| [1]η αγνοειτε αδελφοι γινωσκουσιν γαρ νομον λαλω οτι ο νομος κυριευει του ανθρωπου εφ οσον χρονον ζη |
[1]BUT know you not, my brethren, for to those who know the law I speak, that the law has authority over a man as long as he liveth? |
| [2]η γαρ υπανδρος γυνη τω ζωντι ανδρι δεδεται νομω εαν δε αποθανη ο ανηρ κατηργηται απο του νομου του ανδρος |
[2]As a woman who is bound in law to her husband as long as he liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is freed from the law of her husband. |
| [3]αρα ουν ζωντος του ανδρος μοιχαλις χρηματισει εαν γενηται ανδρι ετερω εαν δε αποθανη ο ανηρ ελευθερα εστιν απο του νομου του μη ειναι αυτην μοιχαλιδα γενομενην ανδρι ετερω |
[3]But if, while her husband lives, she adhere to another man, she becometh an adulteress; but if her husband shall die, she is freed from the law, and is not an adulteress, though she become [the wife] of another man. |
| [4]ωστε αδελφοι μου και υμεις εθανατωθητε τω νομω δια του σωματος του χριστου εις το γενεσθαι υμας ετερω τω εκ νεκρων εγερθεντι ινα καρποφορησωμεν τω θεω |
[4]And now, my brethren, you also are dead to the law, through the body of the Meshiha, that you should be married to another, (namely, to) him who rose from the dead, that you may render fruit unto Aloha. |
| [5]οτε γαρ ημεν εν τη σαρκι τα παθηματα των αμαρτιων τα δια του νομου ενηργειτο εν τοις μελεσιν ημων εις το καρποφορησαι τω θανατω |
[5]For while we were in the flesh, the affections of sin, which are againstⓘ the law, wrought powerfully in our members to yield fruits unto death; |
| [6]νυνι δε κατηργηθημεν απο του νομου {VAR1: αποθανοντες } {VAR2: αποθανοντος } εν ω κατειχομεθα ωστε δουλευειν ημας εν καινοτητι πνευματος και ου παλαιοτητι γραμματος |
[6]But now we are loosed from the law, and are dead to that which held us, that we might serve henceforth in the newness of the spirit, and not in the oldness of the writing. |
| [7]τι ουν ερουμεν ο νομος αμαρτια μη γενοιτο αλλα την αμαρτιαν ουκ εγνων ει μη δια νομου την τε γαρ επιθυμιαν ουκ ηδειν ει μη ο νομος ελεγεν ουκ επιθυμησεις |
[7]What then, say we the law is sin? Not so. But sin I had not learned [to know] but by the law: for I had not known concupiscence [to be sinful], but [by] the law, which hath said, Thou shalt not covet. |
| [8]αφορμην δε λαβουσα η αμαρτια δια της εντολης κατειργασατο εν εμοι πασαν επιθυμιαν χωρις γαρ νομου αμαρτια νεκρα |
[8]And by this commandment sin found for itself an occasion, and completed in me all concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. |
| [9]εγω δε εζων χωρις νομου ποτε ελθουσης δε της εντολης η αμαρτια ανεζησεν εγω δε απεθανον |
[9]But I was alive without the law formerly: but when the commandment came, sin lived, and I died. |
| [10]και ευρεθη μοι η εντολη η εις ζωην αυτη εις θανατον |
[10]And that commandment of life was found to me [to tend] unto death. |
| [11]η γαρ αμαρτια αφορμην λαβουσα δια της εντολης εξηπατησεν με και δι αυτης απεκτεινεν |
[11]For sin, by the occasion it found through the commandment, deceived me, and thereby killed me. |
| [12]ωστε ο μεν νομος αγιος και η εντολη αγια και δικαια και αγαθη |
[12]The law therefore is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. |
| [13]το ουν αγαθον εμοι γεγονεν θανατος μη γενοιτο αλλα η αμαρτια ινα φανη αμαρτια δια του αγαθου μοι κατεργαζομενη θανατον ινα γενηται καθ υπερβολην αμαρτωλος η αμαρτια δια της εντολης |
[13]The good, then, unto me, unto death was made? Not so. But sin, that it might be seen what sin is, by the good [law] effected death in me, that sin might be the more condemned by the commandment. |
| [14]οιδαμεν γαρ οτι ο νομος πνευματικος εστιν εγω δε σαρκικος ειμι πεπραμενος υπο την αμαρτιαν |
[14]For we know that the law is spiritual;ⓘ but I am carnal, and sold unto sin. |
| [15]ο γαρ κατεργαζομαι ου γινωσκω ου γαρ ο θελω τουτο πρασσω αλλ ο μισω τουτο ποιω |
[15]For what I work, I knowⓘ not; and not that which I will, I do; but what I hate, that I do. |
| [16]ει δε ο ου θελω τουτο ποιω συμφημι τω νομω οτι καλος |
[16]And if the thing that I would not, I do, I witness of the law that it is good.ⓘ |
| [17]νυνι δε ουκετι εγω κατεργαζομαι αυτο αλλ η οικουσα εν εμοι αμαρτια |
[17]But now it is not I who work this, but sin which dwelleth in me. |
| [18]οιδα γαρ οτι ουκ οικει εν εμοι τουτ εστιν εν τη σαρκι μου αγαθον το γαρ θελειν παρακειται μοι το δε κατεργαζεσθαι το καλον ουχ ευρισκω |
[18]For I know that in me, but that is in my flesh, good dwelleth not; because to will the good is easy to me, but to perform it I find not. |
| [19]ου γαρ ο θελω ποιω αγαθον αλλ ο ου θελω κακον τουτο πρασσω |
[19]For the good that I will to do, I do not; but the evil that I will not to do, that do I. |
| [20]ει δε ο ου θελω εγω τουτο ποιω ουκετι εγω κατεργαζομαι αυτο αλλ η οικουσα εν εμοι αμαρτια |
[20]And if the thing that I will not I do, it is not I who do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. |
| [21]ευρισκω αρα τον νομον τω θελοντι εμοι ποιειν το καλον οτι εμοι το κακον παρακειται |
[21]I find then a law which accordeth with my mind, that willeth to do good, because evil is near to me. |
| [22]συνηδομαι γαρ τω νομω του θεου κατα τον εσω ανθρωπον |
[22]For I rejoice in the law of Aloha in the interior man; |
| [23]βλεπω δε ετερον νομον εν τοις μελεσιν μου αντιστρατευομενον τω νομω του νοος μου και αιχμαλωτιζοντα με τω νομω της αμαρτιας τω οντι εν τοις μελεσιν μου |
[23]But I see another law in my members, which warreth against the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that is in my members. |
| [24]ταλαιπωρος εγω ανθρωπος τις με ρυσεται εκ του σωματος του θανατου τουτου |
[24]Miserable son of man am I! who will deliver me from this body of death? |
| [25]ευχαριστω τω θεω δια ιησου χριστου του κυριου ημων αρα ουν αυτος εγω τω μεν νοι δουλευω νομω θεου τη δε σαρκι νομω αμαρτιας |
[25]I give thanks to Aloha! [it is] by the hand of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha. Now then, I in my mind am the servant of the law of Aloha, but in my fleshⓘ I am the servant of the law of sin. |
