[1]My sonH1121, forgetH7911[H8799] not my lawH8451; but let thine heartH3820 keepH5341[H8799] my commandmentsH4687: [1]My son, forget not thou my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments.
[2]For lengthH753 of daysH3117, and longH8141 lifeH2416, and peaceH7965, shall they addH3254 to theeH8686. [2]For they shall increase the length of thy days and the years of life, and thy prosperity.
[3]Let not mercyH2617 and truthH571 forsakeH5800[H8799] thee: bindH7194[H8798] them about thy neckH1621; writeH3789[H8798] them upon the tableH3871 of thine heartH3820: [3]Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them on thy neck, and write them upon the table of thine heart.
[4]So shalt thou findH4672[H8798] favourH2580 and goodH2896 understandingH7922 in the sightH5869 of GodH430 and manH120. [4]So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
[5]TrustH982[H8798] in the LORDH3068 with all thine heartH3820; and leanH8172[H8735] not unto thine own understandingH998. [5]Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own wisdom.
[6]In all thy waysH1870 acknowledgeH3045[H8798] him, and he shall directH3474[H8762] thy pathsH734. [6]In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy ways.
[7]Be not wiseH2450 in thine own eyesH5869: fearH3372[H8798] the LORDH3068, and departH5493[H8798] from evilH7451. [7]Be not wise in thine own eyes: but fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
[8]It shall be healthH7500 to thy navelH8270, and marrowH8250 to thy bonesH6106. [8]So health shall be unto thy navel, and marrow unto thy bones.
[9]HonourH3513[H8761] the LORDH3068 with thy substanceH1952, and with the firstfruitsH7225 of all thine increaseH8393: [9]Honor the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruits of all thine increase.
[10]So shall thy barnsH618 be filledH4390[H8735] with plentyH7647, and thy pressesH3342 shall burst outH6555[H8799] with new wineH8492. [10]So shall thy barns be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with new wine.
[11]My sonH1121, despiseH3988[H8799] not the chasteningH4148 of the LORDH3068; neither be wearyH6973[H8799] of his correctionH8433: [11]My son, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieved with his correction.
[12]For whom the LORDH3068 lovethH157[H8799] he correctethH3198[H8686]; even as a fatherH1 the sonH1121 in whom he delightethH7521.[H8799] [12]For the Lord correcteth him, whom he loveth, even as the father doth the child in whom he delighteth.
[13]HappyH835 is the manH120 that findethH4672[H8804] wisdomH2451, and the manH120 that gettethH6329[H8686] understandingH8394. [13]Blessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
[14]For the merchandiseH5504 of it is betterH2896 than the merchandiseH5505 of silverH3701, and the gainH8393 thereof than fine goldH2742. [14]For the merchandise thereof is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof is better than gold.
[15]She is more preciousH3368 than rubiesH6443: and all the things thou canst desireH2656 are not to be comparedH7737 unto herH8799. [15]It is more precious than pearls: and all things that thou canst desire, are not to be compared unto her.
[16]LengthH753 of daysH3117 is in her right handH3225; and in her left handH8040 richesH6239 and honourH3519. [16]Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.
[17]Her waysH1870 are waysH1870 of pleasantnessH5278, and all her pathsH5410 are peaceH7965. [17]Her ways are ways of pleasure, and all her paths prosperity.
[18]She is a treeH6086 of lifeH2416 to them that lay holdH2388[H8688] upon her: and happyH833[H8794] is every one that retainethH8551 herH8802. [18]She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her, and blessed is he that retaineth her.
[19]The LORDH3068 by wisdomH2451 hath foundedH3245[H8804] the earthH776; by understandingH8394 hath he establishedH3559[H8790] the heavensH8064. [19]The Lord by wisdom hath laid the foundation of the earth, and hath stablished the heavens through understanding.
[20]By his knowledgeH1847 the depthsH8415 are broken upH1234[H8738], and the cloudsH7834 drop downH7491[H8799] the dewH2919. [20]By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
[21]My sonH1121, let not them departH3868[H8799] from thine eyesH5869: keepH5341[H8798] sound wisdomH8454 and discretionH4209: [21]My son, let not these things depart from thine eyes, but observe wisdom, and counsel.
[22]So shall they be lifeH2416 unto thy soulH5315, and graceH2580 to thy neckH1621. [22]So they shall be life to thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.
[23]Then shalt thou walkH3212[H8799] in thy wayH1870 safelyH983, and thy footH7272 shall not stumbleH5062.[H8799] [23]Then shalt thou walk safely by thy way: and thy foot shall not stumble.
[24]When thou liest downH7901[H8799], thou shalt not be afraidH6342[H8799]: yea, thou shalt lie downH7901[H8804], and thy sleepH8142 shall be sweetH6149.[H8804] [24]If thou sleepest, thou shalt not be afraid, and when thou sleepest, thy sleep shall be sweet.
[25]Be not afraidH3372[H8799] of suddenH6597 fearH6343, neither of the desolationH7722 of the wickedH7563, when it comethH935.[H8799] [25]Thou shalt not fear for any sudden fear, neither for the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh.
[26]For the LORDH3068 shall be thy confidenceH3689, and shall keepH8104[H8804] thy footH7272 from being takenH3921. [26]For the Lord shall be for thine assurance, and shall preserve thy foot from taking.
[27]WithholdH4513[H8799] not goodH2896 from them to whom it is dueH1167, when it is in the powerH410 of thine handH3027 to doH6213 itH8800. [27]Withhold not the good from the owners thereof, though there be power in thine hand to do it.
[28]SayH559[H8799] not unto thy neighbourH7453, GoH3212[H8798], and come againH7725[H8798], and to morrowH4279 I will giveH5414[H8799]; when thou hast it by theeH3426. [28]Say not unto thy neighbor, Go and come again, and tomorrow will I give thee, if thou now have it.
[29]DeviseH2790[H8799] not evilH7451 against thy neighbourH7453, seeing he dwellethH3427[H8802] securely by theeH983. [29]Intend none hurt against thy neighbor, seeing he doth dwell without fear by thee.
[30]StriveH7378[H8799] not with a manH120 without causeH2600, if he have doneH1580[H8804] thee no harmH7451. [30]Strive not with a man causeless, when he hath done thee no harm.
[31]EnvyH7065[H8762] thou not the oppressorH376[H2555], and chooseH977[H8799] none of his waysH1870. [31]Be not envious for the wicked man, neither choose any of his ways.
[32]For the frowardH3868[H8737] is abominationH8441 to the LORDH3068: but his secretH5475 is with the righteousH3477. [32]For the froward is abomination unto the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.
[33]The curseH3994 of the LORDH3068 is in the houseH1004 of the wickedH7563: but he blessethH1288[H8762] the habitationH5116 of the justH6662. [33]The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
[34]Surely he scornethH3887[H8686] the scornersH3887[H8801]: but he givethH5414[H8799] graceH2580 unto the lowlyH6035[H8675].[H6041] [34]With the scornful he scorneth, but he giveth grace unto the humble.
[35]The wiseH2450 shall inheritH5157[H8799] gloryH3519: but shameH7036 shall be the promotionH7311[H8688] of foolsH3684. [35]The wise shall inherit glory: but fools dishonor, though they be exalted.
