| [1]AND it was that when Jeshu had finished these words, he removed from Galila and came into the confines of Jehud beyond Jurdan. |
[1]והוא דכד שׁלמ ישׁוע מלא הלינ שׁקל מנ גלילא ואתא לתחומא דיהוד לעברא דיורדננ |
| [2]And great multitudes came after him, and he healed them there. |
[2]ואתו בתרה כנשׁא סגיאא ואסי אנונ תמנ |
| [3]And the Pharishee approached him, and, tempting him, propounded to him whether it was lawful for a man to send away his wife for every cause. |
[3]וקרבו לותה פרישׁא ומנסינ הוו לה ואמרינ אנ שׁליט לאנשׁ דנשׁרא אנתתה בכל עלא |
| [4]But he answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who created from the beginning, male and female hath made them? |
[4]הו דינ ענא ואמר להונ לא קריתונ דהו דעבד מנ ברשׁית דכרא ונקבתא עבד אנונ |
| [5]And he said, On this account a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. |
[5]ואמר מטל הנא נשׁבוק גברא לאבוהי ולאמה ונקפ לאנתתה ונהוונ תריהונ חד בסר |
| [6]Wherefore they were not [constituted] two, but one body. That, therefore, which Aloha hath conjoined, man shall not separate. |
[6]מדינ לא הוו תרינ אלא חד פגר מדמ הכיל דאלהא זוג ברנשׁא לא נפרשׁ |
| [7]They said to him, Why then did Musha direct that he should give a writing of dismissal and send her away? |
[7]אמרינ לה למנא הכיל מושׁא פקד דנתל כתבא דשׁובקנא ונשׁריה |
| [8]He said to them, Musha, on account of the hardness of your heart, permitted you to send away your wives; but from the beginning it was not so. |
[8]אמר להונ מושׁא לוקבל קשׁיות לבכונ אפס לכונ דתשׁרונ נשׁיכונ מנ ברשׁית דינ לא הוא הכנא |
| [9]And I say to you that whosoever shall forsake his wife who is not adulterous, and take another, committeth adultery; and whosoever taketh the deserted one, committeth adultery. |
[9]אמר אנא לכונ דינ דמנ דשׁבק אנתתה דלא גורא ונסב אחרתא גאר ומנ דנסב שׁביקתא גאר |
| [10]His disciples say to him, If thus be the case between the man and the woman, it is not expedient to take a wife. |
[10]אמרינ לה תלמידוהי אנ הכנא אית עדליא ביני גברא לאנתתא לא פקח למסב אנתתא |
| [11]But he said to them, Not every man is sufficient for this doctrine, but he to whom it is given. |
[11]הו דינ אמר להונ לא כלנשׁ ספק לה למלתא הדא אלא מנ דיהיב לה |
| [12]For there are some eunuchs who from their mother's womb are born so; and there are some eunuchs who by men are made eunuchs; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs on account of the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever is capable of receiving [this], let him receive [it]. |
[12]אית גיר מהימנא דמנ כרסא דאמהונ אתילדו הכנא ואית מהימנא דמנ בנינשׁא הוו מהימנא ואית מהימנא דהנונ עבדו נפשׁהונ מהימנא מטל מלכותא דשׁמיא מנ דמשׁכח דנספק נספק |
| [13]Then they brought to him children, that he should put his hand upon them and pray. And his disciples forbad them. |
[13]הידינ קרבו לה טליא דנסימ אידה עליהונ ונצלא וכאו בהונ תלמידוהי |
| [14]But Jeshu himself said, Suffer children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of those who are as these, is the kingdom of heaven. |
[14]הו דינ ישׁוע אמר להונ שׁבוקו טליא אתינ לותי ולא תכלונ אנונ דדאילינ גיר דאיכ הלינ אנונ איתיה מלכותא דשׁמיא |
| [15]And he put his hand upon them, and went thence. |
[15]וסמ אידה עליהונ ואזל מנ תמנ |
