| [1]Καὶ συνάγονται πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καί τινες τῶν γραμματέων ἐλθόντες ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων |
[1]Then gathered unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the Scribes which came from Jerusalem. |
| [2]καὶ ἰδόντες τινὰς τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ⸂ὅτι κοιναῖς χερσίν, τοῦτʼ ἔστιν ἀνίπτοις, ἐσθίουσιν⸃ ⸀τοὺς ⸀ἄρτους— |
[2]And when they saw some of his disciples eat meat with common hands, (that is to say, unwashen) they complained. |
| [3]οἱ γὰρ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ πάντες οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἐὰν μὴ πυγμῇ νίψωνται τὰς χεῖρας οὐκ ἐσθίουσιν, κρατοῦντες τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, |
[3](For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the Elders. |
| [4]καὶ ἀπʼ ⸀ἀγορᾶς ἐὰν μὴ ⸀βαπτίσωνται οὐκ ἐσθίουσιν, καὶ ἄλλα πολλά ἐστιν ἃ παρέλαβον κρατεῖν, βαπτισμοὺς ποτηρίων καὶ ξεστῶν καὶ χαλκίων ⸂καὶ κλινῶν⸃— |
[4]And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not: and many other things there be, which they have taken upon them to observe, as the washing of cups, and pots, and of brazen vessels, and of tables.) |
| [5]⸀καὶ ἐπερωτῶσιν αὐτὸν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς· Διὰ τί ⸂οὐ περιπατοῦσιν οἱ μαθηταί σου⸃ κατὰ τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, ἀλλὰ ⸀κοιναῖς χερσὶν ἐσθίουσιν τὸν ἄρτον; |
[5]Then asked him the Pharisees and Scribes, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the Elders, but eat meat with unwashen hands? |
| [6]ὁ ⸀δὲ εἶπεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Καλῶς ἐπροφήτευσεν Ἠσαΐας περὶ ὑμῶν τῶν ὑποκριτῶν, ὡς γέγραπται ⸀ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ λαὸς τοῖς χείλεσίν με τιμᾷ, ἡ δὲ καρδία αὐτῶν πόρρω ἀπέχει ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ· |
[6]Then he answered and said unto them, Surely Isaiah hath prophesied well of you, hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me. |
| [7]μάτην δὲ σέβονταί με, διδάσκοντες διδασκαλίας ἐντάλματα ἀνθρώπων· |
[7]But they worship me in vain, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. |
| [8]⸀ἀφέντες τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ κρατεῖτε τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν ⸀ἀνθρώπων. |
[8]For ye lay the commandment of God apart, and observe the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and of cups, and many other such like things ye do. |
| [9]Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Καλῶς ἀθετεῖτε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ, ἵνα τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν ⸀τηρήσητε· |
[9]And he said unto them, Well, ye reject the commandment of God that ye may observe your own tradition. |
| [10]Μωϋσῆς γὰρ εἶπεν· Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα σου, καί· Ὁ κακολογῶν πατέρα ἢ μητέρα θανάτῳ τελευτάτω· |
[10]For Moses said, Honor thy father, and thy mother: and, Whosoever shall curse father or mother, let him die the death. |
| [11]ὑμεῖς δὲ λέγετε· Ἐὰν εἴπῃ ἄνθρωπος τῷ πατρὶ ἢ τῇ μητρί· Κορβᾶν, ὅ ἐστιν Δῶρον, ὃ ἐὰν ἐξ ἐμοῦ ὠφεληθῇς, |
[11]But ye say, If a man say to father or mother, Corban, that is, By the gift that is offered by me, thou mayest have profit, he shall be free. |
| [12]⸀οὐκέτι ἀφίετε αὐτὸν οὐδὲν ποιῆσαι τῷ ⸀πατρὶ ἢ τῇ ⸀μητρί, |
[12]So ye suffer him no more to do any thing for his father, or his mother, |
| [13]ἀκυροῦντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ τῇ παραδόσει ὑμῶν ᾗ παρεδώκατε· καὶ παρόμοια τοιαῦτα πολλὰ ποιεῖτε. |
[13]Making the word of God of none authority, by your tradition which ye have ordained: and ye do many such like things. |
| [14]Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος ⸀πάλιν τὸν ὄχλον ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· ⸀Ἀκούσατέ μου πάντες καὶ ⸀σύνετε. |
[14]Then he called the whole multitude unto him, and said unto them, Hearken you all unto me, and understand. |
| [15]οὐδέν ἐστιν ἔξωθεν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς αὐτὸν ὃ δύναται ⸂κοινῶσαι αὐτόν⸃· ἀλλὰ τὰ ⸂ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκπορευόμενά⸃ ἐστιν τὰ κοινοῦντα τὸν ⸀ἄνθρωπον. |
[15]There is nothing without a man, that can defile him, when it entereth into him: but the things which proceed out of him, are they which defile the man. |

[16]If any have ears to hear, let him hear. |
| [17]Καὶ ὅτε εἰσῆλθεν ⸀εἰς οἶκον ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου, ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂τὴν παραβολήν⸃. |
[17]And when he came into an house away from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. |
| [18]καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀσύνετοί ἐστε; οὐ νοεῖτε ὅτι πᾶν τὸ ἔξωθεν εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς τὸν ἄνθρωπον οὐ δύναται αὐτὸν κοινῶσαι, |
[18]And he said unto them, What? are ye without understanding also? Do ye not know that whatsoever thing from without entereth into a man, cannot defile him, |
| [19]ὅτι οὐκ εἰσπορεύεται αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ἀλλʼ εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν, καὶ εἰς τὸν ἀφεδρῶνα ἐκπορεύεται;— ⸀καθαρίζων πάντα τὰ βρώματα. |
