| [1]These be the wordsH1697 which MosesH4872 spakeH1696[H8765] unto all IsraelH3478 on this sideH5676 JordanH3383 in the wildernessH4057, in the plainH6160 over againstH4136 the RedH5489 sea, between ParanH6290, and TophelH8603, and LabanH3837, and HazerothH2698, and DizahabH1774. |
[1]These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel, on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain, over against the Red Sea, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab. |
| [2](There are elevenH259[H6240] days'H3117 journey from HorebH2722 by the wayH1870 of mountH2022 SeirH8165 unto KadeshbarneaH6947.) |
[2]There are eleven days journey from Horeb unto Kadesh-barnea, by the way of mount Seir. |
| [3]And it came to pass in the fortiethH705 yearH8141, in the eleventhH6249[H6240] monthH2320, on the firstH259 day of the monthH2320, that MosesH4872 spakeH1696[H8765] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, according unto all that the LORDH3068 had given him in commandmentH6680 unto themH8765; |
[3]And it came to pass in the first day of the eleventh month, in the fortieth year that Moses spake unto the children of Israel according unto all that the Lord had given him in commandment unto them, |
| [4]AfterH310 he had slainH5221[H8687] SihonH5511 the kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, which dweltH3427[H8802] in HeshbonH2809, and OgH5747 the kingH4428 of BashanH1316, which dweltH3427[H8802] at AstarothH6252 in EdreiH154: |
[4]After that he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, which dwelt at Ashtaroth in Edrei. |
| [5]On this sideH5676 JordanH3383, in the landH776 of MoabH4124, beganH2974[H8689] MosesH4872 to declareH874[H8763] this lawH8451, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[5]On this side Jordan in the land of Moab began Moses to declare this law, saying, |
| [6]The LORDH3068 our GodH430 spakeH1696[H8765] unto us in HorebH2722, sayingH559[H8800], Ye have dweltH3427[H8800] long enoughH7227 in this mountH2022: |
[6]The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount, |
| [7]TurnH6437[H8798] you, and take your journeyH5265[H8798], and goH935[H8798] to the mountH2022 of the AmoritesH567, and unto all the places nighH7934 thereunto, in the plainH6160, in the hillsH2022, and in the valeH8219, and in the southH5045, and by the seaH3220 sideH2348, to the landH776 of the CanaanitesH3669, and unto LebanonH3844, unto the greatH1419 riverH5104, the riverH5104 EuphratesH6578. |
[7]Turn you and depart, and go unto the mountain of the Amorites, and unto all places near thereunto in the plain, in the mountain, or in the valley: both southward, and to the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon: even unto the great river, the river Perath. |
| [8]BeholdH7200[H8798], I have setH5414[H8804] the landH776 beforeH6440 you: goH935[H8798] in and possessH3423[H8798] the landH776 which the LORDH3068 swareH7650[H8738] unto your fathersH1, AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290, to giveH5414[H8800] unto them and to their seedH2233 after themH310. |
[8]Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess that land which the Lord swear unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them. |
| [9]And I spakeH559[H8799] unto you at that timeH6256, sayingH559[H8800], I am not ableH3201[H8799] to bearH5375[H8800] you myself aloneH905: |
[9]And I spake unto you the same time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone: |
| [10]The LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath multipliedH7235[H8689] you, and, behold, ye are this dayH3117 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064 for multitudeH7230. |
[10]The Lord your God hath multiplied you: and behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven in number: |
| [11](The LORDH3068 GodH430 of your fathersH1 make you a thousandH505 timesH6471 so many more asH3254[H8686] ye are, and blessH1288[H8762] you, as he hath promisedH1696 youH8765!) |
[11](The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you) |
| [12]HowH349 can I myself alone bearH5375[H8799] your cumbranceH2960, and your burdenH4853, and your strifeH7379? |
