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι. |
[23] And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. |
| [24]ὃς γὰρ ἂν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ᾽ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ, οὖτος σώσει αὐτήν. |
[24]For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. |
| [25]τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς; |
[25]For what advantageth it a man, if he win the whole world, and destroy himself, or lose himself? |
| [26]ὃς γὰρ ἂν ἐπαισχυνθῇ με καὶ τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους, τοῦτον ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπαισχυνθήσεται, ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ τῶν ἁγίων ἀγγέλων. |
[26]For whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his glory, and in the glory of the Father, and of the Holy Angels. |
| [27]λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀληθῶς, εἰσίν τινες τῶν αὐτοῦ ἑστηκότων οἳ οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ. |
[27]And I tell you of a surety, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God. |
| [28]ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὡσεὶ ἡμέραι ὀκτὼ [καὶ] παραλαβὼν πέτρον καὶ ἰωάννην καὶ ἰάκωβον ἀνέβη εἰς τὸ ὄρος προσεύξασθαι. |
[28]And it came to pass about an eight days after those words, that he took Peter, and John, and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. |
| [29]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ προσεύχεσθαι αὐτὸν τὸ εἶδος τοῦ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἕτερον καὶ ὁ ἱματισμὸς αὐτοῦ λευκὸς ἐξαστράπτων. |
[29]And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was changed, and his garment was white and glistered. |
| [30]καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο συνελάλουν αὐτῶ, οἵτινες ἦσαν μωϊσῆς καὶ ἠλίας, |
[30]And behold, two men talked with him, which were Moses and Elias, |
| [31]οἳ ὀφθέντες ἐν δόξῃ ἔλεγον τὴν ἔξοδον αὐτοῦ ἣν ἤμελλεν πληροῦν ἐν ἰερουσαλήμ. |
[31]Which appeared in glory, and told of his departing, which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. |
| [32]ὁ δὲ πέτρος καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῶ ἦσαν βεβαρημένοι ὕπνῳ· διαγρηγορήσαντες δὲ εἶδον τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς δύο ἄνδρας τοὺς συνεστῶτας αὐτῶ. |
[32]But Peter and they that were with him, were heavy with sleep, and when they awoke, they saw his glory, and the two men standing with him. |
| [33]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ διαχωρίζεσθαι αὐτοὺς ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἶπεν ὁ πέτρος πρὸς τὸν ἰησοῦν, ἐπιστάτα, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι, καὶ ποιήσωμεν σκηνὰς τρεῖς, μίαν σοὶ καὶ μίαν μωϊσεῖ καὶ μίαν ἠλίᾳ, μὴ εἰδὼς ὃ λέγει. |
[33]And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: let us therefore make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias, and wist not what he said. |
| [34]ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ἐγένετο νεφέλη καὶ ἐπεσκίαζεν αὐτούς· ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ ἐν τῶ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν νεφέλην. |
[34]While he thus spake, there came a cloud and overshadowed them, and they feared when these were entering into the cloud. |
| [35]καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης λέγουσα, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἐκλελεγμένος, αὐτοῦ ἀκούετε. |
[35]And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, hear him. |
| [36]καὶ ἐν τῶ γενέσθαι τὴν φωνὴν εὑρέθη ἰησοῦς μόνος. καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐσίγησαν καὶ οὐδενὶ ἀπήγγειλαν ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις οὐδὲν ὧν ἑώρακαν. |
[36]And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone: and they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. |
| [37]ἐγένετο δὲ τῇ ἑξῆς ἡμέρᾳ κατελθόντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους συνήντησεν αὐτῶ ὄχλος πολύς. |
[37] And it came to pass on the next day, as they came down from the mountain, much people met him. |
| [38]καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου ἐβόησεν λέγων, διδάσκαλε, δέομαί σου ἐπιβλέψαι ἐπὶ τὸν υἱόν μου, ὅτι μονογενής μοί ἐστιν, |
[38]And behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, behold my son: for he is all that I have. |
| [39]καὶ ἰδοὺ πνεῦμα λαμβάνει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξαίφνης κράζει, καὶ σπαράσσει αὐτὸν μετὰ ἀφροῦ καὶ μόγις ἀποχωρεῖ ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ συντρῖβον αὐτόν· |
[39]And lo, a spirit taketh him, and suddenly he cryeth, and he teareth him, that he foameth, and with much pain departeth from him, when he hath bruised him. |
| [40]καὶ ἐδεήθην τῶν μαθητῶν σου ἵνα ἐκβάλωσιν αὐτό, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν. |
[40]Now I have besought thy disciples to cast him out, but they could not. |
| [41]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, ὦ γενεὰ ἄπιστος καὶ διεστραμμένη, ἕως πότε ἔσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς καὶ ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν; προσάγαγε ὧδε τὸν υἱόν σου. |
[41]Then Jesus answered, and said, O generation faithless, and crooked, how long now shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. |
| [42]ἔτι δὲ προσερχομένου αὐτοῦ ἔρρηξεν αὐτὸν τὸ δαιμόνιον καὶ συνεσπάραξεν· ἐπετίμησεν δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς τῶ πνεύματι τῶ ἀκαθάρτῳ, καὶ ἰάσατο τὸν παῖδα καὶ ἀπέδωκεν αὐτὸν τῶ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ. |
[42]And whiles he was yet coming, the devil rent him, and tare him: and Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him to his father. |
| [43]ἐξεπλήσσοντο δὲ πάντες ἐπὶ τῇ μεγαλειότητι τοῦ θεοῦ. πάντων δὲ θαυμαζόντων ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐποίει εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, |
