| [1]ויקם אלישיב הכהן הגדול ואחיו הכהנים ויבנו את שער הצאן־המה קדשוהו ויעמידו דלתתיו ועד מגדל המאה קדשוהו עד מגדל חננאל |
[1]Then arose Eliashib the high priest with his brethren the priests, and they built the sheep gate: they repaired it, and set up the doors thereof: even unto the tower of Meah repaired they it, and unto the tower of Hananel. |
| [2]ועל ידו בנו אנשי ירחו ועל ידו בנה זכור בן אמרי |
[2]And next unto him builded the men of Jericho, and beside him Zaccur the son of Imri. |
| [3]ואת שער הדגים בנו בני הסנאה המה קרוהו־ויעמידו דלתתיו מנעוליו ובריחיו |
[3]But the fish port did the sons of Hassenaah build, which also laid the beams thereof, and set on the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. |
| [4]ועל ידם החזיק מרמות בן אוריה בן הקוץ ועל ידם החזיק משלם בן ברכיה בן משיזבאל ועל ידם החזיק צדוק בן בענא |
[4]And next unto them fortified Meremoth, the son of Urijah, the son of Hakkoz: and next unto them fortified Meshullam, the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel: and next unto them fortified Zadok, the son of Baana: |
| [5]ועל ידם החזיקו התקועים ואדיריהם לא הביאו צורם בעבדת אדניהם |
[5]And next unto them fortified the Tekoites: but the great men of them put not their necks to the work of their lords. |
| [6]ואת שער הישנה החזיקו יוידע בן פסח ומשלם בן בסודיה המה קרוהו־ויעמידו דלתתיו ומנעליו ובריחיו |
[6]And the gate of the old fish pool fortified Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah: they laid the beams thereof, and set on the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. |
| [7]ועל ידם החזיק מלטיה הגבעני וידון המרנתי אנשי גבעון והמצפה־לכסא פחת עבר הנהר |
[7]Next unto them also fortified Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, unto the throne of the duke, which was beyond the river. |
| [8]על ידו החזיק עזיאל בן חרהיה צורפים ועל ידו החזיק חנניה בן הרקחים ויעזבו ירושלם עד החומה הרחבה |
[8]Next unto him fortified Uzziel the son of Harhaiah of the goldsmiths: next unto him also fortified Hananiah, the son of Harakkahim, and they repaired Jerusalem unto the broad wall. |
| [9]ועל ידם החזיק רפיה בן חור שר חצי פלך ירושלם |
[9]Also next unto them fortified Rephaiah, the son of Hur, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem. |
| [10]ועל ידם החזיק ידיה בן חרומף ונגד ביתו ועל ידו החזיק חטוש בן חשבניה |
[10]And next unto him fortified Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, even over against his house: and next unto him fortified Hattush, the son of Hashabniah. |
| [11]מדה שנית החזיק מלכיה בן חרם וחשוב בן פחת מואב ואת מגדל התנורים |
[11]Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hasshub the son of Pahath-Moab fortified the second portion, and the tower of the furnaces. |
| [12]ועל ידו החזיק שלום בן הלוחש שר חצי פלך ירושלם הוא ובנותיו |
[12]Next unto him also fortified Shallum, the son of Hallohesh, the ruler of the half part of Jerusalem, he, and his daughters. |
| [13]את שער הגיא החזיק חנון וישבי זנוח־המה בנוהו ויעמידו דלתתיו מנעליו ובריחיו ואלף אמה בחומה עד שער השפות |
[13]The valley gate fortified Hanum, and the inhabitants of Zanah: they built it, and set on the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, even a thousand cubits on the wall unto the dung port. |
| [14]ואת שער האשפות החזיק מלכיה בן רכב שר פלך בית הכרם הוא יבננו־ויעמיד דלתתיו מנעליו ובריחיו |
[14]But the dung port fortified Malchiah, the son of Rechab, the ruler of the fourth part of Beth-haccarem: he built it, and set on the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. |
| [15]ואת שער העין החזיק שלון בן כל חזה שר פלך המצפה־הוא יבננו ויטללנו ויעמידו [Q: ויעמיד] דלתתיו מנעליו ובריחיו ואת חומת ברכת השלח לגן המלך ועד המעלות היורדות מעיר דויד |
[15]But the gate of the fountain fortified Shallun, the son of Col-hozeh, the ruler of the fourth part of Mizpah: he builded it, and covered it, and set on the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall unto the fish pool of Siloah by the king's garden, and unto the steps that go down from the city of David. |
| [16]אחריו החזיק נחמיה בן עזבוק שר חצי פלך בית צור־עד נגד קברי דויד ועד הברכה העשויה ועד בית הגברים |
