[1]HearH8085[H8798], O IsraelH3478: Thou art to pass overH5674[H8802] JordanH3383 this dayH3117, to go inH935[H8800] to possessH3423[H8800] nationsH1471 greaterH1419 and mightierH6099 than thyself, citiesH5892 greatH1419 and fenced upH1219[H8803] to heavenH8064, [1]Hear O Israel, Thou shalt pass over Jordan this day, to go in and to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, and cities great and walled up to heaven,
[2]A peopleH5971 greatH1419 and tallH7311[H8802], the childrenH1121 of the AnakimsH6062, whom thou knowestH3045[H8804], and of whom thou hast heardH8085[H8804] say, Who can standH3320[H8691] beforeH6440 the childrenH1121 of AnakH6061! [2]A people great and tall, even the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak?
[3]UnderstandH3045[H8804] therefore this dayH3117, that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 is he which goeth overH5674[H8802] beforeH6440 thee; as a consumingH398[H8802] fireH784 he shall destroyH8045[H8686] them, and he shall bring them downH3665[H8686] before thy faceH6440: so shalt thou drive them outH3423[H8689], and destroyH6[H8689] them quicklyH4118, as the LORDH3068 hath saidH1696 unto theeH8765. [3]Understand therefore that this day the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee as a consuming fire: he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so thou shalt cast them out and destroy them suddenly, as the Lord hath said unto thee.
[4]SpeakH559[H8799] not thou in thine heartH3824, after that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath cast them outH1920[H8800] from beforeH6440 thee, sayingH559[H8800], For my righteousnessH6666 the LORDH3068 hath brought me inH935[H8689] to possessH3423[H8800] this landH776: but for the wickednessH7564 of these nationsH1471 the LORDH3068 doth drive them outH3423[H8688] from before theeH6440. [4]Speak not thou in thine heart (after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out before thee) saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in, to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord hath cast them out before thee.
[5]Not for thy righteousnessH6666, or for the uprightnessH3476 of thine heartH3824, dost thou goH935[H8802] to possessH3423[H8800] their landH776: but for the wickednessH7564 of these nationsH1471 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 doth drive them outH3423[H8688] from beforeH6440 thee, and that he may performH6965[H8687] the wordH1697 which the LORDH3068 swareH7650[H8738] unto thy fathersH1, AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290. [5]For thou enterest not to inherit their land for thy righteousness, or for thy upright heart: but for the wickedness of those nations, the Lord thy God doth cast them out before thee, and that he might perform the word which the Lord thy God swear unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
[6]UnderstandH3045[H8804] therefore, that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 givethH5414[H8802] thee not this goodH2896 landH776 to possessH3423[H8800] it for thy righteousnessH6666; for thou art a stiffneckedH6203[H7186] peopleH5971. [6]Understand therefore, that the Lord thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness: for thou art a stiff necked people.
[7]RememberH2142[H8798], and forgetH7911[H8799] not, how thou provokedst the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 to wrathH7107[H8689] in the wildernessH4057: fromH4480 the dayH3117 that thou didst depart outH3318[H8804] of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, until ye cameH935[H8800] unto this placeH4725, ye have been rebelliousH4784[H8688] againstH5973 the LORDH3068. [7]Remember, and forget not, how thou provokest the Lord thy God to anger in the wilderness: since the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place ye have rebelled against the Lord.
[8]Also in HorebH2722 ye provokedH7107 the LORDH3068 to wrathH7107[H8689], so that the LORDH3068 was angryH599[H8691] with you to have destroyedH8045 youH8687. [8]Also in Horeb ye provoked the Lord to anger so that the Lord was wroth with you, even to destroy you.
[9]When I was gone upH5927[H8800] into the mountH2022 to receiveH3947[H8800] the tablesH3871 of stoneH68, even the tablesH3871 of the covenantH1285 which the LORDH3068 madeH3772[H8804] with you, then I abodeH3427[H8799] in the mountH2022 fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915, I neither did eatH398[H8804] breadH3899 nor drinkH8354[H8804] waterH4325: [9]When I was gone up into the mount, to receive the tables of stone, the tables , I say, of the covenant, which the Lord made with you: and I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, and I neither ate bread nor yet drank water:
[10]And the LORDH3068 deliveredH5414[H8799] unto me twoH8147 tablesH3871 of stoneH68 writtenH3789[H8803] with the fingerH676 of GodH430; and on them was written according to all the wordsH1697, which the LORDH3068 spakeH1696[H8765] with you in the mountH2022 out of the midstH8432 of the fireH784 in the dayH3117 of the assemblyH6951. [10]Then the Lord delivered me two tables of stone, written with the finger of God, and in them was contained according to all the words which the Lord had said unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.
[11]And it came to pass at the endH7093 of fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915, that the LORDH3068 gaveH5414[H8804] me the twoH8147 tablesH3871 of stoneH68, even the tablesH3871 of the covenantH1285. [11]And when the forty days and forty nights were ended, the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, the tables, I say, of the covenant.
[12]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto me, AriseH6965[H8798], get thee downH3381[H8798] quicklyH4118 from hence; for thy peopleH5971 which thou hast brought forthH3318[H8689] out of EgyptH4714 have corruptedH7843[H8765] themselves; they are quicklyH4118 turned asideH5493[H8804] out of the wayH1870 which I commandedH6680[H8765] them; they have madeH6213[H8804] them a molten imageH4541. [12]And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence: for thy people which thou hast brought out of Egypt, have corrupt their ways: they are soon turned out of the way, which I commanded them: they have made them a molten image.
[13]Furthermore the LORDH3068 spakeH559[H8799] unto me, sayingH559[H8800], I have seenH7200[H8804] this peopleH5971, and, behold, it is a stiffneckedH6203[H7186] peopleH5971: [13]Furthermore, the Lord spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff necked people.
