| [1]Forsothe in the valei of Mambre the Lord apperide to Abraham, sittynge in the dore of his tabernacle, in thilke heete of the dai. |
[1]And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 H8735unto him in the plainsH436 of MamreH4471: and he satH3427 H8802in the tentH168 doorH6607 in the heatH2527 of the dayH3117; |
| [2]And whanne he hadde reisid his iyen, thre men apperiden to hym, and stoden nyy hym. And whanne he hadde seyn hem, he ran fro the dore of his tabernacle in to the meting of hem, and he worschipide on erthe, |
[2]And he lift upH5375 H8799his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200 , H8799and, lo, threeH7969 menH582 stoodH5324 H8737by him: and when he sawH7200 H8799them, he ranH7323 H8799to meetH7125 H8800them from the tentH168 doorH6607, and bowedH7812 H8691himself toward the groundH776, |
| [3]and seide, Lord, if Y haue founde grace in thin iyen, passe thou not thi seruaunt, |
[3]And saidH559 , H8799My LordH136, if now I have foundH4672 H8804favourH2580 in thy sightH5869, pass not awayH5674 , H8799I pray thee, from thy servantH5650: |
| [4]but I schal brynge a litil watir, and youre feet be waischid, and reste ye vndur the tre; |
[4]Let a littleH4592 waterH4325, I pray youH4994, be fetchedH3947 , H8714and washH7364 H8798your feetH7272, and rest yourselvesH8172 H8734under the treeH6086: |
| [5]and Y schal sette a mussel of breed, and youre herte be coumfortid; aftirward ye schulen passe; for herfor ye bowiden to youre seruaunt. Whiche seiden, Do thou as thou hast spoke. |
[5]And I will fetchH3947 H8799a morselH6595 of breadH3899, and comfort yeH5582 H8798your heartsH3820; after thatH310 ye shall pass onH5674 : H8799for therefore are ye comeH5674 H8804toH5921 your servantH5650. And they saidH1696 , H8765So doH6213 , H8799as thou hast saidH559.[H8799] |
| [6]Abraham hastide in to the tabernacle, to Sare, and seide to hir, Hast thou, meddle thou thre half buschelis of clene flour; and make thou looues bakun vndur aischis. |
[6]And AbrahamH85 hastenedH4116 H8762into the tentH168 unto SarahH8283, and saidH559 , H8799Make ready quicklyH4116 H8761threeH7969 measuresH5429 of fineH5560 mealH7058, kneadH3888 H8798it, and makeH6213 cakesH5692 upon the hearthH6213.[H8798] |
| [7]Forsothe he ran to the droue of beestis, and took therof a calf moost tendre and best, and yaf to a child, which hastide, and sethede the calfe; |
[7]And AbrahamH85 ranH7323 H8804unto the herdH1241, and fetchtH3947 H8799a calfH1121 H1241tenderH7390 and goodH2896, and gaveH5414 H8799it unto a young manH5288; and he hastedH4116 H8762to dressH6213 itH8800. |
| [8]and he took botere, and mylk, and the calf which he hadde sode, and settide bifore hem; forsothe Abraham stood bisidis hem vndur the tre. |
[8]And he tookH3947 H8799butterH2529, and milkH2461, and the calfH1121 H1241which he had dressedH6213 , H8804and setH5414 H8799it before themH6440; and he stoodH5975 H8802by them under the treeH6086, and they did eatH398.[H8799] |
| [9]And whanne thei hadden ete, thei seiden to hym, Where is Sare thi wijf? He answerde, Lo! sche is in the tabernacle. |
[9]And they saidH559 H8799unto him, WhereH346 is SarahH8283 thy wifeH802? And he saidH559 , H8799Behold, in the tentH168. |
| [10]To whom the Lord seide, Y schal turne ayen, and Y schal come to thee in this tyme, if Y lyue; and Sare, thi wijf, schal haue a sone. Whanne this was herd, Sare leiyede bihynde the dore of the tabernacle. |
[10]And he saidH559 , H8799I will certainlyH7725 H8800returnH7725 H8799unto thee according to the timeH6256 of lifeH2416; and, lo, SarahH8283 thy wifeH802 shall have a sonH1121. And SarahH8283 heardH8085 H8802it in the tentH168 doorH6607, which was behind himH310. |
| [11]Forsothe bothe weren olde, and of greet age, and wommans termes ceessiden to be maad to Sare. |
[11]Now AbrahamH85 and SarahH8283 were oldH2205 and well strickenH935 H8802in ageH3117; and it ceasedH2308 H8804to be with SarahH8283 after the mannerH734 of womenH802. |