[43] And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God: and while they all wondered at all things, which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, |
| [44]θέσθε ὑμεῖς εἰς τὰ ὦτα ὑμῶν τοὺς λόγους τούτους, ὁ γὰρ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων. |
[44]Mark these words diligently: for it shall come to pass, that the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. |
| [45]οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, καὶ ἦν παρακεκαλυμμένον ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἵνα μὴ αἴσθωνται αὐτό, καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο ἐρωτῆσαι αὐτὸν περὶ τοῦ ῥήματος τούτου. |
[45]But they understood not that word: for it was hid from them, so that they could not perceive it: and they feared to ask him of that word. |
| [46]εἰσῆλθεν δὲ διαλογισμὸς ἐν αὐτοῖς, τὸ τίς ἂν εἴη μείζων αὐτῶν. |
[46] Then there arose a disputation among them, which of them should be the greatest. |
| [47]ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς εἰδὼς τὸν διαλογισμὸν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενος παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ παρ᾽ ἑαυτῶ, |
[47]When Jesus saw the thoughts of their hearts, he took a little child, and set him by him, |
| [48]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ὃς ἐὰν δέξηται τοῦτο τὸ παιδίον ἐπὶ τῶ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται, καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐμὲ δέξηται δέχεται τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με· ὁ γὰρ μικρότερος ἐν πᾶσιν ὑμῖν ὑπάρχων οὖτός ἐστιν μέγας. |
[48]And said unto them, Whosoever receiveth this little child in my Name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, he shall be great. |
| [49]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ἰωάννης εἶπεν, ἐπιστάτα, εἴδομέν τινα ἐν τῶ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια, καὶ ἐκωλύομεν αὐτὸν ὅτι οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν. |
[49] And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy Name, and we forbad him, because he followeth thee not with us. |
| [50]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἰησοῦς, μὴ κωλύετε, ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθ᾽ ὑμῶν ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐστιν. |
[50]Then Jesus said unto him, Forbid ye him not: for he that is not against us, is with us. |
| [51]ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῶ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήμψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς τὸ πρόσωπον ἐστήρισεν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ, |
[51] And it came to pass, when the days were accomplished, that he should be received up, he settled himself fully to go to Jerusalem, |
| [52]καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ. καὶ πορευθέντες εἰσῆλθον εἰς κώμην σαμαριτῶν, ὡς ἑτοιμάσαι αὐτῶ· |
[52]And sent messengers before him: and they went and entered into a town of the Samaritans, to prepare him lodging. |
| [53]καὶ οὐκ ἐδέξαντο αὐτόν, ὅτι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἦν πορευόμενον εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ. |
[53]But they would not receive him, because his behavior was, as though he would go to Jerusalem. |
| [54]ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἰάκωβος καὶ ἰωάννης εἶπαν, κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι αὐτούς; |
[54]And when his disciples, James and John saw it, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command, that fire come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? |
| [55]στραφεὶς δὲ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς. |
[55]But Jesus turned about, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not of what spirit ye are. |
| [56]καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς ἑτέραν κώμην. |
[56]For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. Then they went to another town. |
| [57]καὶ πορευομένων αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ εἶπέν τις πρὸς αὐτόν, ἀκολουθήσω σοι ὅπου ἐὰν ἀπέρχῃ. |
[57] And it came to pass that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, I will follow thee, Lord, whithersoever thou goest. |
| [58]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῶ ὁ ἰησοῦς, αἱ ἀλώπεκες φωλεοὺς ἔχουσιν καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνώσεις, ὁ δὲ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οὐκ ἔχει ποῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν κλίνῃ. |
[58]And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of man hath not whereon to lay his head. |
| [59]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς ἕτερον, ἀκολούθει μοι. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, [κύριε,] ἐπίτρεψόν μοι ἀπελθόντι πρῶτον θάψαι τὸν πατέρα μου. |
[59]But he said unto another, Follow me. And the same said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. |
| [60]εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῶ, ἄφες τοὺς νεκροὺς θάψαι τοὺς ἑαυτῶν νεκρούς, σὺ δὲ ἀπελθὼν διάγγελλε τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ. |
[60]And Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. |
| [61]εἶπεν δὲ καὶ ἕτερος, ἀκολουθήσω σοι, κύριε· πρῶτον δὲ ἐπίτρεψόν μοι ἀποτάξασθαι τοῖς εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου. |
[61]Then another said, I will follow thee, Lord: but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at mine house. |
| [62]εἶπεν δὲ [πρὸς αὐτὸν] ὁ ἰησοῦς, οὐδεὶς ἐπιβαλὼν τὴν χεῖρα ἐπ᾽ ἄροτρον καὶ βλέπων εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω εὔθετός ἐστιν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ. |
[62]And Jesus said unto him, No man that putteth his hand to the plough, and looketh back, is apt to the kingdom of God. |
