| [1]In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, |
[1]בחדש השמיני בשנת שתים לדריוש־היה דבר יהוה אל זכריה בן ברכיה בן עדו הנביא לאמר |
| [2]The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers. |
[2]קצף יהוה על אבותיכם קצף |
| [3]Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. |
[3]ואמרת אלהם כה אמר יהוה צבאות שובו אלי נאם יהוה צבאות־ואשוב אליכם אמר יהוה צבאות |
| [4]Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Turn you now from your evil ways, and from your wicked works: but they would not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord. |
[4]אל תהיו כאבתיכם אשר קראו אליהם הנביאים הראשנים לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות שובו נא מדרכיכם הרעים ומעליליכם [Q: ומעלליכם] הרעים ולא שמעו ולא הקשיבו אלי נאם יהוה |
| [5]Your fathers, where are they? And do the prophets live forever? |
[5]אבותיכם איה הם והנבאים־הלעולם יחיו |
| [6]But did not my words and my statutes, which I commanded by my servants the prophets, take hold of your fathers? And they returned, and said, As the Lord of hosts hath determined to do unto us, according to our own ways, and according to our works, so hath he dealt with us. |
[6]אך דברי וחקי אשר צויתי את עבדי הנביאים הלוא השיגו אבתיכם וישובו ויאמרו כאשר זמם יהוה צבאות לעשות לנו כדרכינו וכמעללינו כן עשה אתנו |
| [7]Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, |
[7]ביום עשרים וארבעה לעשתי עשר חדש הוא חדש שבט בשנת שתים לדריוש־היה דבר יהוה אל זכריה בן ברכיהו בן עדוא הנביא לאמר |
| [8]I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees, that were in a bottom, and behind him were there red horses speckled and white. |
[8]ראיתי הלילה והנה איש רכב על סוס אדם והוא עמד בין ההדסים אשר במצלה ואחריו סוסים אדמים שרקים ולבנים |
| [9]Then said I, O my Lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me, said unto me, I will show thee what these be. |
[9]ואמר מה אלה אדני ויאמר אלי המלאך הדבר בי אני אראך מה המה אלה |
| [10]And the man that stood among the myrtle trees, answered, and said, These are they whom the Lord hath sent to go through the world. |
[10]ויען האיש העמד בין ההדסים־ויאמר אלה אשר שלח יהוה להתהלך בארץ |
| [11]And they answered the angel of the Lord, that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have gone through the world: and behold, all the world sitteth still, and is at rest. |
[11]ויענו את מלאך יהוה העמד בין ההדסים ויאמרו התהלכנו בארץ והנה כל הארץ ישבת ושקטת |
| [12]Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou be unmerciful to Jerusalem, and to the cities of Judah, with whom thou hast been displeased now these threescore and ten years? |
[12]ויען מלאך יהוה ויאמר יהוה צבאות עד מתי אתה לא תרחם את ירושלם ואת ערי יהודה־אשר זעמתה זה שבעים שנה |
| [13]And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me, with good words and comfortable words. |
[13]ויען יהוה את המלאך הדבר בי־דברים טובים דברים נחמים |
| [14]So the angel that communed with me, said unto me, Cry thou, and speak, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I am jealous over Jerusalem and Zion with a great zeal, |
[14]ויאמר אלי המלאך הדבר בי קרא לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות קנאתי לירושלם ולציון קנאה גדולה |
| [15]And am greatly angry against the careless heathen: for I was angry but a little, and they helped forward the affliction. |
[15]וקצף גדול אני קצף על הגוים השאננים אשר אני קצפתי מעט והמה עזרו לרעה |
| [16]Therefore thus saith the Lord, I will return unto Jerusalem with tender mercy: mine house shall be builded in it, saith the Lord of hosts, and a line shall be stretched upon Jerusalem. |
[16]לכן כה אמר יהוה שבתי לירושלם ברחמים־ביתי יבנה בה נאם יהוה צבאות וקוה [Q: וקו] ינטה על ירושלם |
| [17]Cry yet, and speak, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, My cities shall yet be broken with plenty: the Lord shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. |
[17]עוד קרא לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות עוד תפוצנה ערי מטוב ונחם יהוה עוד את ציון ובחר עוד בירושלם |
| [18]Then lift I up mine eyes and saw, and behold, four horns. |
18[No verse] |
| [19]And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. |
19[No verse] |
| [20]And the Lord showed me four carpenters. |
20[No verse] |
| [21]Then said I, What come these to do? And he answered, and said, These are the horns, which have scattered Judah, so that a man durst not lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, and to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lift up their horn over the land of Judah, to scatter it. |
