[1]What preferment then hath ye Iew? or what auauntageth circumcision |
[1]Τί οὖν τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ ᾿Ιουδαίου, ἢ τίς ἡ ὠφέλεια τῆς περιτομῆς; |
[2]Much euery way. First, for because yt vnto them were committed ye wordes of God |
[2]πολὺ κατὰ πάντα τρόπον. πρῶτον μὲν γὰρ ὅτι ἐπιστεύθησαν τὰ λόγια τοῦ Θεοῦ. |
[3]What then though some of them dyd not beleue? Shal their vnbeliefe make the fayth of God without effect |
[3]τί γὰρ εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες; μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ Θεοῦ καταργήσει; |
[4]God forbyd. Yea let God be true, and euery man a lyer, as it is writte: That thou myghtest be iustified in thy sayinges, and ouercome when thou art iudged |
[4]μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, καθὼς γέγραπται· ὅπως ἂν δικαιωθῇς ἐν τοῖς λόγοις σου καὶ νικήσῃς ἐν τῷ κρίνεσθαί σε. |
[5]But yf our vnrighteousnes setteth foorth the righteousnes of God, what shall we saye? Is God vnryghteous which taketh vengeaunce? I speake after the maner of men |
[5]εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀδικία ἡμῶν Θεοῦ δικαιοσύνην συνίστησι, τί ἐροῦμεν; μὴ ἄδικος ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ἐπιφέρων τὴν ὀργήν; κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω. |
[6]God forbyd. For howe then shall God iudge the worlde |
[6]μὴ γένοιτο· ἐπεὶ πῶς κρινεῖ ὁ Θεὸς τὸν κόσμον; |
[7]For yf the trueth of God hath more abounded through my lye, vnto his glory, why am I as yet iudged as a sinner |
[7]εἰ γὰρ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν τῷ ἐμῷ ψεύσματι ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, τί ἔτι κἀγὼ ὡς ἁμαρτωλὸς κρίνομαι, |
[8]And not rather (as men speake euyll of vs, and as some affirme that we say) let vs do euyll, that good may come therof? Whose dampnation is iuste |
[8]καὶ μὴ καθὼς βλασφημούμεθα καὶ καθὼς φασί τινες ἡμᾶς λέγειν ὅτι ποιήσωμεν τὰ κακὰ ἵνα ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀγαθά; ὧν τὸ κρῖμα ἔνδικόν ἐστι. |
[9]What then? Are we better [then they?] No, in no wise. For we haue alredy proued, howe that both Iewes and Gentiles are all vnder sinne |
[9]Τί οὖν; προεχόμεθα; οὐ πάντως· προῃτιασάμεθα γὰρ ᾿Ιουδαίους τε καὶ ῞Ελληνας πάντας ὑφ᾿ ἁμαρτίαν εἶναι, |
[10]As it is written: There is none righteous, no not one |
[10]καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι δίκαιος οὐδὲ εἷς, |
[11]There is none that vnderstandeth, there is none that seketh after God |
[11]οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ συνιῶν, οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ἐκζητῶν τὸν Θεόν· |
[12]They are all gone out of the waye, they are all vnprofitable, there is none that doth good, no not one |
[12]πάντες ἐξέκλιναν, ἅμα ἠχρειώθησαν· οὐκ ἔστι ποιῶν χρηστότητα, οὐκ ἔστιν ἕως ἑνός. |
[13]Their throte is an open sepulchre, with their tongues they haue deceaued, the poyso of aspes is vnder their lippes |
[13]τάφος ἀνεῳγμένος ὁ λάρυγξ αὐτῶν, ταῖς γλώσσαις αὐτῶν ἐδολιοῦσαν, ἰὸς ἀσπίδων ὑπὸ τὰ χείλη αὐτῶν· |
[14]Whose mouth is full of cursyng and bytternesse |
[14]ὧν τὸ στόμα ἀρᾶς καὶ πικρίας γέμει· |
[15]Their feete are swyft to shed blood |
[15]ὀξεῖς οἱ πόδες αὐτῶν ἐκχέαι αἷμα, |
[16]Heartes griefe & miserie are in their wayes |
[16]σύντριμμα καὶ ταλαιπωρία ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτῶν, |
