| [1]And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, |
[1]Willing I am but that you will know my brothers our fathers all of them under a cloud were and all of them in the sea passed through |
| [2]and all to Moses were baptized in the cloud, and in the sea; |
[2]And all of them by Moses were baptized in the cloud and in the sea |
| [3]and all the same spiritual food did eat, |
[3]And all of them one food of The Spirit they ate |
| [4]and all the same spiritual drink did drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ; |
[4]And all of them one drink of The Spirit they drank drinking they were for from The Rock of The Spirit Which being was with them Rock but That It was The Messiah |
| [5]but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness, |
[5]But not was with the multitude of them pleased Alaha they fell for in the wilderness |
| [6]and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these did desire. |
[6]These things but an example to us being were that not we would be lusting for evil just as those lusted |
| [7]Neither become ye idolaters, as certain of them, as it hath been written, `The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play;' |
[7]Neither we would be servants of idols even as also some of them served as that is written sat the people to eat and to drink and they arose to play games |
| [8]neither may we commit whoredom, as certain of them did commit whoredom, and there fell in one day twenty-three thousand; |
[8]And neither we should commit fornication as some of them fornicated and they fell in one day twenty and three thousand |
| [9]neither may we tempt the Christ, as also certain of them did tempt, and by the serpents did perish; |
[9]Neither we should tempt The Messiah as some of them tempted and destroyed them serpents |
| [10]neither murmur ye, as also some of them did murmur, and did perish by the destroyer. |
[10]Neither should we complain as some of them complained and were destroyed by the destroyer |
| [11]And all these things as types did happen to those persons, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages did come, |
[11]These but all that occurred to them for our example were and it was written for admonition our for the ends of the universe upon us have arrived |
| [12]so that he who is thinking to stand -- let him observe, lest he fall. |
[12]From now on whoever thinks that he stands let him beware lest he fall |
| [13]No temptation hath taken you -- except human; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear [it]. |
[13]Temptation not has met you except of the children of men faithful is but Alaha Who not shall allow you to be tempted more than whatever able you are but shall make for your temptation an exit so that you can endure |
| [14]Wherefore, my beloved, flee from the idolatry; |
[14]Because of this my beloved flee from the service of idols |
| [15]as to wise men I speak -- judge ye what I say: |
[15]As to the wise speak I judge you whatever say I |
| [16]The cup of the blessing that we bless -- is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? the bread that we break -- is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ? |
[16]Cup that of thanksgiving that we bless not? has been the partaking the Presence of the blood of The Messiah and interrog. that our breaking of bread not? has been the sharing in the Presence of the Body of The Messiah |
| [17]because one bread, one body, are we the many -- for we all of the one bread do partake. |
[17]Just as one is bread that thus we all one are body we all for from that which is one bread we are receiving |
| [18]See Israel according to the flesh! are not those eating the sacrifices in the fellowship of the altar? |
[18]Behold Israel which is in the flesh not? have been those who eat sacrifices were partakers of the altar |
| [19]what then do I say? that an idol is anything? or that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything? -- |
[19]What? therefore do say I that an idol anything is or a sacrifice of an idol anything is No! |
| [20][no,] but that the things that the nations sacrifice -- they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not wish you to come into the fellowship of the demons. |
[20]But that thing that sacrifice the pagans to demons it is they sacrifice and not to Alaha not but want I you to be sharers with demons |
| [21]Ye are not able the cup of the Lord to drink, and the cup of demons; ye are not able of the table of the Lord to partake, and of the table of demons; |
[21]Not able you are to drink the cup of our Lord and the cup of demons and not able you are to share in the table of our Lord and in the table of demons |
| [22]do we arouse the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He? |
[22]Or interrog. to make envious? do we make envy our Lord interrog. are we stronger? than He |
| [23]All things to me are lawful, but all things are not profitable; all things to me are lawful, but all things do not build up; |
[23]Every thing is legal to me but not every thing is advantageous every thing is legal to me but not every thing edifies |
| [24]let no one seek his own -- but each another's. |
[24]Not a man what is of himself should seek but every person also what is his neighbor's |
| [25]Whatever in the meat-market is sold eat ye, not inquiring, because of the conscience, |
[25]Everything that is sold in the butcher's shop you may eat without inquiry because of conscience |
| [26]for the Lord's [is] the earth, and its fulness; |
[26]The Lord's is for The Earth with its fullness |
| [27]and if any one of the unbelieving do call you, and ye wish to go, all that is set before you eat, nothing inquiring, because of the conscience; |
[27]If a man but who a pagan invites you and wish you to go everything that is set before you eat without inquiry because of conscience |
| [28]and if any one may say to you, `This is a thing sacrificed to an idol,' -- do not eat, because of that one who shewed [it], and of the conscience, for the Lord's [is] the earth and its fulness: |
[28]If a man but shall say to you "This has been sacrificed" it not you shall eat because of that which he said to you and because of conscience |
| [29]and conscience, I say, not of thyself, but of the other, for why [is it] that my liberty is judged by another's conscience? |
[29]Conscience but say I not it is yours but of him who told Why? for my liberty is judged from the conscience of others |
| [30]and if I thankfully do partake, why am I evil spoken of, for that for which I give thanks? |
[30]If I with grace behave I why? blasphemed am I for anything for which I am giving thanks |
| [31]Whether, then, ye eat, or drink, or do anything, do all to the glory of God; |
[31]If eat you therefore and if drink you and if anything do you everything for the glory of Alaha you shall do |
| [32]become offenceless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the assembly of God; |
[32]Without violation be to the Jews and to the Aramaeans and to the church of Alaha |
| [33]as I also in all things do please all, not seeking my own profit, but that of many -- that they may be saved. |
[33]As that also I in every thing everyone please I and not seek I what is my advantage but whatever for the many is advantageous that they may have life |