[12]How can I alone bear your cumbrance and your charge, and your strife? |
| [13]TakeH3051[H8798] you wiseH2450 menH582, and understandingH995[H8737], and knownH3045[H8803] among your tribesH7626, and I will makeH7760[H8799] them rulers over youH7218. |
[13]Bring you men of wisdom and of understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you: |
| [14]And ye answeredH6030[H8799] me, and saidH559[H8799], The thingH1697 which thou hast spokenH1696[H8765] is goodH2896 for us to doH6213.[H8800] |
[14]Then ye answered me and said, The thing is good that thou hast commanded us to do. |
| [15]So I tookH3947[H8799] the chiefH7218 of your tribesH7626, wiseH2450 menH582, and knownH3045[H8803], and madeH5414[H8799] them headsH7218 over you, captainsH8269 over thousandsH505, and captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967, and captainsH8269 over fiftiesH2572, and captainsH8269 over tensH6235, and officersH7860[H8802] among your tribesH7626. |
[15]So I took the chief of your tribes wise and known men, and made them rulers over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifty, and captains over ten, and officers among your tribes. |
| [16]And I chargedH6680[H8762] your judgesH8199[H8802] at that timeH6256, sayingH559[H8800], HearH8085[H8800] the causes between your brethrenH251, and judgeH8199[H8804] righteouslyH6664 between every manH376 and his brotherH251, and the stranger that is with himH1616. |
[16]And I charged your judges that same time, saying, Hear the controversies between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. |
| [17]Ye shall not respectH5234[H8686] personsH6440 in judgmentH4941; but ye shall hearH8085[H8799] the smallH6996 as well as the greatH1419; ye shall not be afraidH1481[H8799] of the faceH6440 of manH376; for the judgmentH4941 is God'sH430: and the causeH1697 that is too hardH7185[H8799] for you, bringH7126[H8686] it unto me, and I will hearH8085 itH8804. |
[17]Ye shall have no respect of person in judgment, but shall hear the small as well as the great: ye shall not fear the face of man: for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring unto me, and I will hear it. |
| [18]And I commandedH6680[H8762] you at that timeH6256 all the thingsH1697 which ye should doH6213.[H8799] |
[18]Also I commanded you the same time all the things which ye should do. |
| [19]And when we departedH5265[H8799] from HorebH2722, we went throughH3212[H8799] all that greatH1419 and terribleH3372[H8737] wildernessH4057, which ye sawH7200[H8804] by the wayH1870 of the mountainH2022 of the AmoritesH567, as the LORDH3068 our GodH430 commandedH6680[H8765] us; and we cameH935[H8799] to KadeshbarneaH6947. |
[19]Then we departed from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness (as ye have seen) by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded us: and we came to Kadesh-barnea. |
| [20]And I saidH559[H8799] unto you, Ye are comeH935[H8804] unto the mountainH2022 of the AmoritesH567, which the LORDH3068 our GodH430 doth giveH5414 unto usH8802. |
[20]And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the Lord our God doth give unto us. |
| [21]BeholdH7200[H8798], the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath setH5414[H8804] the landH776 beforeH6440 thee: go upH5927[H8798] and possessH3423[H8798] it, as the LORDH3068 GodH430 of thy fathersH1 hath saidH1696[H8765] unto thee; fearH3372[H8799] not, neither be discouragedH2865.[H8735] |
[21]Behold, the Lord thy God hath laid the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord the God of thy fathers hath said unto thee: fear not, neither be discouraged. |
| [22]And ye came nearH7126[H8799] unto me every one of you, and saidH559[H8799], We will sendH7971[H8799] menH582 beforeH6440 us, and they shall search us outH2658[H8799] the landH776, and bringH7725 us wordH1697 againH7725[H8686] by what wayH1870 we must go upH5927[H8799], and into what citiesH5892 we shall comeH935.[H8799] |
[22]Then ye came unto me every one, and said, We will send men before us, to search us out the land and to bring us word again, what way we must go up by, and unto what cities we shall come. |
