[1]And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chislev; |
[1]AND it came to pass in the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Canun, |
[2]When Bethel-sarezer, and Regem-melech and his men, had sent to entreat the favour of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇, |
[2]When they had sent to Beth-el, Sherezar and Rab-mag, and the king and his mighty men had sent word to pray for him before the LORD, |
[3]And to speak unto the priests of the house of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts, and to the prophets, saying: 'Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?' |
[3]And to speak to the priests who were in the house of the LORD of hosts and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years? |
[4]Then came the word of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts unto me, saying: |
[4]Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, |
[5]'Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying: When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, even these seventy years, did ye at all fast unto Me, even to Me? |
[5]Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months, for these seventy years, did you at all fast to me? |
[6]And when ye eat, and when ye did drink, are ye not they that eat, and they that drink? |
[6]And when you did eat and when you did drink, did you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves? |
[7]Should ye not hearken to the words which 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 hath proclaimed by the former prophets, wh Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?' |
[7]These were the very words which the LORD proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, when her towns were round about her and when the mountains and plains were inhabited |
[8]And the word of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 came unto Zechariah, saying: |
[8]And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying, |
[9]'Thus hath 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts spoken, saying: Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion every man to his brother; |
[9]Thus says the LORD of hosts: Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion every man to his brother; |
[10]And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart. |
[10]And do not oppress the widow nor the orphan, the poor nor the proselyte; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in his heart. |
[11]But they refused to attend, and turned stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. |
[11]But they refused to hearken, they rebelled and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. |
[12]Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts had sent by His spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came there great wrath from 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts. |
[12]Yea, they made their hearts like adamant, lest they should hear the law, and the ordinances which the LORD of hosts has sent in his Spirit by the former prophets; therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. |
[13]And it came to pass that, as He called, and they would not hear; so they shall call, and I will not hear, said 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 of hosts; |
[13]Since I have called them and they would not hear, so they shall call me and I will not listen, says the LORD of hosts. |
[14]But I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they laid the pleasant land desolate.' |
[14]And I scattered them among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, without any one to pass through it and without an inhabitant, because they made the pleasant land a desolation |
