YLT
[1]ThenG2532 came togetherG4863[G5743] untoG4314 himG846 the PhariseesG5330, andG2532 certainG5100 of the scribesG1122, which cameG2064[G5631] fromG575 JerusalemG2414. [1]And gathered together unto him are the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, having come from Jerusalem,
[2]AndG2532 when they sawG1492[G5631] someG5100 of hisG846 disciplesG3101 eatG2068[G5723] breadG740 with defiledG2839, that is to sayG5123[G5748], with unwashenG449, handsG5495, they found faultG3201.[G5662] [2]and having seen certain of his disciples with defiled hands -- that is, unwashed -- eating bread, they found fault;
[3]ForG1063 the PhariseesG5330, andG2532 allG3956 the JewsG2453, exceptG3362 they washG3538[G5672] their handsG5495 oftG4435, eatG2068[G5719] notG3756, holdingG2902[G5723] the traditionG3862 of the eldersG4245. [3]for the Pharisees, and all the Jews, if they do not wash the hands to the wrist, do not eat, holding the tradition of the elders,
[4]AndG2532 when they come fromG575 the marketG58, exceptG3362 they washG907[G5672], they eatG2068[G5719] notG3756. AndG2532 manyG4183 other thingsG243 there beG2076[G5748], whichG3739 they have receivedG3880[G5627] to holdG2902[G5721], as the washingG909 of cupsG4221, andG2532 potsG3582,[G2532] brasen vesselsG5473, andG2532 of tablesG2825. [4]and, [coming] from the market-place, if they do not baptize themselves, they do not eat; and many other things there are that they received to hold, baptisms of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels, and couches.
[5]ThenG1899 the PhariseesG5330 andG2532 scribesG1122 askedG1905[G5719] himG846, WhyG1302 walkG4043[G5719] notG3756 thyG4675 disciplesG3101 accordingG2596 to the traditionG3862 of the eldersG4245, butG235 eatG2068[G5719] breadG740 with unwashenG449 handsG5495? [5]Then question him do the Pharisees and the scribes, `Wherefore do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but with unwashed hands do eat the bread?'
[6]He answeredG611[G5679] andG1161 saidG2036[G5627] unto themG846,[G3754] WellG2573 hath EsaiasG2268 prophesiedG4395[G5656] ofG4012 youG5216 hypocritesG5273, asG5613 it is writtenG1125[G5769], ThisG3778 peopleG2992 honourethG5091[G5719] meG3165 with their lipsG5491, butG1161 theirG846 heartG2588 isG568[G5719] farG4206 fromG575 meG1700. [6]and he answering said to them -- `Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, hypocrites, as it hath been written, This people with the lips doth honor Me, and their heart is far from Me;
[7]HowbeitG1161 in vainG3155 do they worshipG4576[G5736] meG3165, teachingG1321[G5723] for doctrinesG1319 the commandmentsG1778 of menG444. [7]and in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings, commands of men;
[8]ForG1063 laying asideG863[G5631] the commandmentG1785 of GodG2316, ye holdG2902[G5719] the traditionG3862 of menG444, as the washingG909 of potsG3582 andG2532 cupsG4221: andG2532 manyG4183 otherG243 suchG5108 like thingsG3946 ye doG4160.[G5719] [8]for, having put away the command of God, ye hold the tradition of men, baptisms of pots and cups; and many other such like things ye do.'
[9]AndG2532 he saidG3004[G5707] unto themG846, Full wellG2573 ye rejectG114[G5719] the commandmentG1785 of GodG2316, thatG2443 ye may keepG5083[G5661] your ownG5216 traditionG3862. [9]And he said to them, `Well do ye put away the command of God that your tradition ye may keep;
[10]ForG1063 MosesG3475 saidG2036[G5627], HonourG5091[G5720] thyG4675 fatherG3962 andG2532 thyG4675 motherG3384; andG2532, Whoso cursethG2551[G5723] fatherG3962 orG2228 motherG3384, let him dieG5053[G5720] the deathG2288: [10]for Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death;
[11]ButG1161 yeG5210 sayG3004[G5719], IfG1437 a manG444 shall sayG2036[G5632] to his fatherG3962 orG2228 motherG3384, It is CorbanG2878, that is to sayG3603, a giftG1435, byG1537 whatsoeverG3739[G1437] thou mightest be profited byG5623[G5686] me; he shall be freeG1700. [11]and ye say, If a man may say to father or to mother, Korban (that is, a gift), [is] whatever thou mayest be profited out of mine,
[12]AndG2532 ye sufferG863[G5719] himG846 no moreG3765 to doG4160[G5658] oughtG3762 for hisG846 fatherG3962 orG2228 hisG846 motherG3384; [12]and no more do ye suffer him to do anything for his father or for his mother,
[13]MakingG208 the wordG3056 of GodG2316 of none effectG208[G5723] through yourG5216 traditionG3862, whichG3739 ye have deliveredG3860[G5656]: andG2532 manyG4183 suchG5108 like thingsG3946 do yeG4160.[G5719] [13]setting aside the word of God for your tradition that ye delivered; and many such like things ye do.'
