Pes(Lam)
[[A Psalm Chapter of David.]]
[1]Plead thou my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight thou against them, that fight against me. [1]PLEAD my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me; fight against them that fight against me.
[2]Lay hand upon the shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. [2]Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.
[3]Bring out also the spear and stop the way against them, that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. [3]Draw out the sword and flash it against them that persecute me; say unto my soul. I am your Saviour.
[4]Let them be confounded and put to shame, that seek after my soul: let them be turned back, and brought to confusion, that imagine mine hurt. [4]Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul; let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise evil against me.
[5]Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of the Lord scatter them. [5]Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
[6]Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them. [6]Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
[7]For without cause they have hid the pit and their net for me: without cause have they digged a pit for my soul. [7]For they have dug pits for me and have spread a snare for my soul.
[8]Let destruction come upon him at unawares, and let his net, that he hath laid privily, take him: let him fall into the same destruction. [8]Let evil come upon them unawares; and let the net that they have hidden trap them; into that very pit which they have dug let them fall.
[9]Then my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation. [9]My soul shall be joyful in God; it shall rejoice in his salvation.
[10]All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him, that is too strong for him! Yea, the poor and him that is in misery, from him that spoileth him! [10]All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the poor from his enemies, yea, the poor and the needy from him that seizes his property by force?
[11]Cruel witnesses did rise up: they asked of me things that I knew not. [11]False witnesses rose up; they charged me with things that I knew not.
[12]They rewarded me evil for good, to have spoiled my soul. [12]They rewarded me evil for good, and they destroyed my reputation among men.
[13]Yet I, when they were sick, I was clothed with a sack: I humbled my soul with fasting: and my prayer was turned upon my bosom. [13]But as for me, when they were sick, I wore sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into my own bosom.
[14]I behaved myself as to my friend, or as to my brother: I humbled myself, mourning as one that bewaileth his mother. [14]I behaved myself as though they had been my friends and brothers; I bowed down heavily, as one miserable in deep mourning.
[15]But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: the abjects assembled themselves against me, and I knew not: they tare me and ceased not, [15]During my misery they gathered together and rejoiced; yea, they gathered together against me for a long time, and I knew it not;
[16]With the false scoffers at banquets, gnashing their teeth against me. [16]With their boasting and mocking, they gnashed at me with their teeth.
[17]Lord, how long wilt thou behold this? Deliver my soul from their tumult, even my desolate soul from the lions. [17]My LORD, I have suffered enough; rescue my soul from their riot, my only one from the lions.
[18]So will I give thee thanks in a great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. [18]I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among many people.
[19]Let not them that are mine enemies, unjustly rejoice over me, neither let them wink with the eye, that hate me without a cause. [19]Let mine enemies not rejoice over me, nor the mockers who hate me for no reason; they wink with their eyes but they do not salute.
[20]For they speak not as friends: but they imagine deceitful words against the quiet of the land. [20]Against the meek of the earth, they devise mischievous things.
[21]And they gaped on me with their mouths, saying, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen. [21]Yea, they opened their mouths wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it.
[22]Thou hast seen it, O Lord: keep not silence: be not far from me, O Lord. [22]This thou hast seen, O God; keep not silence; O my LORD, be not far from the.
[23]Arise and wake to my judgment, even to my cause, my God, and my Lord. [23]stir up thyself and awake to my judgment, see my suffering, my God and my LORD.
[24]Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me. [24]judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
[25]Let them not say in their hearts, O our soul rejoice: neither let them say, We have devoured him. [25]Let them not say in their hearts, We have rid ourselves of him and we have buried him.
[26]Let them be confounded, and put to shame together, that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with confusion and shame, that lift up themselves against me. [26]Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion who wish me evil; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
[27]But let them be joyful and glad, that love my righteousness: yea, let them say alway, Let the Lord be magnified, which loveth the prosperity of his servant. [27]Let them who are pleased with my victory shout for joy and be glad; yea, let them say continually, The LORD be magnified who has pleasure in the peace of his servant,
[28]And my tongue shall utter thy righteousness, and thy praise every day. [28]And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