[17]And they way of peace haue they not knowen |
[17]καὶ ὁδὸν εἰρήνης οὐκ ἔγνωσαν. |
[18]There is no feare of God before their eyes |
[18]οὐκ ἔστι φόβος Θεοῦ ἀπέναντι τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν. |
[19]Nowe we knowe that what thynges so euer the lawe saith, it saith it to them which are vnder the lawe: That all mouthes maye be stopped, and that al ye world may be indaungered to God |
[19]Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὅσα ὁ νόμος λέγει τοῖς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ λαλεῖ, ἵνα πᾶν στόμα φραγῇ καὶ ὑπόδικος γένηται πᾶς ὁ κόσμος τῷ Θεῷ, |
[20]Because that by the deedes of the lawe, there shall no flesshe be iustified in his syght. For by the lawe, commeth the knowledge of sinne |
[20]διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ· διὰ γὰρ νόμου ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας. |
[21]But nowe is the righteousnes of God declared without the lawe, beyng witnessed by the testimonie of the lawe and of the prophetes |
[21]Νυνὶ δὲ χωρὶς νόμου δικαιοσύνη Θεοῦ πεφανέρωται, μαρτυρουμένη ὑπὸ τοῦ νόμου καὶ τῶν προφητῶν, |
[22]The ryghteousnes of God [commeth] by the fayth of Iesus Christe, vnto all and vpon all them that beleue. There is no difference |
[22]δικαιοσύνη δὲ Θεοῦ διὰ πίστεως ᾿Ιησοῦ Χριστοῦ εἰς πάντας καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς πιστεύοντας· οὐ γάρ ἐστι διαστολή· |
[23]For all haue synned, and are destitute of the glorie of God |
[23]πάντες γὰρ ἥμαρτον καὶ ὑστεροῦνται τῆς δόξης τοῦ Θεοῦ, |
[24]Iustified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christe Iesu |
[24]δικαιούμενοι δωρεὰν τῇ αὐτοῦ χάριτι διὰ τῆς ἀπολυτρώσεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ ᾿Ιησοῦ, |
[25]Whom God hath set foorth to be a propitiatio, through fayth in his blood, to declare his ryghteousnes, in that he forgeueth the sinnes that are past |
[25]ὃν προέθετο ὁ Θεὸς ἱλαστήριον διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν τῷ αὐτοῦ αἵματι, εἰς ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ διὰ τὴν πάρεσιν τῶν προγεγονότων ἁμαρτημάτων |
[26]Which God dyd suffer, to shew at this tyme his righteousnes, that he might be iuste, & the iustifier of hym which beleueth on Iesus |
[26]ἐν τῇ ἀνοχῇ τοῦ Θεοῦ, πρὸς ἔνδειξιν τῆς δικαιοσύνης αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ, εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτὸν δίκαιον καὶ δικαιοῦντα τὸν ἐκ πίστεως ᾿Ιησοῦ. |
[27]Where is then thy boastyng? It is excluded. By what lawe? Of workes? Nay, but by the lawe of fayth |
[27]Ποῦ οὖν ἡ καύχησις; ἐξεκλείσθη. διὰ ποίου νόμου; τῶν ἔργων; οὐχί, ἀλλὰ διὰ νόμου πίστεως. |
[28]Therfore, we holde that a man is iustified by fayth, without the deedes of the lawe |
[28]λογιζόμεθα οὖν πίστει δικαιοῦσθαι ἄνθρωπον χωρὶς ἔργων νόμου. |
[29]Is he the God of the Iewes only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, euen of the Gentiles also |
[29]ἢ ᾿Ιουδαίων ὁ Θεὸς μόνον; οὐχὶ δὲ καὶ ἔθνῶν; ναὶ καὶ ἐθνῶν, |
[30]For it is one God whiche shall iustifie the circumcision by fayth, and vncircumcision through fayth |
[30]ἐπείπερ εἷς ὁ Θεὸς ὃς δικαιώσει περιτομὴν ἐκ πίστεως καὶ ἀκροβυστίαν διὰ τῆς πίστεως. |
[31]Do we then destroy the lawe through fayth? God forbyd: But we rather mayntayne the lawe |
[31]νόμον οὖν καταργοῦμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως; μὴ γένοιτο, ἀλλὰ νόμον ἱστῶμεν. |
