[1]The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur, the son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, |
| [2]EnquireH1875[H8798], I pray thee, of the LORDH3068 for usH1157; for NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 maketh warH3898[H8737] against us; if so be that the LORDH3068 will dealH6213[H8799] with us according to all his wondrous worksH6381[H8737], that he may go upH5927 from usH8799. |
[2]Inquire, I pray thee, of the Lord for us, (for Nebuchad-nezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us) if so be that the Lord will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may return up from us. |
| [3]Then saidH559[H8799] JeremiahH3414 unto them, Thus shall ye sayH559[H8799] to ZedekiahH6667: |
[3]Then said Jeremiah, Thus shall you say to Zedekiah, |
| [4]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478; Behold, I will turn backH5437[H8688] the weaponsH3627 of warH4421 that are in your handsH3027, wherewith ye fightH3898[H8737] against the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and against the ChaldeansH3778, which besiegeH6696[H8802] you withoutH2351 the wallsH2346, and I will assembleH622[H8804] them into the midstH8432 of this cityH5892. |
[4]Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Caldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. |
| [5]And I myself will fightH3898[H8738] against you with an outstretchedH5186[H8803] handH3027 and with a strongH2389 armH2220, even in angerH639, and in furyH2534, and in greatH1419 wrathH7110. |
[5]And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand, and with a mighty arm, even in anger and in wrath, and in great indignation. |
| [6]And I will smiteH5221[H8689] the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of this cityH5892, both manH120 and beastH929: they shall dieH4191[H8799] of a greatH1419 pestilenceH1698. |
[6]And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man, and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence. |
| [7]And afterwardH310, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, I will deliverH5414[H8799] ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and his servantsH5650, and the peopleH5971, and such as are leftH7604[H8737] in this cityH5892 from the pestilenceH1698, from the swordH2719, and from the famineH7458, into the handH3027 of NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and into the handH3027 of their enemiesH341[H8802], and into the handH3027 of those that seekH1245[H8764] their lifeH5315: and he shall smiteH5221[H8689] them with the edgeH6310 of the swordH2719; he shall not spareH2347[H8799] them, neither have pityH2550[H8799], nor have mercyH7355.[H8762] |
[7]And after this, saith the Lord, I will deliver Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city, from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their lives, and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword: he shall not spare them, neither have pity nor compassion. |
| [8]And unto this peopleH5971 thou shalt sayH559[H8799], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Behold, I setH5414[H8802] beforeH6440 you the wayH1870 of lifeH2416, and the wayH1870 of deathH4194. |
[8]And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. |
| [9]He that abidethH3427[H8802] in this cityH5892 shall dieH4191[H8799] by the swordH2719, and by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: but he that goeth outH3318[H8802], and fallethH5307[H8804] to the ChaldeansH3778 that besiegeH6696[H8802] you, he shall liveH2421[H8804][H8675][H2421][H8799], and his lifeH5315 shall be unto him for a preyH7998. |
[9]He that abideth in this city, shall die by the sword and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Caldeans, that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey. |
| [10]For I have setH7760[H8804] my faceH6440 against this cityH5892 for evilH7451, and not for goodH2896, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: it shall be givenH5414[H8735] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall burnH8313[H8804] it with fireH784. |
[10]For I have set my face against this city, for evil and not for good, saith the Lord: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire. |
| [11]And touching the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, say, HearH8085[H8798] ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068; |
[11]And say unto the house of the king of Judah, Hear ye the word of the Lord. |
| [12]O houseH1004 of DavidH1732, thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; ExecuteH1777[H8798] judgmentH4941 in the morningH1242, and deliverH5337[H8685] him that is spoiledH1497[H8803] out of the handH3027 of the oppressorH6231[H8802], lest my furyH2534 go outH3318[H8799] like fireH784, and burnH1197[H8804] that none can quenchH3518[H8764] it, becauseH6440 of the evilH7455 of your doingsH4611. |
[12]O house of David, thus saith the Lord, Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver the oppressed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go out like fire and burn, that none can quench it, because of the wickedness of your works. |
| [13]Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitantH3427[H8802] of the valleyH6010, and rockH6697 of the plainH4334, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068; which sayH559[H8802], Who shall come downH5181[H8799] against us? or who shall enterH935[H8799] into our habitationsH4585? |
[13]Behold, I come against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the Lord, which say, Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations? |
| [14]But I will punishH6485[H8804] you according to the fruitH6529 of your doingsH4611, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: and I will kindleH3341[H8689] a fireH784 in the forestH3293 thereof, and it shall devourH398[H8804] all things round about itH5439. |
[14]But I will visit you according to the fruit of your works, saith the Lord, and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour round about it. |
