| [1]Therfor Jacob passide forth, and cam in to the eest lond; |
[1]Then JacobH3290 went onH5375 H8799his journeyH7272, and cameH3212 H8799into the landH776 of the peopleH1121 of the eastH6924. |
| [2]and seiy a pit in the feeld, and thre flockis of scheep restynge bisidis it, for whi scheep weren watrid therof, and the mouth therof was closid with a greet stoon. |

| [3]And the custom was that whanne alle scheep weren gaderid togidere, thei schulden turne awei the stoon, and whanne the flockis weren fillid thei schulden put it eft on the mouth of the pit. |
[3]And thither were all the flocksH5739 gatheredH622 : H8738and they rolledH1556 H8804the stoneH68 from the well'sH875 mouthH6310, and wateredH8248 H8689the sheepH6629, and putH7725 the stoneH68 againH7725 H8689upon the well'sH875 mouthH6310 in his placeH4725. |
| [4]And Jacob seide to the scheepherdis, Brithren, of whennus ben ye? Whiche answeriden, Of Aran. |
[4]And JacobH3290 saidH559 H8799unto them, My brethrenH251, whenceH370 be ye? And they saidH559 , H8799Of Haran are weH2771. |
| [5]And he axide hem and seide, Wher ye knowen Laban, the sone of Nachor? Thei seiden, We knowen. |
[5]And he saidH559 H8799unto them, KnowH3045 H8804ye LabanH3837 the sonH1121 of NahorH5152? And they saidH559 , H8799We knowH3045 himH8804. |
| [6]Jacob seide, Is he hool? Thei seiden, He is in good staat; and lo! Rachel, his douytir, cometh with his flok. |
[6]And he saidH559 H8799unto them, Is he wellH7965? And they saidH559 , H8799He is wellH7965: and, behold, RachelH7354 his daughterH1323 comethH935 H8802with the sheepH6629. |
| [7]And Jacob seide, Yit myche of the dai is to come, and it is not tyme that the flockis be led ayen to the fooldis; sotheli yyue ye drynk to the scheep, and so lede ye hem ayen to mete. |
[7]And he saidH559 , H8799LoH2005, it is yet highH1419 dayH3117, neither is it timeH6256 that the cattleH4735 should be gathered togetherH622 : H8736waterH8248 H8685ye the sheepH6629, and goH3212 H8798and feedH7462 themH8798. |
| [8]Whiche answeriden, We moun not til alle scheep be gederid to gidere, and til we remouen the stoon fro the mouth of the pit to watir the flockis. |
[8]And they saidH559 , H8799We cannotH3201 , H8799until all the flocksH5739 be gathered togetherH622 , H8735and till they rollH1556 H8804the stoneH68 from the well'sH875 mouthH6310; then we waterH8248 H8689the sheepH6629. |
| [9]Yit thei spaken, and lo! Rachel cam with the scheep of hir fadir. |
[9]And while he yetH5750 spakeH1696 H8764with them, RachelH7354 cameH935 H8804with her father'sH1 sheepH6629: for she kept themH7462.[H8802] |
| [10]And whanne Jacob seiy hir, and knewe the douytir of his modris brothir, and the scheep of Laban his vncle, he remeuyde the stoon with which the pit was closid; |
[10]And it came to pass, when JacobH3290 sawH7200 H8804RachelH7354 the daughterH1323 of LabanH3837 his mother'sH517 brotherH251, and the sheepH6629 of LabanH3837 his mother'sH517 brotherH251, that JacobH3290 went nearH5066 , H8799and rolledH1556 H8686the stoneH68 from the well'sH875 mouthH6310, and wateredH8248 H8686the flockH6629 of LabanH3837 his mother'sH517 brotherH251. |
| [11]and whanne the flok was watrid, he kisside hir, and he wepte with `vois reisid. |
[11]And JacobH3290 kissedH5401 H8799RachelH7354, and lifted upH5375 H8799his voiceH6963, and weptH1058.[H8799] |
| [12]And he schewide to hir that he was the brothir of hir fadir, and the sone of Rebecca; and sche hastide, and telde to hir fadir. |
[12]And JacobH3290 toldH5046 H8686RachelH7354 that he was her father'sH1 brotherH251, and that he was Rebekah'sH7259 sonH1121: and she ranH7323 H8799and toldH5046 H8686her fatherH1. |
