[1]Then all Israel gathered themselves to David to Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. |
| [2]And moreover in timeH8543 pastH8032, even when SaulH7586 was kingH4428, thou wast he that leddest outH3318[H8688] and broughtest inH935[H8688] IsraelH3478: and the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 saidH559[H8799] unto thee, Thou shalt feedH7462[H8799] my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt be rulerH5057 over my peopleH1571 IsraelH3478. |
[2]And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel. |
| [3]Therefore cameH935[H8799] all the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and DavidH1732 madeH3772[H8799] a covenantH1285 with them in HebronH2275 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; and they anointedH4886[H8799] DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 byH3027 SamuelH8050. |
[3]Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel. |
| [4]And DavidH1732 and all IsraelH3478 wentH3212[H8799] to JerusalemH3389, which is JebusH2982; where the JebusitesH2983 were, the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of the landH776. |
[4]And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land. |

[5]And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David. |
| [6]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799], Whosoever smitethH5221[H8688] the JebusitesH2983 firstH7223 shall be chiefH7218 and captainH8269. So JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 wentH5927 firstH7223 upH5927[H8799], and was chiefH7218. |
[6]And David said, Whoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was chief. |
| [7]And DavidH1732 dweltH3427[H8799] in the castleH4679; therefore they calledH7121[H8804] it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. |
[7]And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it, The city of David. |

[8]And he built the city around, even from Millo around: and Joab repaired the rest of the city. |

[9]So David became greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him. |
| [10]These also are the chiefH7218 of the mighty menH1368 whom DavidH1732 had, who strengthenedH2388[H8693] themselves with him in his kingdomH4438, and with all IsraelH3478, to make him kingH4427[H8687], according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 concerning IsraelH3478. |
[10]These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. |

[11]And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam a Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time. |

[12]And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties. |
| [13]He was with DavidH1732 at PasdammimH6450, and there the PhilistinesH6430 were gathered togetherH622[H8738] to battleH4421, where was a parcelH2513 of groundH7704 fullH4392 of barleyH8184; and the peopleH5971 fledH5127[H8804] from beforeH6440 the PhilistinesH6430. |
[13]He was with David at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistines were gathered to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. |
| [14]And they setH3320[H8691] themselves in the midstH8432 of that parcelH2513, and deliveredH5337[H8686] it, and slewH5221[H8686] the PhilistinesH6430; and the LORDH3068 savedH3467[H8686] them by a greatH1419 deliveranceH8668. |
[14]And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance. |
| [15]Now threeH7969 of the thirtyH7970 captainsH7218 went downH3381[H8799] to the rockH6697 to DavidH1732, into the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725; and the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 encampedH2583[H8802] in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. |
[15]Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim. |
| [16]And DavidH1732 was then in the holdH4686, and the Philistines'H6430 garrisonH5333 was then at BethlehemH1035. |
[16]And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Beth-lehem. |
| [17]And DavidH1732 longedH183[H8691], and saidH559[H8799], Oh that one would give me drinkH8248[H8686] of the waterH4325 of the wellH953 of BethlehemH1035, that is at the gateH8179! |
[17]And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, that is at the gate! |

[18]And the three broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD, |
| [19]And saidH559[H8799], My GodH430 forbidH2486 it me, that I should doH6213[H8800] this thingH2063: shall I drinkH8354[H8799] the bloodH1818 of these menH582 that have put their lives in jeopardyH5315? for with the jeopardy of their livesH5315 they broughtH935[H8689] it. [19]And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest. |

[20]And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three. |

[23]And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. |