[19]Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught which is the purging of all meats? |
| [20]ἔλεγεν δὲ ὅτι Τὸ ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκεῖνο κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον· |
[20]Then he said, That which cometh out of man, that defileth man. |
| [21]ἔσωθεν γὰρ ἐκ τῆς καρδίας τῶν ἀνθρώπων οἱ διαλογισμοὶ οἱ κακοὶ ἐκπορεύονται, ⸂πορνεῖαι, κλοπαί, φόνοι, |
[21]For from within, even out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, |
| [22]μοιχεῖαι⸃, πλεονεξίαι, πονηρίαι, δόλος, ἀσέλγεια, ὀφθαλμὸς πονηρός, βλασφημία, ὑπερηφανία, ἀφροσύνη· |
[22]Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, uncleanness, a wicked eye, backbiting, pride, foolishness. |
| [23]πάντα ταῦτα τὰ πονηρὰ ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται καὶ κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον. |
[23]All these evil things come from within, and defile a man. |
| [24]⸂Ἐκεῖθεν δὲ⸃ ἀναστὰς ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὰ ⸀ὅρια ⸀Τύρου. καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς οἰκίαν οὐδένα ἤθελεν γνῶναι, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθη λαθεῖν· |
[24]And from thence he rose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would that no man should have known: but he could not be hid. |
| [25]⸂ἀλλʼ εὐθὺς ἀκούσασα⸃ γυνὴ περὶ αὐτοῦ, ἧς εἶχεν τὸ θυγάτριον αὐτῆς πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον, ἐλθοῦσα προσέπεσεν πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ· |
[25]For a certain woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came, and fell at his feet, |
| [26]⸂ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἦν⸃ Ἑλληνίς, Συροφοινίκισσα τῷ γένει· καὶ ἠρώτα αὐτὸν ἵνα τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐκβάλῃ ἐκ τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτῆς. |
[26](And the woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation) and she besought him that he would cast out the devil out of her daughter. |
| [27]⸂καὶ ἔλεγεν⸃ αὐτῇ· Ἄφες πρῶτον χορτασθῆναι τὰ τέκνα, οὐ γὰρ ⸂καλόν ἐστιν⸃ λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ ⸂τοῖς κυναρίοις βαλεῖν⸃. |
[27]But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be fed: for it is not good to take the childrens bread, and to cast it unto whelps. |
| [28]ἡ δὲ ἀπεκρίθη καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· ⸀Κύριε, ⸀καὶ τὰ κυνάρια ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης ⸀ἐσθίουσιν ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν παιδίων. |
[28]Then she answered, and said unto him, Truth, Lord: yet in deed the whelps eat under the table of the childrens crumbs. |
| [29]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Διὰ τοῦτον τὸν λόγον ὕπαγε, ἐξελήλυθεν ⸂ἐκ τῆς θυγατρός σου τὸ δαιμόνιον⸃. |
[29]Then he said unto her, For this saying go thy way: the devil is gone out of thy daughter. |
| [30]καὶ ἀπελθοῦσα εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς εὗρεν τὸ ⸂παιδίον βεβλημένον ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην καὶ τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐξεληλυθός⸃. |
[30]And when she was come home to her house, she found the devil departed, and her daughter lying on the bed. |
| [31]Καὶ πάλιν ἐξελθὼν ἐκ τῶν ὁρίων Τύρου ⸂ἦλθεν διὰ Σιδῶνος εἰς⸃ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν ὁρίων Δεκαπόλεως. |
[31]And he departed again from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, and came unto the Sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. |
| [32]καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτῷ κωφὸν ⸀καὶ ⸀μογιλάλον, καὶ παρακαλοῦσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιθῇ αὐτῷ τὴν χεῖρα. |
[32]And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and stammered in his speech, and prayed him to put his hand upon him. |
| [33]καὶ ἀπολαβόμενος αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου κατʼ ἰδίαν ἔβαλεν τοὺς δακτύλους αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτοῦ καὶ πτύσας ἥψατο τῆς γλώσσης αὐτοῦ, |
[33]Then he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers in his ears, and did spit, and touched his tongue. |
| [34]καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἐστέναξεν, καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Εφφαθα, ὅ ἐστιν Διανοίχθητι· |
[34]And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. |
| [35]⸀καὶ ⸀ἠνοίγησαν αὐτοῦ αἱ ἀκοαί, καὶ ἐλύθη ὁ δεσμὸς τῆς γλώσσης αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλει ὀρθῶς· |
[35]And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. |
| [36]καὶ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ ⸀λέγωσιν· ὅσον δὲ ⸂αὐτοῖς διεστέλλετο, αὐτοὶ⸃ μᾶλλον περισσότερον ἐκήρυσσον. |
[36]And he commanded them, that they should tell no man: but how much so ever he forbad them, the more a great deal they published it, |
| [37]καὶ ὑπερπερισσῶς ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες· Καλῶς πάντα πεποίηκεν, καὶ τοὺς κωφοὺς ποιεῖ ἀκούειν ⸀καὶ ἀλάλους λαλεῖν. |
[37]And were beyond measure astonied, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak. |