| [13]And whanne he hadde herd, that Jacob, the sone of his sistir, cam, he ran ayens hym, and he biclippide Jacob and kisside hym, and ledde in to his hows. Forsothe whanne the causis of the iurney weren herd, |
[13]And it came to pass, when LabanH3837 heardH8085 H8800the tidingsH8088 of JacobH3290 his sister'sH269 sonH1121, that he ranH7323 H8799to meetH7125 H8800him, and embracedH2263 H8762him, and kissedH5401 H8762him, and broughtH935 H8686him to his houseH1004. And he toldH5608 H8762LabanH3837 all these thingsH1697. |
| [14]Laban answeride, Thou art my boon and my fleisch. And aftir that the daies of o moneth weren fillid, Laban seide to him, |
[14]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799to him, SurelyH389 thou art my boneH6106 and my fleshH1320. And he abodeH3427 H8799with him the spaceH3117 of a monthH2320. |
| [15]`Whethir for thou art my brothir, thou schalt serue me frely? seie thou what mede thou schalt take. |
[15]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799unto JacobH3290, Because thou art my brotherH251, shouldest thou therefore serveH5647 H8804me for noughtH2600? tellH5046 H8685me, what shall thy wages beH4909? |
| [16]Forsothe Laban hadde twei douytris, the name of the more was Lya, sotheli the lesse was clepid Rachel; |
[16]And LabanH3837 had twoH8147 daughtersH1323: the nameH8034 of the elderH1419 was LeahH3812, and the nameH8034 of the youngerH6996 was RachelH7354. |
| [17]but Lya was blere iyed, Rachel was of fair face, and semeli in siyt. |
[17]LeahH3812 was tenderH7390 eyedH5869; but RachelH7354 was beautifulH3303 H8389and wellH3303 favouredH4758. |
| [18]And Jacob louede Rachel, and seide, Y schal serue thee seuene yeer for Rachel thi lesse douytir. |
[18]And JacobH3290 lovedH157 H8799RachelH7354; and saidH559 , H8799I will serveH5647 H8799thee sevenH7651 yearsH8141 for RachelH7354 thy youngerH6996 daughterH1323. |
| [19]Laban answeride, It is betere that Y yyue hir to thee than to anothir man; dwelle thou at me. |
[19]And LabanH3837 saidH559 , H8799It is betterH2896 that I giveH5414 H8800her to thee, than that I should giveH5414 H8800her to anotherH312 manH376: abideH3427 with meH8798. |
| [20]Therfor Jacob seruyde seuene yeer for Rachel; and the daies semyden fewe to hym for the greetnesse of loue. |
[20]And JacobH3290 servedH5647 H8799sevenH7651 yearsH8141 for RachelH7354; and they seemedH5869 unto him but a fewH259 daysH3117, for the love he had to herH160. |
| [21]And he seide to Laban, Yyue thou my wijf to me, for the tyme is fillid that Y entre to hir. |
[21]And JacobH3290 saidH559 H8799unto LabanH3837, GiveH3051 H8798me my wifeH802, for my daysH3117 are fulfilledH4390 , H8804that I may go inH935 unto herH8799. |
| [22]And whanne many cumpenyes of freendis weren clepid to the feeste, he made weddyngis, |
[22]And LabanH3837 gathered togetherH622 H8799all the menH582 of the placeH4725, and madeH6213 H8799a feastH4960. |
| [23]and in the euentid Laban brouyte in to hym Lya his douytir, |
[23]And it came to pass in the eveningH6153, that he tookH3947 H8799LeahH3812 his daughterH1323, and broughtH935 H8686her to him; and he went inH935 unto herH8799. |
| [24]and yaf an handmaide, Selfa bi name, to the douyter. And whanne Jacob hadde entrid to hir bi custom, whanne the morewtid was maad, he seiy Lya, |
[24]And LabanH3837 gaveH5414 H8799unto his daughterH1323 LeahH3812 ZilpahH2153 his maidH8198 for an handmaidH8198. |
| [25]and seide to his wyues fadir, What is it that thou woldist do? wher Y seruede not thee for Rachel? whi hast thou disseyued me? |
