[1]And thou -- be speaking what doth become the sound teaching; [1]But speak thou the things which become wholesome doctrine,
[2]aged men to be temperate, grave, sober, sound in the faith, in the love, in the endurance; [2]That the elder men be sober, honest, discrete, sound in the faith, in love, and in patience:
[3]aged women, in like manner, in deportment as doth become sacred persons, not false accusers, to much wine not enslaved, of good things teachers, [3]The elder women likewise, that they be in such behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, but teachers of honest things,
[4]that they may make the young women sober-minded, to be lovers of [their] husbands, lovers of [their] children, [4]That they may instruct the young women to be sober minded, that they love their husbands, that they love their children,
[5]sober, pure, keepers of [their own] houses, good, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be evil spoken of. [5]That they be discrete, chaste, keeping at home, good and subject unto their husbands, that the word of God be not evil spoken of.
[6]The younger men, in like manner, be exhorting to be sober-minded; [6]Exhort young men likewise, that they be sober minded.
[7]concerning all things thyself showing a pattern of good works; in the teaching uncorruptedness, gravity, incorruptibility, [7]Above all things show thyself an ensample of good works with uncorrupt doctrine, with gravity, integrity,
[8]discourse sound, irreprehensible, that he who is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say concerning you. [8]And with the wholesome word, which cannot be reproved, that he which withstandeth, may be ashamed, having nothing concerning you to speak evil of.
[9]Servants -- to their own masters [are] to be subject, in all things to be well-pleasing, not gainsaying, [9]Let servants be subject to their masters, and please them in all things, not answering again,
[10]not purloining, but showing all good stedfastness, that the teaching of God our Saviour they may adorn in all things. [10]Neither pickers, but that they show all good faithfulness, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
[11]For the saving grace of God was manifested to all men, [11]For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation unto all men, hath appeared,
[12]teaching us, that denying the impiety and the worldly desires, soberly and righteously and piously we may live in the present age, [12]And teacheth us that we should deny ungodliness, and worldly lusts, and that we should live soberly and righteously, and godly in this present world,
[13]waiting for the blessed hope and manifestation of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, [13]Looking for the blessed hope, and appearing of the glory of the mighty God, and of our Savior Jesus Christ,
[14]who did give himself for us, that he might ransom us from all lawlessness, and might purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works; [14]Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purge us to be a peculiar people unto himself, zealous of good works.
[15]these things be speaking, and exhorting, and convicting, with all charge; let no one despise thee! [15]These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. See that no man despise thee.
