[[To him that excelleth on Neginoth.] A Psalm Chapter of David to give instruction.]
[1]To the chief MusicianH5329[H8764] on NeginothH5058, MaschilH4905[H8688], A Psalm of DavidH1732. Give earH238[H8685] to my prayerH8605, O GodH430; and hideH5956[H8691] not thyself from my supplicationH8467. [1]Hear my prayer, O God, and hide not thyself from my supplication.
[2]AttendH7181[H8685] unto me, and hearH6030[H8798] me: I mournH7300[H8686] in my complaintH7879, H1949and make a noiseH8686 [2]Hearken unto me, and answer me: I mourn in my prayer, and make a noise,
[3]Because of the voiceH6963 of the enemyH341[H8802], becauseH6440 of the oppressionH6125 of the wickedH7563: for they castH4131[H8686] iniquityH205 upon me, and in wrathH639 they hateH7852 meH8799. [3]For the voice of the enemy, and for the vexation of the wicked, because they have brought iniquity upon me, and furiously hate me.
[4]My heartH3820 is sore painedH2342[H8799] withinH7130 me: and the terrorsH367 of deathH4194 are fallenH5307 upon meH8804. [4]Mine heart trembleth within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
[5]FearfulnessH3374 and tremblingH7461 are comeH935[H8799] upon me, and horrorH6427 hath overwhelmedH3680 meH8762. [5]Fear and trembling are come upon me, and an horrible fear hath covered me.
[6]And I saidH559[H8799], Oh thatH5414[H8799] I had wingsH83 like a doveH3123! for then would I fly awayH5774[H8799], and be at restH7931.[H8799] [6]And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove: then would I fly away and rest.
[7]Lo, then would I wanderH5074[H8800] far offH7368[H8686], and remainH3885[H8799] in the wildernessH4057. SelahH5542. [7]Behold, I would take my flight far off, and lodge in the wilderness. Selah.
[8]I would hastenH2363[H8686] my escapeH4655 from the windyH7307 stormH5584[H8801] and tempestH5591. [8]He would make haste for my deliverance from the stormy wind and tempest.
[9]DestroyH1104[H8761], O LordH136, and divideH6385[H8761] their tonguesH3956: for I have seenH7200[H8804] violenceH2555 and strifeH7379 in the cityH5892. [9]Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen cruelty and strife in the city.
[10]DayH3119 and nightH3915 they go aboutH5437[H8779] it upon the wallsH2346 thereof: mischiefH205 also and sorrowH5999 are in the midst of itH7130. [10]Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: both iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it.
[11]WickednessH1942 is in the midstH7130 thereof: deceitH8496 and guileH4820 departH4185[H8686] not from her streetsH7339. [11]Wickedness is in the midst thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streets.
[12]For it was not an enemyH341[H8802] that reproachedH2778[H8762] me; then I could have borneH5375[H8799] it: neither was it he that hatedH8130[H8764] me that did magnifyH1431[H8689] himself against me; then I would have hidH5641 myself from himH8735: [12]Surely mine enemy did not defame me: for I could have borne it: neither did mine adversary exalt himself against me: for I would have hid me from him.
[13]But it was thou, a manH582 mine equalH6187, my guideH441, and mine acquaintanceH3045.[H8794] [13]But it was thou, O man, even my companion, my guide and my familiar:
[14]We took sweetH4985[H8686] counselH5475 togetherH3162, and walkedH1980[H8762] unto the houseH1004 of GodH430 in companyH7285. [14]Which delighted in consulting together , and went into the house of God as companions.
[15]Let deathH4194 seizeH5377[H8686][H8675][H3451] upon them, and let them go downH3381[H8799] quickH2416 into hellH7585: for wickednessH7451 is in their dwellingsH4033, and among themH7130. [15]Let death sense upon them: let them go down quick into the grave: for wickedness is in their dwellings, even in the midst of them.
[16]As for me, I will callH7121[H8799] upon GodH430; and the LORDH3068 shall saveH3467 meH8686. [16]But I will call unto God, and the Lord will save me.
[17]EveningH6153, and morningH1242, and at noonH6672, will I prayH7878[H8799], and cry aloudH1993[H8799]: and he shall hearH8085[H8799] my voiceH6963. [17]Evening and morning, and at noon will I pray, and make a noise, and he will hear my voice.
[18]He hath deliveredH6299[H8804] my soulH5315 in peaceH7965 from the battleH7128 that was against me: for there were many with meH7227. [18]He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle, that was against me: for many were with me.
[19]GodH410 shall hearH8085[H8799], and afflictH6030[H8799] them, even he that abidethH3427[H8802] of oldH6924. SelahH5542. Because they have no changesH2487, therefore they fearH3372[H8804] not GodH430. [19]God shall hear and afflict them, even he that reigneth of old, Selah. because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
[20]He hath put forthH7971[H8804] his handsH3027 against such as be at peaceH7965 with him: he hath brokenH2490[H8765] his covenantH1285. [20]He laid his hand upon such, as be at peace with him, and he brake his covenant.
[21]The words of his mouthH6310 were smootherH2505[H8804] than butterH4260, but warH7128 was in his heartH3820: his wordsH1697 were softerH7401[H8804] than oilH8081, yet were they drawn swordsH6609. [21]The words of his mouth were softer then butter, yet war was in his heart: his words were more gentle then oil, yet they were swords.
[22]CastH7993[H8685] thy burdenH3053 upon the LORDH3068, and he shall sustainH3557[H8770] thee: he shall neverH5769 sufferH5414[H8799] the righteousH6662 to be movedH4131.[H8800] [22]Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall nourish thee: he will not suffer the righteous to fall forever.
[23]But thou, O GodH430, shalt bring them downH3381[H8686] into the pitH875 of destructionH7845: bloodyH1818 and deceitfulH4820 menH582 shall not live out halfH2673[H8799] their daysH3117; but I will trustH982 in theeH8799. [23]And thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of corruption: the bloody, and deceitful men shall not live half their days: but I will trust in thee.