[14]AndG2532 when he had calledG4341[G5666] allG3956 the peopleG3793 unto him, he saidG3004[G5707] unto themG846, HearkenG191[G5720] unto meG3450 every oneG3956 of you, andG2532 understandG4920:[G5720] [14]And having called near all the multitude, he said to them, `Hearken to me, ye all, and understand;
[15]There isG2076[G5748] nothingG3762 from withoutG1855 a manG444, thatG3739 enteringG1531[G5740] intoG1519 himG846 canG1410[G5736] defileG2840[G5658] himG846: butG235 the things which comeG1607[G5740] out ofG575 himG846, thoseG1565 are theyG2076[G5748] that defileG2840[G5723] the manG444. [15]there is nothing from without the man entering into him that is able to defile him, but the things coming out from him, those are the things defiling the man.
[16]If any manG1536 haveG2192[G5719] earsG3775 to hearG191[G5721], let him hearG191.[G5720] [16]If any hath ears to hear -- let him hear.'
[17]AndG2532 whenG3753 he was enteredG1525[G5627] intoG1519 the houseG3624 fromG575 the peopleG3793, hisG846 disciplesG3101 askedG1905[G5707] himG846 concerningG4012 the parableG3850. [17]And when he entered into a house from the multitude, his disciples were questioning him about the simile,
[18]AndG2532 he saithG3004[G5719] unto themG846, AreG2075[G5748] yeG5210 soG3779 without understandingG801 alsoG2532? Do yeG3539 notG3756 perceiveG3539[G5719], thatG3754 whatsoever thingG3956 from withoutG1855 enterethG1531[G5740] intoG1519 the manG444, it cannotG3756[G1410][G5736] defileG2840[G5658] himG846; [18]and he saith to them, `So also ye are without understanding! Do ye not perceive that nothing from without entering into the man is able to defile him?
[19]BecauseG3754 it enterethG1531[G5736] notG3756 intoG1519 hisG846 heartG2588, butG235 intoG1519 the bellyG2836, andG2532 goeth outG1607[G5736] intoG1519 the draughtG856, purgingG2511[G5723] allG3956 meatsG1033? [19]because it doth not enter into his heart, but into the belly, and into the drain it doth go out, purifying all the meats.'
[20]AndG1161 he saidG3004[G5707],[G3754] That which comethG1607[G5740] out ofG1537 the manG444, thatG1565 defilethG2840[G5719] the manG444. [20]And he said -- `That which is coming out from the man, that doth defile the man;
[21]ForG1063 from withinG2081, out ofG1537 the heartG2588 of menG444, proceedG1607[G5736] evilG2556 thoughtsG1261, adulteriesG3430, fornicationsG4202, murdersG5408, [21]for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders,
[22]TheftsG2829, covetousnessG4124, wickednessG4189, deceitG1388, lasciviousnessG766, an evilG4190 eyeG3788, blasphemyG988, prideG5243, foolishnessG877: [22]thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;
[23]AllG3956 theseG5023 evil thingsG4190 comeG1607[G5736] from withinG2081, andG2532 defileG2840[G5719] the manG444. [23]all these evils do come forth from within, and they defile the man.'
[24]AndG2532 from thenceG1564 he aroseG450[G5631], and wentG565[G5627] intoG1519 the bordersG3181 of TyreG5184 andG2532 SidonG4605, andG2532 enteredG1525[G5631] intoG1519 an houseG3614, and would haveG2309[G5707] no manG3762 knowG1097[G5629] it: butG2532 he couldG1410[G5675] notG3756 be hidG2990.[G5629] [24]And from thence having risen, he went away to the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and having entered into the house, he wished none to know, and he was not able to be hid,
[25]ForG1063 a certain womanG1135, whoseG3739[G846] young daughterG2365 hadG2192[G5707] an uncleanG169 spiritG4151, heardG191[G5660] ofG4012 himG846, and cameG2064[G5631] and fellG4363[G5627] atG4314 hisG846 feetG4228: [25]for a woman having heard about him, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having come, fell at his feet, --
[26][G1161]The womanG1135 wasG2258[G5713] a GreekG1674, a SyrophenicianG4949 by nationG1085; andG2532 she besoughtG2065[G5707] himG846 thatG2443 he would cast forthG1544[G5725] the devilG1140 out ofG1537 herG846 daughterG2364. [26]and the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phenician by nation -- and was asking him, that the demon he may cast forth out of her daughter.
