| [1]Then Jesus conversed with the multitude and with his disciples, |
[1]הידינ ישׁוע מלל עמ כנשׁא ועמ תלמידוהי |
| [2]and said to them: The Scribes and Pharisees sit in the seat of Moses. |
[2]ואמר להונ על כורסיא דמושׁא יתבו ספרא ופרישׁא |
| [3]Whatever therefore they tell you to observe, that observe and do. But according to their deeds, practise ye not: for they say, and do not. |
[3]כל מדמ הכיל דנאמרונ לכונ דתטרונ טרו ועבדו איכ עבדיהונ דינ לא תעבדונ אמרינ גיר ולא עבדינ |
| [4]They tie up heavy burdens, and lay [them] on men's shoulders; but will not themselves touch them with their finger. |
[4]ואסרינ מובלא יקירתא וסימינ על כתפתא דבני אנשׁא הנונ דינ בצבעהונ לא צבינ דנקרבונ להינ |
| [5]And all their works they do, to be seen of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and extend the fringes of their garments. |
[5]וכלהונ עבדיהונ עבדינ דנתחזונ לבני אנשׁא מפתינ גיר תפליהונ ומורכינ תכלתא דמרטוטיהונ |
| [6]And they love the highest couches at suppers and the highest seats in the synagogues, |
[6]ורחמינ רשׁ סמכא בחשׁמיתא ורשׁ מותבא בכנושׁתא |
| [7]and the greeting in the market places, and to be addressed by men with Rabbi. |
[7]ושׁלמא בשׁוקא ודנהוונ מתקרינ מנ אנשׁא רבי |
| [8]But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your Rabbi, and ye are all brethren. |
[8]אנתונ דינ לא תתקרונ רבי חד הו גיר רבכונ אנתונ דינ כלכונ אחא אנתונ |
| [9]And ye shall not call yourselves Father on earth; for one is your Father, who is in heaven. |
[9]ואבא לא תקרונ לכונ בארעא חד הו גיר אבוכונ דבשׁמיא |
| [10]And be ye not called guides; for one is your Guide, the Messiah. |
[10]ולא תתקרונ מדברנא מטל דחד הו מדברנכונ משׁיחא |
| [11]And the great one among you will be your servitor. |
[11]הו דינ דרב בכונ נהוא לכונ משׁמשׁנא |
| [12]For whoever shall] exalt himself, will be abased: and whoever shall abase himself, will be exalted. |
[12]מנ גיר דנרימ נפשׁה נתמככ ומנ דנמכ נפשׁה נתתרימ |
| [13]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye devour the houses of widows, under the disguise of protracting your prayers. Therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation. |
[13]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דאכלינ אנתונ בתא דארמלתא בעלתא דמורכינ אנתונ צלותכונ מטל הנא תקבלונ דינא יתירא |
| [14]Woe to you. Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye hold the kingdom of heaven closed before men; for ye enter not yourselves, and those that would enter ye suffer not to enter. |
[14]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דאחידינ אנתונ מלכותא דשׁמיא קדמ בני אנשׁא אנתונ גיר לא עאלינ אנתונ ולאילינ דעאלינ לא שׁבקינ אנתונ למעל |
| [15]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye traverse sea and land to make one proselyte ; and when he is gained, ye make him a child of hell twofold more than yourselves. |
[15]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דמתכרכינ אנתונ ימא ויבשׁא דתעבדונ חד גיורא ומא דהוא עבדינ אנתונ לה ברה דגהנא אעפא עליכונ |
| [16]Woe to you, ye blind guides: for ye say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold that is in the temple, he is holden. |
[16]וי לכונ נגודא סמיא דאמרינ אנתונ דמנ דימא בהיכלא לא הוא מדמ מנ דינ דימא בדהבא דבהיכלא חאב |
| [17]Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? |
[17]סכלא וסמיא מנא גיר רב דהבא או היכלא דהו מקדשׁ לה לדהבא |
| [18]And, whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: but whoever shall swear by the oblation upon it, he is holden. |
[18]ומנ דימא במדבחא לא הוא מדמ מנ דינ דימא בקורבנא דלעל מנה חאב |
| [19]Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the oblation, or the altar that sanctifieth the oblation? |
[19]סכלא ועוירא מנא רב קורבנא או מדבחא דמקדשׁ לקורבנא |
| [20]He therefore who sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all that is upon it. |
[20]מנ דימא הכיל במדבחא ימא בה ובכל מא דאית לעל מנה |