| [16]AND one came and approached and said to him, Good teacher, what of good shall I do, that I may have the life of eternity? |
[16]ואתא חד קרב ואמר לה מלפנא טבא מנא דטב אעבד דנהוונ לי חיא דלעלמ |
| [17]But he said to him, Why dost thou call me good? none is good but one, Aloha. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. |
[17]הו דינ אמר לה מנא קרא אנת לי טבא לית טבא אלא אנ חד אלהא אנ דינ צבא אנת דתעול לחיא טר פוקדנא |
| [18]He said to him, Which? Jeshu answered him, Thou shalt not kill, neither commit adultery, nor steal, neither shalt thou witness false testimony; |
[18]אמר לה אילינ הו דינ ישׁוע אמר לה דלא תקטול ולא תגור ולא תגנוב ולא תסהד סהדות שׁוקרא |
| [19]And honour thy father and thy mother, and love thy neighbour as thyself. |
[19]ויקר לאבוכ ולאמכ ותחב לקריבכ איכ נפשׁכ |
| [20]The young man saith to him, These all have I kept from my childhood: how am I deficient? |
[20]אמר לה הו עלימא הלינ כלהינ נטרת אנינ מנ טליותי מנא חסיר אנא |
| [21]Jeshu saith to him, If thou wilt become perfect, go, sell thy possession and give to the poor, and there shall be for thee a treasure in heaven: and come after me. |
[21]אמר לה ישׁוע אנ צבא אנת גמירא למהוא זל זבנ קנינכ והב למסכנא ותהוא לכ סימתא בשׁמיא ותא בתרי |
| [22]But he, the young man, heard this word, and went away with sadness, for he had great property. |
[22]שׁמע דינ הו עלימא מלתא הדא ואזל כד כריא לה אית הוא לה גיר קנינא סגיאא |
| [23]But Jeshu said to his disciples, Amen I say unto you, that it is difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. |
[23]ישׁוע דינ אמר לתלמידוהי אמינ אמר אנא לכונ דעטלא הי לעתירא דנעול למלכות שׁמיא |
| [24]Again I say to you, that it is easier for a camel to enter through the aperture of a needle, than the rich to enter into the kingdom of Aloha. |
[24]תוב דינ אמרנא לכונ דדליל הו לגמלא למעל בחרורא דמחטא או עתירא דנעול למלכותא דאלהא |
| [25]But the disciples when they heard were greatly hurt, saying, Who then can be saved? |
[25]תלמידא דינ כד שׁמעו תהירינ הוו טב ואמרינ מנו כי משׁכח דנחא |
| [26]Jeshu, beholding them, said, With the sons of men it is not possible; but with Aloha every thing is possible. |
[26]חר בהונ ישׁוע ואמר להונ לות בנינשׁא הדא לא משׁכחא לות אלהא דינ כלמדמ משׁכחא |
| [27]THEN answered Kipha and said to him, Behold, we have abandoned every thing, and have come after thee: what then shall there be for us? |
[27]הידינ ענא כאפא ואמר לה הא אנחננ שׁבקנ כלמדמ ואתינ בתרכ מנא כי נהוא לנ |
| [28]Jeshu saith to them, Amen I say to you, that you who have come after me, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit upon the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve seats, and shall judge the twelve tribes of Isroel. |
[28]אמר להונ ישׁוע אמינ אמר אנא לכונ דאנתונ דאתיתונ בתרי בעלמא חדתא מא דיתב ברה דאנשׁא על תרנוס דשׁובחה תתבונ אפ אנתונ על תרעסר כורסונ ותדונונ תרעסר שׁבטא דאיסראיל |
| [29]And every man who hath relinquished houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, on account of my name, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit the life of eternity. |
[29]וכלנשׁ דשׁבק בתא או אחא או אחותא או אבא או אמא או אנתתא או בניא או קוריא מטל שׁמי חד במאא נקבל וחיא דלעלמ נארת |
| [30]Many however are first who shall be last, and the last first. |
[30]סגיאא דינ קדמיא דנהוונ אחריא ואחריא קדמיא |