| [12]And she leiyede, seiynge pryueli, after that Y wexede eld, and my lord is eld, schal Y yyue diligence to lust? |
[12]Therefore SarahH8283 laughedH6711 H8799within herselfH7130, sayingH559 , H8800AfterH310 I am waxed oldH1086 H8800shall I have pleasureH5730, my lordH113 being old alsoH2204?[H8804] |
| [13]Forsothe the Lord seide to Abraham, Whi leiyeth Sare, thi wijf, seiynge, whether Y an eld womman schal bere child verili? |
[13]And the LORDH3068 saidH559 H8799unto AbrahamH85, WhereforeH4100 did SarahH8283 laughH6711 , H8804sayingH559 , H8800Shall I of a suretyH552 bearH3205 H8799a child, whichH589 am oldH2204?[H8804] |
| [14]whether ony thing is hard to God? Bi the biheeste Y schal turne ayen to thee in this same tyme, if Y lyue; and Sara schal haue a sone. |
[14]IsH6381 any thingH1697 too hardH6381 H8735for the LORDH3068? At the time appointedH4150 I will returnH7725 H8799unto thee, according to the timeH6256 of lifeH2416, and SarahH8283 shall have a sonH1121. |
| [15]Sare was aferd for drede, and denyede, seiynge, Y leiyede not. Forsothe the Lord seide, It is not so, but thou leiyedist. |
[15]Then SarahH8283 deniedH3584 , H8762sayingH559 , H8800I laughedH6711 H8804not; for she was afraidH3372 . H8804And he saidH559 , H8799NayH3808; but thou didst laughH6711.[H8804] |
| [16]Therfor whanne the men hadden risen fro thennus, thei dressiden the iyen ayens Sodom; and Abraham yede to gidre, ledynge hem forth. |
[16]And the menH582 rose upH6965 H8799from thence, and lookedH8259 H8686towardH6440 SodomH5467: and AbrahamH85 wentH1980 H8802with them to bring them on the wayH7971.[H8763] |
| [17]And the Lord seide, Wher Y mowe hele fro Abraham what thingis Y schal do, |
[17]And the LORDH3068 saidH559 , H8804Shall I hideH3680 H8764from AbrahamH85 that thing whichH834 I doH6213;[H8802] |
| [18]sithen he schal be in to a greet folk and moost strong, and alle naciouns of erthe schulen be blessid in hym? |
[18]Seeing that AbrahamH85 shall surely become a greatH1419 and mightyH6099 nationH1471, and all the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 shall be blessedH1288 in himH8738? |
| [19]For Y woot that Abraham schal comaunde hise children, and his hows after hym, that thei kepe the weie of the Lord, and that thei do riytfulnesse and dom, that the Lord bringe for Abraham alle thingis whiche he spak to Abraham. |
[19]For I knowH3045 H8804him, thatH834 he will commandH6680 H8762his childrenH1121 and his householdH1004 after himH310, and they shall keepH8104 H8804the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068, to doH6213 H8800justiceH6666 and judgmentH4941; that the LORDH3068 may bringH935 H8687upon AbrahamH85 that which he hath spokenH1696 of himH8765. |
| [20]And so the Lord seide, The cry of men of Sodom and of men of Gomorre is multiplied, and her synne is agreggid greetli; Y schal come doun, |
[20]And the LORDH3068 saidH559 , H8799Because the cryH2201 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 is greatH7227, and because their sinH2403 is veryH3966 grievousH3513;[H8804] |
| [21]and schal se whether thei han fillid in werk the cry that cam to me, that Y wite whether it is not so. |
[21]I will go downH3381 H8799now, and seeH7200 H8799whether they have doneH6213 H8804altogetherH3617 according to the cryH6818 of it, which is comeH935 H8802unto me; and if not, I will knowH3045.[H8799] |
| [22]And thei turneden han fro thennus, and yeden to Sodom. Abraham sotheli stood yit bifore the Lord, |
[22]And the menH582 turned their facesH6437 H8799from thence, and wentH3212 H8799toward SodomH5467: but AbrahamH85 stoodH5975 H8802yetH5750 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. |
| [23]and neiyede, and seide, Whether thou schalt leese a iust man with the wickid man? |
[23]And AbrahamH85 drew nearH5066 , H8799and saidH559 , H8799Wilt thou also destroyH5595 H8799the righteousH6662 withH5973 the wickedH7563? |