[25]And it came to pass, that in the morningH1242, behold, it was LeahH3812: and he saidH559 H8799to LabanH3837, What is this thou hast doneH6213 H8804unto me? did not I serveH5647 H8804with thee for RachelH7354? wherefore then hast thou beguiledH7411 meH8765? |
| [26]Laban answerde, It is not custom in oure place that we yyue first the `lesse douytris to weddyngis; |
[26]And LabanH3837 saidH559 , H8799It must not be so doneH6213 H8735in our countryH4725, to giveH5414 H8800the youngerH6810 beforeH6440 the firstbornH1067. |
| [27]fille thou the wouke of daies of this couplyng, and Y schal yyue to thee also this Rachel, for the werk in which thou schalt serue me bi othere seuene yeer. |
[27]FulfilH4390 H8761herH2063 weekH7620, and we will giveH5414 H8799thee this also for the serviceH5656 which thou shalt serveH5647 H8799with me yet sevenH7651 otherH312 yearsH8141. |
| [28]Jacob assentide to the couenaunt, and whanne the wouke was passid, |
[28]And JacobH3290 didH6213 H8799so, and fulfilledH4390 H8762her weekH7620: and he gaveH5414 H8799him RachelH7354 his daughterH1323 to wife alsoH802. |
| [29]he weddide Rachel, to whom the fadir hadde youe Bala seruauntesse. |
[29]And LabanH3837 gaveH5414 H8799to RachelH7354 his daughterH1323 BilhahH1090 his handmaidH8198 to be her maidH8198. |
| [30]And at the laste he vside the weddyngis desirid, and settide the loue of the `wijf suynge bifore the former; and he seruede at Laban seuene othere yeer. |
[30]And he went inH935 H8799also unto RachelH7354, and he lovedH157 H8799also RachelH7354 more than LeahH3812, and servedH5647 H8799with him yet sevenH7651 otherH312 yearsH8141. |
| [31]Forsothe the Lord seiy that he dispiside Lya, and openyde hir wombe while the sistir dwellide bareyn. |
[31]And when the LORDH3068 sawH7200 H8799that LeahH3812 was hatedH8130 , H8803he openedH6605 H8799her wombH7358: but RachelH7354 was barrenH6135. |
| [32]And Lia childide a sone conseyued, and clepide his name Ruben, and seide, The Lord seiy my mekenesse; now myn hosebonde schal loue me. |
[32]And LeahH3812 conceivedH2029 , H8799and bareH3205 H8799a sonH1121, and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 ReubenH7205: forH3588 she saidH559 , H8804SurelyH3588 the LORDH3068 hath lookedH7200 H8804upon my afflictionH6040; now thereforeH3588 my husbandH376 will loveH157 meH8799. |
| [33]And eft sche conseyuede, `and childide a sone, and seide, For the Lord seiy that Y was dispisid, he yaf also this sone to me; and sche clepide his name Symeon. |
[33]And she conceivedH2029 H8799again, and bareH3205 H8799a sonH1121; and saidH559 , H8799Because the LORDH3068 hath heardH8085 H8804that I was hatedH8130 , H8803he hath therefore givenH5414 H8799me this son also: and she calledH7121 H8799his nameH8034 SimeonH8095. |
| [34]And sche conseyuede the thridde tyme, and childide anothir sone, and she seide also, Now myn hosebonde schal be couplid to me, for Y childide thre sones to him; and therfor sche clepide his name Leuy. |
[34]And she conceived againH2029 , H8799and bareH3205 H8799a sonH1121; and saidH559 , H8799Now this timeH6471 will my husbandH376 be joinedH3867 H8735unto me, because I have bornH3205 H8804him threeH7969 sonsH1121: therefore was his nameH8034 calledH7121 H8804LeviH3878. |
| [35]The fourthe tyme sche conseyuede, and childide a sone, and seide, Now I schal knouleche to the Lord; and herfor she clepide his name Judas; and ceesside to childe. |
[35]And she conceivedH2029 H8799again, and bareH3205 H8799a sonH1121: and she saidH559 , H8799NowH6471 will I praiseH3034 H8686the LORDH3068: therefore she calledH7121 H8804his nameH8034 JudahH3063; and leftH5975 H8799bearingH3205.[H8800] |
