[1]In the time that the judges ruled, there was a dearth in the land, and a man of Beth-lehem Judah went for to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. |
| [2]And the nameH8034 of the manH376 was ElimelechH458, and the nameH8034 of his wifeH802 NaomiH5281, and the nameH8034 of his twoH8147 sonsH1121 MahlonH4248 and ChilionH3630, EphrathitesH673 of BethlehemjudahH1035[H3063]. And they cameH935[H8799] into the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, and continuedH1961[H8799] thereH8033. |
[2]And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi: and the names of his two sons, Mahlon, and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah: and when they came into the land of Moab, they continued there. |
| [3]And ElimelechH458 Naomi'sH5281 husbandH376 diedH4191[H8799]; and she was leftH7604[H8735], and her twoH8147 sonsH1121. |
[3]Then Elimelech the husband of Naomi died, and she remained with her two sons, |
| [4]And they tookH5375[H8799] them wivesH802 of the womenH802 of MoabH4125; the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was OrpahH6204, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 RuthH7327: and they dwelledH3427[H8799] there about tenH6235 yearsH8141. |
[4]Which took them wives of the Moabites: the ones name was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. |
| [5]And MahlonH4248 and ChilionH3630 diedH4191[H8799] also bothH8147 of them; and the womanH802 was leftH7604[H8735] of her twoH8147 sonsH3206 and her husbandH376. |
[5]And Mahlon and Chilion died also both twain: so the woman was left destitute of her two sons, and of her husband. |
| [6]Then she aroseH6965[H8799] with her daughters in lawH3618, that she might returnH7725[H8799] from the countryH7704 of MoabH4124: for she had heardH8085[H8804] in the countryH7704 of MoabH4124 how that the LORDH3068 had visitedH6485[H8804] his peopleH5971 in givingH5414[H8800] them breadH3899. |
[6]Then she arose with her daughters in law, and returned from the country of Moab: for she had heard say in the country of Moab, that the Lord had visited his people, and given them bread. |
| [7]Wherefore she went forthH3318[H8799] out of the placeH4725 where she was, and her twoH8147 daughters in lawH3618 with her; and they wentH3212[H8799] on the wayH1870 to returnH7725[H8800] unto the landH776 of JudahH3063. |
[7]Wherefore she departed out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her, and they went on their way to return unto the land of Judah. |
| [8]And NaomiH5281 saidH559[H8799] unto her twoH8147 daughters in lawH3618, GoH3212[H8798], returnH7725[H8798] eachH802 to her mother'sH517 houseH1004: the LORDH3068 dealH6213[H8799] kindlyH2617 with you, as ye have dealtH6213[H8804] with the deadH4191, and with meH8801. |
[8]Then Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each of you unto her own mother's house: the Lord show favor unto you, as ye have done with the dead, and with me. |
| [9]The LORDH3068 grantH5414[H8799] you that ye may findH4672[H8798] restH4496, eachH802 of you in the houseH1004 of her husbandH376. Then she kissedH5401[H8799] them; and they lifted upH5375[H8799] their voiceH6963, and weptH1058.[H8799] |
[9]The Lord grant you, that you may find rest, either of you in the house of her husband. And when she kissed them, they lift up their voice and wept. |
| [10]And they saidH559[H8799] unto her, Surely we will returnH7725[H8799] with thee unto thy peopleH5971. |
[10]And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. |
| [11]And NaomiH5281 saidH559[H8799], Turn againH7725[H8798], my daughtersH1323: why will ye goH3212[H8799] with me? are there yet any more sonsH1121 in my wombH4578, that they may be your husbandsH582? |
[11]But Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: for what cause will you go with me? Are there any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? |
| [12]Turn againH7725[H8798], my daughtersH1323, goH3212[H8798] your way; for I am too oldH2204[H8804] to have an husbandH376. If I should sayH559[H8804], I haveH3426 hopeH8615, if I should have an husbandH376 also to nightH3915, and should also bearH3205[H8804] sonsH1121; |
