[1]The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 which came unto ZephaniahH6846 the sonH1121 of CushiH3570, the sonH1121 of GedaliahH1436, the sonH1121 of AmariahH568, the sonH1121 of HizkiahH2396, in the daysH3117 of JosiahH2977 the sonH1121 of AmonH526, kingH4428 of JudahH3063. [1]The word of the Lord, which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon king of Judah.
[2]I will utterlyH622[H8800] consumeH5486[H8686] all things from off the landH6440[H127], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. [2]I will surely destroy all things from off the land, saith the Lord.
[3]I will consumeH5486[H8686] manH120 and beastH929; I will consumeH5486[H8686] the fowlsH5775 of the heavenH8064, and the fishesH1709 of the seaH3220, and the stumblingblocksH4384 with the wickedH7563; and I will cut offH3772[H8689] manH120 from offH6440 the landH127, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. [3]I will destroy man and beast: I will destroy the fowls of the heaven, and the fish of the sea, and ruins shall be to the wicked, and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.
[4]I will also stretch outH5186[H8804] mine handH3027 upon JudahH3063, and upon all the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of JerusalemH3389; and I will cut offH3772[H8689] the remnantH7605 of BaalH1168 from this placeH4725, and the nameH8034 of the ChemarimsH3649 with the priestsH3548; [4]I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests,
[5]And them that worshipH7812[H8693] the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 upon the housetopsH1406; and them that worshipH7812[H8693] and that swearH7650[H8737] by the LORDH3068, and that swearH7650[H8737] by MalchamH4428; [5]And them that worship the host of heaven upon the house tops, and them that worship and swear by the Lord, and by Malcham,
[6]And them that are turned backH5472[H8737] fromH310 the LORDH3068; and those that have not soughtH1245[H8765] the LORDH3068, nor enquiredH1875 for himH8804. [6]And them that are turned back from the Lord, and those that have not sought the Lord, nor inquired for him.
[7]Hold thy peaceH2013[H8761] at the presenceH6440 of the LordH136 GODH3069: for the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 is at handH7138: for the LORDH3068 hath preparedH3559[H8689] a sacrificeH2077, he hath bidH6942[H8689] his guestsH7121.[H8803] [7]Be still at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, and hath sanctified his guests.
[8]And it shall come to pass in the dayH3117 of the LORD'SH3068 sacrificeH2077, that I will punishH6485[H8804] the princesH8269, and the king'sH4428 childrenH1121, and all such as are clothedH3847[H8802] with strangeH5237 apparelH4403. [8]And it shall be in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will visit the princes and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.
[9]In the same dayH3117 also will I punishH6485[H8804] all those that leapH1801[H8802] on the thresholdH4670, which fillH4390[H8764] their masters'H113 housesH1004 with violenceH2555 and deceitH4820. [9]In the same day also will I visit all those that dance upon the threshold so proudly, which fill their master's houses by cruelty and deceit.
[10]And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, that there shall be the noiseH6963 of a cryH6818 from the fishH1709 gateH8179, and an howlingH3215 from the secondH4932, and a greatH1419 crashingH7667 from the hillsH1389. [10]And in that day, saith the Lord, there shall be a noise, and cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second gate, and a great destruction from the hills.
[11]HowlH3213[H8685], ye inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of MakteshH4389, for all the merchantH3667 peopleH5971 are cut downH1820[H8738]; all they that bearH5187 silverH3701 are cut offH3772.[H8738] [11]Howl ye inhabitants of the low place: for the company of the merchants is destroyed: all they that bear silver, are cut off.
[12]And it shall come to pass at that timeH6256, that I will searchH2664[H8762] JerusalemH3389 with candlesH5216, and punishH6485[H8804] the menH582 that are settledH7087[H8802] on their leesH8105: that sayH559[H8802] in their heartH3824, The LORDH3068 will not do goodH3190[H8686], neither will he do evilH7489.[H8686] [12]And at that time will I search Jerusalem with lights, and visit the men that are frozen in their dregs, and say in their hearts, The Lord will neither do good nor do evil.
[13]Therefore their goodsH2428 shall become a bootyH4933, and their housesH1004 a desolationH8077: they shall also buildH1129[H8804] housesH1004, but not inhabitH3427[H8799] them; and they shall plantH5193[H8804] vineyardsH3754, but not drinkH8354[H8799] the wine thereofH3196. [13]Therefore their goods shall be spoiled, and their houses waste: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.
[14]The greatH1419 dayH3117 of the LORDH3068 is nearH7138, it is nearH7138, and hastethH4118 greatlyH3966, even the voiceH6963 of the dayH3117 of the LORDH3068: the mighty manH1368 shall cryH6873[H8802] there bitterlyH4751. [14]The great day of the Lord is near: it is near, and hasteth greatly , even the voice of the day of the Lord: the strong man shall cry there bitterly.
[15]That dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of wrathH5678, a dayH3117 of troubleH6869 and distressH4691, a dayH3117 of wastenessH7722 and desolationH4875, a dayH3117 of darknessH2822 and gloominessH653, a dayH3117 of cloudsH6051 and thick darknessH6205, [15]That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and heaviness, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of obscurity and darkness, a day of clouds and blackness,
[16]A dayH3117 of the trumpetH7782 and alarmH8643 against the fencedH1219[H8803] citiesH5892, and against the highH1364 towersH6438. [16]A day of the trumpet and alarm against the strong cities, and against the high towers.
[17]And I will bring distressH6887[H8689] upon menH120, that they shall walkH1980[H8804] like blind menH5787, because they have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068: and their bloodH1818 shall be poured outH8210[H8795] as dustH6083, and their fleshH3894 as the dungH1561. [17]And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord, and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
[18]Neither their silverH3701 nor their goldH2091 shall be ableH3201[H8799] to deliverH5337[H8687] them in the dayH3117 of the LORD'SH3068 wrathH5678; but the whole landH776 shall be devouredH398[H8735] by the fireH784 of his jealousyH7068: for he shall makeH6213[H8799] even a speedyH926[H8737] riddanceH3617 of all them that dwellH3427[H8802] in the landH776. [18]Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath, but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
