[1]Thus hath the LordH136 GODH3069 shewedH7200[H8689] unto me: and behold a basketH3619 of summer fruitH7019. [1]Thus hath the Lord God showed unto me, and behold, a basket of summer fruit.
[2]And he saidH559[H8799], AmosH5986, what seestH7200[H8802] thou? And I saidH559[H8799], A basketH3619 of summer fruitH7019. Then saidH559[H8799] the LORDH3068 unto me, The endH7093 is comeH935[H8804] upon my peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478; I will not againH3254[H8686] passH5674 by them any moreH8800. [2]And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel, I will pass by them no more.
[3]And the songsH7892 of the templeH1964 shall be howlingsH3213[H8689] in that dayH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069: there shall be manyH7227 dead bodiesH6297 in every placeH4725; they shall cast them forthH7993[H8689] with silenceH2013.[H8761] [3]And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: many dead bodies shall be in every place: they shall cast them forth with silence.
[4]HearH8085[H8798] this, O ye that swallow upH7602[H8802] the needyH34, even to makeH7673 the poorH6041[H8675][H6035] of the landH776 H7673to failH8687 [4]Hear this, O ye that swallow up the poor, that ye may make the needy of the land to fail,
[5]SayingH559[H8800], When will the new moonH2320 be goneH5674[H8799], that we may sellH7666[H8686] cornH7668? and the sabbathH7676, that we may set forthH6605[H8799] wheatH1250, making the ephahH374 smallH6994[H8687], and the shekelH8255 greatH1431[H8687], and falsifyingH5791[H8763] the balancesH3976 by deceitH4820? [5]Saying, When will the new month be gone, that we may sell corn? And the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, and make the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsify the weights by deceit?
[6]That we may buyH7069[H8800] the poorH1800 for silverH3701, and the needyH34 for a pair of shoesH5275; yea, and sellH7666[H8686] the refuseH4651 of the wheatH1250? [6]That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for shoes: yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat.
[7]The LORDH3068 hath swornH7650[H8738] by the excellencyH1347 of JacobH3290, Surely I will neverH5331 forgetH7911[H8799] any of their worksH4639. [7]The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
[8]Shall not the landH776 trembleH7264[H8799] for this, and every one mournH56[H8804] that dwellethH3427[H8802] therein? and it shall rise upH5927[H8804] wholly as a floodH2975; and it shall be cast outH1644[H8738] and drownedH8257[H8738][H8675][H8248][H8738], as by the floodH216 of EgyptH4714. [8]Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn, that dwelleth therein? And it shall rise up wholly as a flood, and it shall be cast out, and drowned as by the flood of Egypt.
[9]And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, that I will cause the sunH8121 to go downH935[H8689] at noonH6672, and I will darkenH2821[H8689] the earthH776 in the clearH216 dayH3117: [9]And in that day, saith the Lord God, I will even cause the sun to go down at noon: and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
[10]And I will turnH2015[H8804] your feastsH2282 into mourningH60, and all your songsH7892 into lamentationH7015; and I will bring upH5927[H8689] sackclothH8242 upon all loinsH4975, and baldnessH7144 upon every headH7218; and I will makeH7760[H8804] it as the mourningH60 of an onlyH3173 son, and the endH319 thereof as a bitterH4751 dayH3117. [10]And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation: and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head: and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
[11]Behold, the daysH3117 comeH935[H8802], saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, that I will sendH7971[H8689] a famineH7458 in the landH776, not a famineH7458 of breadH3899, nor a thirstH6772 for waterH4325, but of hearingH8085[H8800] the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068: [11]Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the word of the Lord.
[12]And they shall wanderH5128[H8804] from seaH3220 to seaH3220, and from the northH6828 even to the eastH4217, they shall run to and froH7751[H8787] to seekH1245[H8763] the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and shall not findH4672 itH8799. [12]And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even unto the east shall they run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.
[13]In that dayH3117 shall the fairH3303 virginsH1330 and young menH970 faintH5968[H8691] for thirstH6772. [13]In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men perish for thirst.
[14]They that swearH7650[H8737] by the sinH819 of SamariaH8111, and sayH559[H8804], Thy godH430, O DanH1835, livethH2416; and, The mannerH1870 of BeershebaH884 livethH2416; even they shall fallH5307[H8804], and never rise upH6965 againH8799. [14]They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and that say, Thy God, O Dan, liveth, and the manner of Beer-sheba liveth, even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