| [24]if fifti iust men ben in the citee, schulen thei perische togidere, and schalt thou not spare that place for fifti iust men, if thei ben ther ynne? |
[24]Peradventure there beH3426 fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 withinH8432 the cityH5892: wilt thou also destroyH5595 H8799and not spareH5375 H8799the placeH4725 forH4616 the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 that are thereinH7130? |
| [25]Fer be it fro thee that thou do this thing, and sle a iust man with a wickid man, and that a iust man be maad as a wickid man; this is not thin that demest al erthe; thou schalt not make this doom. |
[25]That be farH2486 from thee to doH6213 H8800after this mannerH1697, to slayH4191 H8687the righteousH6662 with the wickedH7563: and that the righteousH6662 should be as the wickedH7563, that be farH2486 from thee: Shall not the JudgeH8199 H8802of all the earthH776 doH6213 H8799rightH4941? |
| [26]And the Lord seide to him, If Y schal fynde in Sodom fifti iust men in the myddis of the citee, Y schal foryyue to al the place for hem. |
[26]And the LORDH3068 saidH559 , H8799If I findH4672 H8799in SodomH5467 fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 withinH8432 the cityH5892, then I will spareH5375 H8804all the place for their sakesH4725. |
| [27]Abraham answerde and seide, For Y bigan onys, Y schal speke to my Lord, sithen Y am dust and aische; |
[27]And AbrahamH85 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 , H8799Behold now, I have taken upon meH2974 H8689to speakH1696 H8763unto the LordH136, whichH595 am but dustH6083 and ashesH665: |
| [28]what if lesse than fifti iust men bi fyue ben, schalt thou do a wey al the cite for fyue and fourti? And the Lord seide, Y schal not do a wei, if I schal fynde fyue and fourti there. |
[28]Peradventure there shall lackH2637 H8799fiveH2568 of the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662: wilt thou destroyH7843 H8686all the cityH5892 for lack of fiveH2568? And he saidH559 , H8799If I findH4672 H8799there fortyH705 and fiveH2568, I will not destroyH7843 itH8686. |
| [29]And eft Abraham seide to hym, But if fourti ben there, what schalt thou do? The Lord seide, Y schal not smyte for fourti. |
[29]And he spakeH1696 H8763unto him yet againH3254 , H8686and saidH559 , H8799Peradventure there shall be fortyH705 foundH4672 H8735there. And he saidH559 , H8799I will not doH6213 H8799it for forty's sakeH705. |
| [30]Abraham seide, Lord, Y biseche, take thou not to indignacioun, if Y speke; what if thretti be foundun there? The Lord answerde, Y schal not do, if Y schal fynde thretti there. |
[30]And he saidH559 H8799unto him, OhH4994 let not the LordH136 be angryH2734 , H8799and I will speakH1696 : H8762Peradventure there shall thirtyH7970 be foundH4672 H8735there. And he saidH559 , H8799I will not doH6213 H8799it, if I findH4672 H8799thirty thereH7970. |
| [31]Abraham seide, For Y bigan onys, Y schal speke to my Lord; what if twenti be foundun there? The Lord seide, Y schal not sle for twenti. |
[31]And he saidH559 , H8799Behold now, I have taken upon meH2974 H8689to speakH1696 H8763unto the LordH136: Peradventure there shall be twentyH6242 foundH4672 H8735there. And he saidH559 , H8799I will not destroyH7843 H8686it for twenty's sakeH6242. |
| [32]Abraham seide, Lord, Y biseche, be thou not wrooth, if Y speke yit onys; what if ten be founden there? The Lord seide, Y schal not do a wey for ten. |
[32]And he saidH559 , H8799Oh let not the LordH136 be angryH2734 , H8799and I will speakH1696 H8762yetH389 but this onceH6471: Peradventure tenH6235 shall be foundH4672 H8735there. And he saidH559 , H8799I will not destroyH7843 H8686it for ten's sakeH6235. |
| [33]The Lord yede forth, after that he ceesside to speke to Abraham, and Abraham turnede ayen in to his place. |
[33]And the LORDH3068 went his wayH3212 , H8799as soon asH834 he had leftH3615 H8765communingH1696 H8763with AbrahamH85: and AbrahamH85 returnedH7725 H8804unto his placeH4725. |
