The Septuagint in English by Brenton
LXX(EN)
Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[For the end. Destroy not: by David for a memorial, when Saul sent, and watched his house to kill him.]
[1]Deliver me from mine enemies, O God; and ransom me from those that rise up against me. [1]DELIVER me from mine enemies, O God; defend me from them that rise up against me.
[2]Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. [2]Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.
[3]For, behold, they have hunted after my soul; violent men have set upon me: neither is it my iniquity, nor my sin, O Lord. [3]For, 1o, they lie in wait for my soul; evil have they multiplied against me; not because I have transgressed or because I have sinned, O LORD.
[4]Without iniquity I ran and directed my course aright: awake to help me, and behold. [4]They run and prepare themselves against me without considering whether I have been at fault;
[5]And thou, Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, draw nigh to visit all the heathen; pity not any that work iniquity. Pause. [5]Awake to help me, and behold, O thou LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the nations, and spare not any wicked transgressors.
[6]They shall return at evening, and hunger like a dog, and go round about the city. [6]They return at evening; they make a noise like dogs, and go round about the city.
[7]Behold, they shall utter a voice with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips; for who, say they, has heard? [7]Behold, they belch out with their mouths; swords are in their lips; for who, say they, does care?
[8]But thou, Lord, wilt laugh them to scorn; thou wilt utterly set at nought all the heathen. [8]But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the nations in derision.
[9]will keep my strength, looking to thee; for thou, O God, art my helper. [9]To thee shall I give praise, O God, for thou art my defense.
[10]As for my God, his mercy shall go before me: my God will shew me vengeance on mine enemies. [10]O God, thy lovingkindness has preceded me; God has let me live to see my enemies avenged.
[11]Slay them not, lest they forget thy law; scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord, my defender. [11]Spare them for a living example, lest my people forget; but scatter them by thy power, and bring them down, O LORD my hope.
[12]For the sin of their mouth, and the word of their lips, let them be even taken in their pride. [12]For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips. let them even be taken in their pride; for it is cursing and lying that they speak.
[13]And for their cursing and falsehood shall utter destruction be denounced: they shall fall by the wrath of utter destruction, and shall not be; so shall they know that the God of Jacob is Lord of the ends of the earth. Pause. [13]Consume them in thy wrath, consume them, that they be no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob and over the ends of the earth.
[14]They shall return at evening, and be hungry as a dog, and go round about the city. [14]And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like dogs, and go round about the city.
[15]They shall be scattered hither and thither for meat; and if they be not satisfied, they shall even murmur. [15]Let them be hungry and not be filled, neither let them find a lodging place.
[16]But I will sing to thy strength, and in the morning will I exult in thy mercy; for thou hast been my supporter, and my refuge in the day of mine affliction. [16]But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning; for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.
[17]Thou art my helper; to thee, my God, will I sing; thou art my supporter, O my God, and my mercy. [17]Unto thee, O God, will I sing; for thou art God of my refuge and the God of my mercy.