| [23]And the sayingH1697 pleased me wellH3190[H8799][H5869]: and I tookH3947[H8799] twelveH8147[H6240] menH582 of you, oneH259 of a tribeH376:[H7626] |
[23]So the saying pleased me well, and I took twelve men of you, of every tribe one. |
| [24]And they turnedH6437[H8799] and went upH5927[H8799] into the mountainH2022, and cameH935[H8799] unto the valleyH5158 of EshcolH812, and searched it outH7270.[H8762] |
[24]Who departed, and went up into the mountain, and came unto the river Eshcol, and searched out the land. |
| [25]And they tookH3947[H8799] of the fruitH6529 of the landH776 in their handsH3027, and brought it downH3381[H8686] unto us, and broughtH7725 us wordH1697 againH7725[H8686], and saidH559[H8799], It is a goodH2896 landH776 which the LORDH3068 our GodH430 doth giveH5414 usH8802. |
[25]And took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land, which the Lord our God doth give us. |
| [26]Notwithstanding ye wouldH14[H8804] not go upH5927[H8800], but rebelledH4784[H8686] against the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430: |
[26]Notwithstanding, ye would not go up, but were disobedient unto the commandment of the Lord your God, |
| [27]And ye murmuredH7279[H8735] in your tentsH168, and saidH559[H8799], Because the LORDH3068 hatedH8135 us, he hath brought us forthH3318[H8689] out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, to deliverH5414[H8800] us into the handH3027 of the AmoritesH567, to destroyH8045 usH8687. |
[27]And murmured in your tents, and said, Because the Lord hated us, therefore hath he brought us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, and to destroy us. |
| [28]Whither shall we go upH5927[H8802]? our brethrenH251 have discouragedH4549[H8689] our heartH3824, sayingH559[H8800], The peopleH5971 is greaterH1419 and tallerH7311[H8802] than we; the citiesH5892 are greatH1419 and walled upH1219[H8803] to heavenH8064; and moreover we have seenH7200[H8804] the sonsH1121 of the Anakims thereH6062. |
[28]Whither shall we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, The people is greater, and taller than we: the cities are great and walled up to heaven: and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there. |
| [29]Then I saidH559[H8799] unto you, DreadH6206[H8799] not, neither be afraidH3372 of themH8799. |
[29]But I said unto you, Dread not, nor be afraid of them. |
| [30]The LORDH3068 your GodH430 which goethH1980[H8802] beforeH6440 you, he shall fightH3898[H8735] for you, according to all that he didH6213[H8804] for you in EgyptH4714 before your eyesH5869; |
[30]The Lord your God, who goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did unto you in Egypt before your eyes, |
| [31]And in the wildernessH4057, where thou hast seenH7200[H8804] how that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 bareH5375[H8804] thee, as a manH376 doth bearH5375[H8799] his sonH1121, in all the wayH1870 that ye wentH1980[H8804], until ye cameH935[H8800] into this placeH4725. |
[31]And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how the Lord thy God bear thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way which ye have gone, until ye came unto this place. |
| [32]Yet in this thingH1697 ye did not believeH539[H8688] the LORDH3068 your GodH430, |
[32]Yet for all this ye did not believe the Lord your God, |
| [33]Who wentH1980[H8802] in the wayH1870 beforeH6440 you, to search you outH8446[H8800] a placeH4725 to pitch your tentsH2583[H8800] in, in fireH784 by nightH3915, to shewH7200[H8687] you by what wayH1870 ye should goH3212[H8799], and in a cloudH6051 by dayH3119. |
[33]Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, that ye might see what way to go, and in a cloud by day. |
| [34]And the LORDH3068 heardH8085[H8799] the voiceH6963 of your wordsH1697, and was wrothH7107[H8799], and swareH7650[H8735], sayingH559,[H8800] |
[34]Then the Lord heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swear, saying, |
| [35]Surely there shall not oneH376 of these menH582 of this evilH7451 generationH1755 seeH7200[H8799] that goodH2896 landH776, which I swareH7650[H8738] to giveH5414[H8800] unto your fathersH1, |