| [21]And he who sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it. |
[21]ומנ דימא בהיכלא ימא בה ובמנ דעמר בה |
| [22]And he who sweareth by heaven, sweareth by throne of God, and by him that sitteth on it. |
[22]ומנ דימא בשׁמיא ימא בכורסיה דאלהא ובמנ דיתב לעל מנה |
| [23]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye tithe mint, and anise, and cummin, and omit the graver [matters] of the law, judgment, and mercy, and fidelity: these ought ye to do, and those not to omit. |
[23]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דמעסרינ אנתונ ננעא ושׁבתא וכמונא ושׁבקתונ יקירתה דנמוסא דינא וחננא והימנותא הלינ דינ ולא הוא דתעבדונ והלינ לא תשׁבקונ |
| [24]Ye blind guides, who strain out gnats, and swallow down camels. |
[24]נגודא סמיא דמצללינ בקא ובלעינ גמלא |
| [25]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, while within they are full of rapine and wickedness. |
[25]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דמדכינ אנתונ ברה דכסא ודזבורא לגו דינ מלינ חטופיא ועולא |
| [26]Ye blind Pharisees, cleanse first the inside of the cup and dish, that their outside may be clean also. |
[26]פרישׁא עוירא דכו לוקדמ גוה דכסא ודזבורא דהוא אפ ברהונ דכא |
| [27]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear comely without, but are within full of bones of the dead and all impurity. |
[27]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דדמינ אנתונ לקברא מכלשׁא דמנ לבר מתחזינ שׁפירא מנ לגו דינ מלינ גרמא דמיתא וכלה טנפותא |
| [28]So ye also, outwardly, appear to men as righteous; but within, ye are full of iniquity and hypocrisy. |
[28]הכנא אפ אנתונ מנ לבר מתחזינ אנתונ לבני אנשׁא איכ זדיקא ומנ לגו מלינ אנתונ עולא ומסב באפא |
| [29]Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye build the tombs of the prophets and ye adorn the sepulchres of the righteous; |
[29]וי לכונ ספרא ופרישׁא נסבי באפא דבנינ אנתונ קברא דנביא ומצבתינ אנתונ בית קבורא דזדיקא |
| [30]and ye say: If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been participators with them in the blood of the prophets. |
[30]ואמרינ אנתונ דאלו הוינ ביומי אבהינ לא הוינ הוינ להונ שׁותפא בדמא דנביא |
| [31]Wherefore ye are witnesses, against yourselves, that ye are the children of them that killed the prophets. |
[31]מדינ מסהדינ אנתונ על נפשׁכונ דבניא אנתונ דהנונ דקטלו לנביא |
| [32]And as for you, fill ye up the measure of your fathers. |
[32]ואפ אנתונ מלו משׁוחתא דאבהיכונ |
| [33]Ye serpents, ye race of vipers: how can ye escape the condemnation of hell? |
[33]חוותא ילדא דאכדנא איכנא תערקונ מנ דינא דגהנא |
| [34]Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; some of whom ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and will persecute them from city to city: |
[34]מטל הנא הא אנא משׁדר אנא לותכונ נביא וחכימא וספרא מנהונ קטלינ אנתונ וזקפינ אנתונ ומנהונ מנגדינ אנתונ בכנושׁתכונ ותרדפונ אנונ מנ מדינא למדינא |
| [35]so that on you may come all the blood of the righteous, which hath been shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. |
[35]איכנא דנאתא עליכונ כלה דמא דזדיקא דאתאשׁד על ארעא מנ דמה דהביל זדיקא ועדמא לדמה דזכריא בר ברכיא הו דקטלתונ ביני היכלא למדבחא |
| [36]Verily I say to you, that all these things will come upon this generation. |
[36]אמינ אמר אנא לכונ דנאתינ הלינ כלהינ על שׁרבתא הדא |
| [37]O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her young under her wings, and ye would not. |
[37]אורשׁלמ אורשׁלמ קטלת נביא ורגמת לאילינ דשׁליחינ לותה כמא זבנינ צבית דאכנשׁ בניכי איכ דכנשׁא תרנגולתא פרוגיה תחית גפיה ולא צביתונ |
| [38]Behold, your house is left to you desolate ! |
[38]הא משׁתבק לכונ ביתכונ חרבא |
| [39]For I say to you, That ye shall not see me henceforth, until ye shall say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. |
[39]אמרנא לכונ גיר דלא תחזונני מנ השׁא עדמא דתאמרונ בריכ הו דאתא בשׁמה דמריא |
