Bishop
[1]A wise son is obedient to his father: but a disobedient son will be destroyed. [1]A wise sonne [wil hearken] to his fathers warnyng: but he that is scorneful wil not heare when he is reproued
[2]A good man shall eat of the fruits of righteousness: but the lives of transgressors shall perish before their time. [2]Of the fruite of a wise mans mouth shall eche man eate good thynges: but the wicked shall eate of the fruite of the transgressours
[3]He that keeps his own mouth keeps his own life: but he that is hasty with his lips shall bring terror upon himself. [3]He that kepeth his mouth, kepeth his lyfe: but who so rashlye openeth his lippes, destroyeth hym selfe
[4]Every slothful man desires, but the hands of the active are diligent. [4]The sluggarde woulde fayne haue and can not get [his desire:] but the soule of the diligent shall haue plentie
[5]A righteous man hates an unjust word: but an ungodly man is ashamed, and will have no confidence. [5]A ryghteous man abhorreth lyes: but the vngodly shameth hym selfe, and is put to scilence
6[No verse] [6]Ryghteousnesse kepeth the innocent in the way: but vngodlinesse doth ouerthrowe the sinner
[7]There are some who, having nothing, enrich themselves: and there are some who bring themselves down in the midst of much wealth. [7]Some men make them selues riche though they haue nothyng: agayne, some make them selues poore hauyng great riches
[8]A man's own wealth is the ransom of his life: but the poor endures not threatening. [8]With goodes a man redeemeth his life: and the poore wyll not be reproued
[9]The righteous always have light: but the light of the ungodly is quenched. Crafty souls go astray in sins: but just men pity, and are merciful. [9]The lyght of the ryghteous maketh ioyfull: but the candell of the vngodly shalbe put out
[10]A bad man does evil with insolence: but they that are judges of themselves are wise. [10]Among the proude there is euer strife: but with the well aduised is wisdome
[11]Wealth gotten hastily with iniquity is diminished: but he that gathers for himself with godliness shall be increased. The righteous is merciful, and lends. [11]Uaynly gotten goodes are soone spent: but they that be gathered together with the hande, shall encrease
[12]Better is he that begins to help heartily, than he that promises and leads another to hope: for a good desire is a tree of life. [12]Hope deferred greeueth the heart: but whe the desire cometh, it is a tree of life
[13]He that slights a matter shall be slighted of it: but he that fears the commandment has health of soul. To a crafty son there shall be nothing good: but a wise servant shall have prosperous doings, and his way shall be directed aright. [13]Who so dispiseth the worde, shall perishe for the same: but he that feareth the commaundement, shall haue the rewarde
[14]The law of the wise is fountain of life: but the man void of understanding shall die by a snare. [14]The lawe of the wise is a well of life, to auoyde from the snares of death
[15]Sound discretion gives favour, and to know the law is the part of a sound understanding: but the ways of scorners tend to destruction. [15]Good vnderstandyng geueth fauour: but harde is the way of the dispisers
[16]Every prudent man acts with knowledge: but the fool displays his own mischief. [16]A wise man doth all thynges with discretion: but a foole wyll declare his follie
[17]A rash king shall fall into mischief: but a wise messenger shall deliver him. [17]An vngodly messenger falleth into mischiefe: but a faythfull embassadour is as health
[18]Instruction removes poverty and disgrace: but he that attends to reproofs shall be honoured. [18]He that thinketh scorne to be refourmed, commeth to pouertie and shame: but who so regardeth correction, shall come to honour
[19]The desires of the godly gladden the soul, but the works of the ungodly are far from knowledge. [19]When a desire is brought to passe, it deliteth the soule: but fooles count it abhomination to depart from euyll
[20]If thou walkest with wise men thou shalt be wise: but he that walks with fools shall be known. [20]He that goeth in the companie of wise men, shalbe wise: but who so is a companion of fooles, shalbe afflicted
[21]Evil shall pursue sinners; but good shall overtake the righteous. [21]Mischiefe foloweth vpon sinners: but the righteous shal haue a good reward
[22]A good man shall inherit children's children; and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just. [22]He that is vertuous leaueth an heritaunce vnto his childers children, & the riches of ye sinner is layde vp for the iust
[23]The righteous shall spend many years in wealth: but the unrighteous shall perish suddenly. [23]There is plenteousnesse of foode in the fieldes of the poore: but the fielde not well ordered, is without fruite
[24]He that spares the rod hates his son: but he that loves, carefully chastens him. [24]He that spareth the rodde, hateth his sonne: but who so loueth hym, chasteneth hym betymes
[25]A just man eats and satisfies his soul: but the souls of the ungodly are in want. [25]The righteous eateth and is satisfied: but the belly of the vngodly hath neuer enough