[35]Surely there shall not one of these men of this froward generation, see that good land, which I swear to give unto your fathers, |
| [36]SaveH2108 CalebH3612 the sonH1121 of JephunnehH3312; he shall seeH7200[H8799] it, and to him will I giveH5414[H8799] the landH776 thatH834 he hath trodden uponH1869[H8804], and to his childrenH1121, because he hath whollyH4390[H8765] followedH310 the LORDH3068. |
[36]Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh: he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath constantly followed the Lord. |
| [37]Also the LORDH3068 was angryH599[H8694] with me for your sakesH1558, sayingH559[H8800], Thou also shalt not goH935[H8799] in thitherH8033. |
[37]Also the Lord was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither, |
| [38]But JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, which standethH5975[H8802] beforeH6440 thee, he shall go inH935[H8799] thither: encourageH2388[H8761] him: for he shall cause IsraelH3478 to inheritH5157 itH8686. |
[38]But Joshua the son of Nun which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. |
| [39]Moreover your little onesH2945, which ye saidH559[H8804] should be a preyH957, and your childrenH1121, which in that dayH3117 had no knowledgeH3045[H8804] between goodH2896 and evilH7451, they shall go inH935[H8799] thither, and unto them will I giveH5414[H8799] it, and they shall possessH3423 itH8799. |
[39]Moreover, your children, which ye said should be a prey, and your sons, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it. |
| [40]But as for you, turnH6437[H8798] you, and take your journeyH5265[H8798] into the wildernessH4057 by the wayH1870 of the RedH5488 seaH3220. |
[40]But as for you, turn back, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. |
| [41]Then ye answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799] unto me, We have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068, we will go upH5927[H8799] and fightH3898[H8738], according to all that the LORDH3068 our GodH430 commandedH6680[H8765] us. And when ye had girdedH2296[H8799] on every manH376 his weaponsH3627 of warH4421, ye were readyH1951[H8686] to go upH5927[H8800] into the hillH2022. |
[41]Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the Lord, we will go up, and fight, according to all that the Lord our God hath commanded us: and ye armed you every man to the war, and were ready to go up into the mountain. |
| [42]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto me, SayH559[H8798] unto them, Go not upH5927[H8799], neither fightH3898[H8735]; for I am not amongH7130 you; lest ye be smittenH5062[H8735] beforeH6440 your enemiesH341.[H8802] |
[42]But the Lord said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight, (for I am not among you) lest ye fall before your enemies. |
| [43]So I spakeH1696[H8762] unto you; and ye would not hearH8085[H8804], but rebelledH4784[H8686] against the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068, and wentH5927 presumptuouslyH2102[H8686] upH5927[H8799] into the hillH2022. |
[43]And when I told you, ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord, and were presumptuous, and went up into the mountain. |
| [44]And the AmoritesH567, which dweltH3427[H8802] in that mountainH2022, came outH3318[H8799] againstH7125[H8800] you, and chasedH7291[H8799] you, as beesH1682 doH6213[H8799], and destroyedH3807[H8686] you in SeirH8165, even unto HormahH2767. |
[44]Then the Amorites which dwelt in that mountain came out against you, and chased you (as bees used to do) and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah. |
| [45]And ye returnedH7725[H8799] and weptH1058[H8799] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068; but the LORDH3068 would not hearkenH8085[H8804] to your voiceH6963, nor give earH238 unto youH8689. |
[45]And when ye came again, ye wept before the Lord, but the Lord would not hear your voice, nor incline his ears unto you. |
| [46]So ye abodeH3427[H8799] in KadeshH6946 manyH7227 daysH3117, according unto the daysH3117 that ye abodeH3427 thereH8804. |
[46]So ye abode in Kadesh a long time, according to the time that ye had remained before. |