[14]Let me aloneH7503[H8685], that I may destroyH8045[H8686] them, and blot outH4229[H8799] their nameH8034 from under heavenH8064: and I will makeH6213[H8799] ofH854 thee a nationH1471 mightierH6099 and greater than theyH7227. [14]Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and put out their name from under heaven, and I will make of thee a mighty nation, and greater than they be.
[15]So I turnedH6437[H8799] and came downH3381[H8799] from the mountH2022, and the mountH2022 burnedH1197[H8802] with fireH784: and the twoH8147 tablesH3871 of the covenantH1285 were in my twoH8147 handsH3027. [15]So I returned, and came down from the mount (and the mount burned with fire, and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands)
[16]And I lookedH7200[H8799], and, behold, ye had sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and had madeH6213[H8804] you a moltenH4541 calfH5695: ye had turned asideH5493[H8804] quicklyH4118 out of the wayH1870 which the LORDH3068 had commandedH6680 youH8765. [16]Then I looked, and behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God: for ye had made you a molten calf, and had turned quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
[17]And I tookH8610[H8799] the twoH8147 tablesH3871, and castH7993[H8686] them out ofH5921 my twoH8147 handsH3027, and brakeH7665[H8762] them before your eyesH5869. [17]Therefore I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and break them before your eyes.
[18]And I fell downH5307[H8691] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, as at the firstH7223, fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915: I did neither eatH398[H8804] breadH3899, nor drinkH8354[H8804] waterH4325, because of all your sinsH2403 which ye sinnedH2398[H8804], in doingH6213[H8800] wickedlyH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, to provoke him to angerH3707.[H8687] [18]And I fell down before the Lord, forty days, and forty nights, as before: I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sins, which ye had committed, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, in that ye provoked him unto wrath.
[19]For I was afraidH3025[H8804] ofH6440 the angerH639 and hot displeasureH2534, wherewith the LORDH3068 was wrothH7107[H8804] against you to destroyH8045[H8687] you. But the LORDH3068 hearkenedH8085[H8799] unto me at that time alsoH6471. [19](For I was afraid of the wrath and indignation, wherewith the Lord was moved against you, even to destroy you) yet the Lord heard me at that time also.
[20]And the LORDH3068 was veryH3966 angryH599[H8694] with AaronH175 to have destroyedH8045[H8687] him: and I prayedH6419[H8691] for AaronH175 also the same timeH6256. [20]Likewise the Lord was very angry with Aaron, even to destroy him: but at that time I prayed also for Aaron.
[21]And I tookH3947[H8804] your sinH2403, the calfH5695 which ye had madeH6213[H8804], and burntH8313[H8799] it with fireH784, and stampedH3807[H8799] it, and groundH2912[H8800] it very smallH3190[H8687], even until it was as smallH1854[H8804] as dustH6083: and I castH7993[H8686] the dustH6083 thereof into the brookH5158 that descended outH3381[H8802] of the mountH2022. [21]And I took your sin , I mean the calf which ye had made, and burned him with fire, and stamped him and ground him small, even unto very dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the river, that descended out of the mount.
[22]And at TaberahH8404, and at MassahH4532, and at KibrothhattaavahH6914, ye provoked the LORDH3068 to wrathH7107.[H8688] [22]Also in Taberah, and in Massah and in Kibrothhattaavah ye provoked the Lord to anger.
[23]Likewise when the LORDH3068 sentH7971[H8800] you from KadeshbarneaH6947, sayingH559[H8800], Go upH5927[H8798] and possessH3423[H8798] the landH776 which I have givenH5414[H8804] you; then ye rebelledH4784[H8686] against the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and ye believedH539[H8689] him not, nor hearkenedH8085[H8804] to his voiceH6963. [23]Likewise when the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up, and possess the land which I have given you, then ye rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and believed him not, nor hearkened unto his voice.
[24]Ye have been rebelliousH4784[H8688] against the LORDH3068 from the dayH3117 that I knewH3045 youH8800. [24]Ye have been rebellious unto the Lord, since the day that I knew you.
[25]Thus I fell downH5307[H8691] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915, as I fell downH5307[H8694] at the first; because the LORDH3068 had saidH559[H8804] he would destroyH8045 youH8687. [25]Then I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights, as I fell down before, because the Lord had said, that he would destroy you.
[26]I prayedH6419[H8691] therefore unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799], O LordH136 GODH3069, destroyH7843[H8686] not thy peopleH5971 and thine inheritanceH5159, which thou hast redeemedH6299[H8804] through thy greatnessH1433, which thou hast brought forthH3318[H8689] out of EgyptH4714 with a mightyH2389 handH3027. [26]And I prayed unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, whom thou hast brought out of Egypt by a mighty hand.
[27]RememberH2142[H8798] thy servantsH5650, AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290; lookH6437[H8799] not unto the stubbornnessH7190 of this peopleH5971, nor to their wickednessH7562, nor to their sinH2403: [27]Remember thy servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,
[28]Lest the landH776 whence thou broughtest us outH3318[H8689] sayH559[H8799], Because the LORDH3068 was not ableH3201[H8800] to bringH935[H8687] them into the landH776 which he promisedH1696[H8765] them, and because he hatedH8135 them, he hath brought them outH3318[H8689] to slayH4191[H8687] them in the wildernessH4057. [28]Lest the country, whence thou broughtest them, say, Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, or because he hated them, he carried them out, to slay them in the wilderness.
[29]Yet they are thy peopleH5971 and thine inheritanceH5159, which thou broughtest outH3318[H8689] by thy mightyH1419 powerH3581 and by thy stretched outH5186[H8803] armH2220. [29]Yet they are thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power, and by thy stretched out arm.