[12]Turn again, my daughters: go your way: for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, and if I had an husband this night: yea, if I had born sons, |
| [13]Would ye tarryH7663[H8762] for themH3860 till they were grownH1431[H8799]? would ye stayH5702[H8735] for themH3860 from having husbandsH376? nay, my daughtersH1323; for it grievethH4843[H8804] me muchH3966 for your sakes that the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 is gone outH3318 against meH8804. |
[13]Would ye tarry for them, till they were of age? Would ye be deferred for them from taking of husbands? Nay my daughters: for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me. |
| [14]And they lifted upH5375[H8799] their voiceH6963, and wept againH1058[H8799]: and OrpahH6204 kissedH5401[H8799] her mother in lawH2545; but RuthH7327 claveH1692 unto herH8804. |
[14]Then they lift up their voice and wept again, and Orpah kissed her mother in law, but Ruth abode still with her. |
| [15]And she saidH559[H8799], Behold, thy sister in lawH2994 is gone backH7725[H8804] unto her peopleH5971, and unto her godsH430: returnH7725[H8798] thou afterH310 thy sister in lawH2994. |
[15]And Naomi said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. |
| [16]And RuthH7327 saidH559[H8799], IntreatH6293[H8799] me not to leaveH5800[H8800] thee, or to returnH7725[H8800] from following afterH310 thee: for whither thou goestH3212[H8799], I will goH3212[H8799]; and where thou lodgestH3885[H8799], I will lodgeH3885[H8799]: thy peopleH5971 shall be my peopleH5971, and thy GodH430 my GodH430: |
[16]And Ruth answered, Entreat me not to leave thee, nor to depart from thee: for whither thou goest, I will go: and where thou dwellest, I will dwell: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. |
| [17]Where thou diestH4191[H8799], will I dieH4191[H8799], and there will I be buriedH6912[H8735]: the LORDH3068 doH6213[H8799] so to me, and moreH3254[H8686] also, if ought but deathH4194 partH6504 thee and meH8686. |
[17]Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried. the Lord do so to me and more also, if ought but death depart thee and me. |
| [18]When she sawH7200[H8799] that she was stedfastly mindedH553[H8693] to goH3212[H8800] with her, then she leftH2308[H8799] speakingH1696 unto herH8763. |
[18]When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, she left speaking unto her. |
| [19]So they twoH8147 wentH3212[H8799] until they cameH935[H8800] to BethlehemH1035. And it came to pass, when they were comeH935[H8800] to BethlehemH1035, that all the cityH5892 was movedH1949[H8735] about them, and they saidH559[H8799], Is this NaomiH5281? |
[19]So they went both until they came to Beth-lehem: and when they were come to Beth-lehem, it was noised of them through all the city, and they said, Is not this Naomi? |
| [20]And she saidH559[H8799] unto them, CallH7121[H8799] me not NaomiH5281, callH7121[H8798] me MaraH4755: for the AlmightyH7706 hath dealt veryH3966 bitterlyH4843 with meH8689. |
[20]And she answered them, Call me not Naomi, but call me Mara: for the Almighty hath given me much bitterness. |
| [21]I went outH1980[H8804] fullH4392, and the LORDH3068 hath brought me home againH7725[H8689] emptyH7387: why then callH7121[H8799] ye me NaomiH5281, seeing the LORDH3068 hath testifiedH6030[H8804] against me, and the AlmightyH7706 hath afflictedH7489 meH8689? |
[21]I went out full, and the Lord hath caused me to return empty: why call ye me Naomi, seeing the Lord hath humbled me, and the Almighty hath brought me unto adversity? |
| [22]So NaomiH5281 returnedH7725[H8799], and RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, her daughter in lawH3618, with her, which returnedH7725[H8804] out of the countryH7704 of MoabH4124: and they cameH935[H8804] to BethlehemH1035 in the beginningH8462 of barleyH8184 harvestH7105. |
[22]So Naomi returned and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter in law with her, when she came out of the country of Moab: and they came to Beth-lehem in the beginning of barley harvest. |
