[1]O GIVE thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever. |

[2]Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, |

[3]And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the islands in the sea. |

[4]They were lost in the wilderness in a place without water; they found not the right way to an inhabited town. |
[No book] |
[5]Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. |
[No book] |
[6]Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses, |

[7]And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to inhabited villages. |
[No book] |
[8]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men! |

[9]For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness, |
[No book] |
[10]Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; |
[No book] |
[11]Because they murmured against the words of God, and scorned the counsel of the most High; |
[No book] |
[12]Therefore he brought down their hearts with labor; they became weak and there was none to help. |

[13]Then they prayed to the LORD in their trouble and he saved them out of their distresses. |
[No book] |
[14]He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder. |

[15]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men. |

[16]For he has broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron asunder. |

[17]He helped them out of the way of their sins, he relieved them of their afflictions. |

[18]Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. |

[19]Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. |

[20]He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from destruction. |
[No book] |
[21]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him, for his mercies are upon the children of men! |

[22]Sacrifice to him the sacrifices of praise, and glorify him, O you, his servants, for his wonders. |

[23]They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, |
[No book] |
[24]These see the works of the LORD and his wonders in the deep. |
[No book] |
[25]For he commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof. |
[No book] |
[26]They mount up to the sky; then they go down again to the depths; their soul is troubled within them. |
[No book] |
[27]They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end. |
[No book] |
[28]Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble and he brings them out of their distresses. |
[No book] |
[29]He makes the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. |
[No book] |
[30]Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he brings them to their desired haven. |
[No book] |
[31]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men. |

[32]Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. |
[No book] |
[33]He turns rivers into a wilderness and the water-springs into dry ground, |
[No book] |
[34]A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. |
[No book] |
[35]He turns the wilderness into pools of water and dry land into watersprings. |
[No book] |
[36]And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may build villages and settle, |
[No book] |
[37]And sow the fields and plant vineyards, and eat of the fruits thereof. |
[No book] |
[38]He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffers not their cattle to decrease. |
[No book] |
[39]Again, they are diminished and humbled through oppression, affliction, and misery. |
[No book] |
[40]He pours contempt upon rulers, and causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way. |
[No book] |
[41]He strengthens the poor and he multiplies their families like a flock. |
[No book] |
[42]The righteous shall see it, and rejoice; and all the ungodly shall shut their mouths. |

[43]Whosoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. |