[16]After him fortified Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Beth-zur, until the other side over against the sepulchres of David, and to the fish pool that was repaired, and unto the house of the mighty. |
| [17]אחריו החזיקו הלוים רחום בן בני על ידו החזיק חשביה שר חצי פלך קעילה־לפלכו |
[17]After him fortified the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani, and next unto him fortified Hashabiah the ruler of the half part of Keilah in his quarter. |
| [18]אחריו החזיקו אחיהם בוי בן חנדד שר חצי פלך קעילה |
[18]After him fortified their brethren: Bavai, the son of Henadad the ruler of the half part of Keilah: |
| [19]ויחזק על ידו עזר בן ישוע שר המצפה־מדה שנית מנגד עלת הנשק המקצע |
[19]And next unto him fortified Ezer, the son of Jeshua the ruler of Mizpah, the other portion over against the going up to the corner of the armor. |
| [20]אחריו החרה החזיק ברוך בן זבי [Q: זכי] מדה שנית מן המקצוע־עד פתח בית אלישיב הכהן הגדול |
[20]After him was earnest Baruch the son of Zacchai [Zabbai], and fortified another portion from the corner unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest. |
| [21]אחריו החזיק מרמות בן אוריה בן הקוץ־מדה שנית מפתח בית אלישיב ועד תכלית בית אלישיב |
[21]After him fortified Meremoth, the son of Urijah, the son of Hakkoz, another portion from the door of the house of Eliashib, even as long as the house of Eliashib extended. |
| [22]ואחריו החזיקו הכהנים אנשי הככר |
[22]After him also fortified the priests, the men of the plain. |
| [23]אחריו החזיק בנימן וחשוב נגד ביתם אחריו החזיק עזריה בן מעשיה בן ענניה־אצל ביתו |
[23]After them fortified Benjamin, and Hasshub over against their house: after him fortified Azariah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, by his house. |
| [24]אחריו החזיק בנוי בן חנדד־מדה שנית מבית עזריה עד המקצוע ועד הפנה |
[24]After him fortified Binnui, the son of Henadad another portion, from the house of Azariah unto the turning and unto the corner. |
| [25]פלל בן אוזי מנגד המקצוע והמגדל היוצא מבית המלך העליון אשר לחצר המטרה אחריו פדיה בן פרעש |
[25]Palal, the son of Uzai, from over against the corner, and the high tower, that lieth out from the king's house, which is beside the court of the prison. After him, Pedaiah, the son of Parosh. |
| [26]והנתינים־היו ישבים בעפל עד נגד שער המים למזרח והמגדל היוצא |
[26]And the Nethinims they dwelt in the fortress unto the place over against the water gate, eastward, and to the tower that lieth out. |
| [27]אחריו החזיקו התקעים מדה שנית מנגד המגדל הגדול היוצא ועד חומת העפל |
[27]After him fortified the Tekoites another portion over against the great tower, that lieth out, even unto the wall of the fortress. |
| [28]מעל שער הסוסים החזיקו הכהנים־איש לנגד ביתו |
[28]From above the horse gate forth fortified the priests, every one over against his house. |
| [29]אחריו החזיק צדוק בן אמר נגד ביתו ואחריו החזיק שמעיה בן שכניה שמר שער המזרח |
[29]After them fortified Zadok the son of Immer over against his house: and after him fortified Shemaiah, the son of Shecaniah the keeper of the east gate. |
| [30]אחרי [Q: אחריו] החזיק חנניה בן שלמיה וחנון בן צלף הששי־מדה שני אחריו החזיק משלם בן ברכיה־נגד נשכתו |
[30]After him fortified Hananiah, the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the son of Zalaph, the sixth, another portion: after him fortified Meshullam, the son of Berechiah, over against his chamber. |
| [31]אחרי [Q: אחריו] החזיק מלכיה בן הצרפי־עד בית הנתינים והרכלים נגד שער המפקד ועד עלית הפנה |
[31]After him fortified Malchiah the goldsmith's son, until the house of the Nethinims, and of the merchants over against the gate Miphkad, and to the chamber in the corner. |
| [32]ובין עלית הפנה לשער הצאן החזיקו הצרפים והרכלים |
[32]And between the chamber of the corner unto the sheep gate fortified the goldsmiths and the merchants. |
| [33]ויהי כאשר שמע סנבלט כי אנחנו בונים את החומה ויחר לו ויכעס הרבה וילעג על היהודים |

| [34]ויאמר לפני אחיו וחיל שמרון ויאמר מה היהודים האמללים עשים היעזבו להם היזבחו היכלו ביום היחיו את האבנים מערמות העפר והמה שרופות |

| [35]וטוביה העמני אצלו ויאמר גם אשר הם בונים־אם יעלה שועל ופרץ חומת אבניהם |

| [36]שמע אלהינו כי היינו בוזה והשב חרפתם אל ראשם ותנם לבזה בארץ שביה |

| [37]ואל תכס על עונם וחטאתם מלפניך אל תמחה כי הכעיסו לנגד הבונים |

| [38]ונבנה את החומה ותקשר כל החומה עד חציה ויהי לב לעם לעשות |