[27]ButG1161 JesusG2424 saidG2036[G5627] unto herG846, LetG863[G5628] the childrenG5043 firstG4412 be filledG5526[G5683]: forG1063 it isG2076[G5748] notG3756 meetG2570 to takeG2983[G5629] the children'sG5043 breadG740, andG2532 to castG906[G5629] it unto the dogsG2952. [27]And Jesus said to her, `Suffer first the children to be filled, for it is not good to take the children's bread, and to cast [it] to the little dogs.'
[28]AndG1161 she answeredG611[G5662] andG2532 saidG3004[G5719] unto himG846, YesG3483, LordG2962: yetG2532[G1063] the dogsG2952 underG5270 the tableG5132 eatG2068[G5719] ofG575 the children'sG3813 crumbsG5589. [28]And she answered and saith to him, `Yes, sir; for the little dogs also under the table do eat of the children's crumbs.'
[29]AndG2532 he saidG2036[G5627] unto herG846, ForG1223 thisG5126 sayingG3056 go thy wayG5217[G5720]; the devilG1140 is goneG1831[G5758] out ofG1537 thyG4675 daughterG2364. [29]And he said to her, `Because of this word go; the demon hath gone forth out of thy daughter;'
[30]AndG2532 when she was comeG565[G5631] toG1519 herG846 houseG3624, she foundG2147[G5627] the devilG1140 gone outG1831[G5761], andG2532 her daughterG2364 laidG906[G5772] uponG1909 the bedG2825. [30]and having come away to her house, she found the demon gone forth, and the daughter laid upon the couch.
[31]AndG2532 againG3825, departingG1831[G5631] fromG1537 the coastsG3725 of TyreG5184 andG2532 SidonG4605, he cameG2064[G5627] untoG4314 the seaG2281 of GalileeG1056, throughG303 the midstG3319 of the coastsG3725 of DecapolisG1179. [31]And again, having gone forth from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis,
[32]AndG2532 they bringG5342[G5719] unto himG846 one that was deafG2974, and had an impediment in his speechG3424; andG2532 they beseechG3870[G5719] himG846 toG2443 putG2007[G5632] his handG5495 upon himG846. [32]and they bring to him a deaf, stuttering man, and they call on him that he may put the hand on him.
[33]AndG2532 he tookG618[G5642] himG846 asideG2596[G2398] fromG575 the multitudeG3793, and putG906[G5627] hisG846 fingersG1147 intoG1519 hisG846 earsG3775, andG2532 he spitG4429[G5660], and touchedG680[G5662] hisG846 tongueG1100; [33]And having taken him away from the multitude by himself, he put his fingers to his ears, and having spit, he touched his tongue,
[34]AndG2532 looking upG308[G5660] toG1519 heavenG3772, he sighedG4727[G5656], andG2532 saithG3004[G5719] unto himG846, EphphathaG2188, that isG3603, Be openedG1272.[G5682] [34]and having looked to the heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, `Ephphatha,' that is, `Be thou opened;'
[35]AndG2532 straightwayG2112 hisG846 earsG189 were openedG1272[G5681], andG2532 the stringG1199 of hisG846 tongueG1100 was loosedG3089[G5681], andG2532 he spakeG2980[G5707] plainG3723. [35]and immediately were his ears opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he was speaking plain.
[36]AndG2532 he chargedG1291[G5668] themG846 thatG2443 they should tellG2036[G5632] no manG3367: butG1161 the moreG3745 heG846 chargedG1291[G5710] themG846, so much the moreG3123 a great dealG4054 they publishedG2784 itG5707; [36]And he charged them that they may tell no one, but the more he was charging them, the more abundantly they were proclaiming [it],
[37]AndG2532 were beyond measureG5249 astonishedG1605[G5712], sayingG3004[G5723], He hath doneG4160[G5758] all thingsG3956 wellG2573: he makethG4160[G5719] bothG2532 the deafG2974 to hearG191[G5721], andG2532 the dumbG216 to speakG2980.[G5721] [37]and they were being beyond measure astonished, saying, `Well hath he done all things; both the deaf he doth make to hear, and the dumb to speak.'
