| [1]Paul an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior, and of our Lord Jesus Christ our hope, |
[1]PAUL, a legate of Jesus the Messiah, by the command of God our life-giver, and of the Messiah, Jesus our hope; |
| [2]Unto Timotheus my natural son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord. |
[2]to Timothy, [my] true son in the faith: grace and mercy and peace, from God our Father, and the Messiah, Jesus our Lord. |
| [3]As I besought thee to abide still in Ephesus, when I departed into Macedonia, so do, that thou mayest command some, that they teach none other doctrine, |
[3]When I was going into Macedonia, I requested thee to remain at Ephesus, and to charge certain persons not to teach different doctrines; |
| [4]Neither that they give heed to fables and genealogies which are endless, which breed questions rather than godly edifying which is by faith. |
[4]and not to throw themselves into fables and stories about genealogies, of which there is no end, which produce contention rather than edification in the faith of God. |
| [5]For the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned. |
[5]Now the end of the command is love, which is from a pure heart, and from a good conscience, and from true faith. |
| [6]From the which things some have erred, and have turned unto vain jangling. |
[6]But from these some have strayed, and have turned aside to vain words; |
| [7]They would be doctors of the Law, and yet understand not what they speak, neither whereof they affirm. |
[7]because they wished to be teachers of the law, while they understood not what they speak, nor the thing about which they contend. |
| [8]And we know, that the Law is good, if a man use it lawfully, |
[8]Now, we know, that the law is a good thing, if a man conduct himself in it, according to the law, |
| [9]Knowing this, that the Law is not given unto a righteous man, but unto the lawless and disobedient, to the ungodly, and to sinners, to the unholy, and to the profane, to murderers of fathers and mothers, to manslayers, |
[9]he knowing that the law was not established for the righteous, but for the evil, and the rebellious, and the ungodly, and the sinful, and the perverse and for the impure, and for smiters of their fathers and smiters of their mothers, and for murderers, |
| [10]To whoremongers, to buggerers, to menstealers, to liars, to the perjured, and if there be any other thing, that is contrary to wholesome doctrine, |
[10]and for whoremongers, and for copulators with males, and for the stealers of free people, and for liars, and for violators of oaths, and for whatever is contrary to sound doctrine, |
| [11]Which is according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, which is committed unto me. |
[11][namely] that of the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I am intrusted. |
| [12]Therefore I thank him, which hath made me strong, that is, Christ Jesus our Lord: for he counted me faithful, and put me in his service: |
[12]And I thank him who strengthened me, [even] our Lord Jesus the Messiah; who accounted me faithful, and appointed me to his ministry; |
| [13]When before I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and an oppressor: but I was received to mercy: for I did it ignorantly through unbelief. |
[13]me [I say], who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and a reviler; but I obtained mercy, because I did it while ignorant and without faith. |
| [14]But the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus. |
[14]And in me the grace of our Lord abounded, and faith and love, which is in Jesus the Messiah. |
| [15]This is a true saying, and by all means worthy to be received, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. |
[15]Faithful is the declaration, and worthy to be received, that Jesus the Messiah came into the world to give life to sinners, of whom I was the primary. |
| [16]Notwithstanding, for this cause was I received to mercy, that Jesus Christ should first show on me all long suffering unto the ensample of them, which shall in time to come believe in him unto eternal life. |
[16]But for this cause had he mercy on me, that in me first Jesus the Messiah might display all his long suffering, for an example to them who were to believe on him unto life eternal. |
| [17]Now unto the King everlasting, immortal, invisible, unto God only wise, be honor and glory forever, and ever, Amen. |
[17]And to the king eternal, incorruptible, and invisible, the sole God, be honor and glory for ever and ever ! Amen. |
| [18]This commandment commit I unto thee, son Timotheus, according to the prophecies, which went before upon thee, that thou by them shouldest fight a good fight, |
[18]This injunction I commit to thee, my son Timothy, according to the former predictions concerning thee, that in them thou mightest war this good warfare, |
| [19]Having faith and a good conscience, which some have put away, and as concerning faith, have made shipwreck. |
[19]in faith and a good conscience; for they who have repudiated this, have become destitute of faith; |
| [20]Of whom is Hymeneus, and Alexander, whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they might learn not to blaspheme. |
[20]like Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered up to Satan, that they may learn not to be blasphemers. |
