[1]The word that came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchad-nezzar. |
| [2]For then the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 armyH2428 besiegedH6696[H8802] JerusalemH3389: and JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 was shut upH3607[H8803] in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307, which was in the kingH4428 of Judah'sH3063 houseH1004. |
[2]For then the king of Babylon's host besieged Jerusalem: And Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house. |
| [3]For ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 had shut him upH3607[H8804], sayingH559[H8800], Wherefore dost thou prophesyH5012[H8737], and sayH559[H8800], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, Behold, I will giveH5414[H8802] this cityH5892 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall takeH3920 itH8804; |
[3]For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will give this city into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it? |
| [4]And ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 shall not escapeH4422[H8735] out of the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, but shall surelyH5414[H8736] be deliveredH5414[H8735] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and shall speakH1696[H8765] with him mouthH6310 to mouthH6310, and his eyesH5869 shall beholdH7200[H8799] his eyesH5869; |
[4]And Zedekiah the king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his face, |
| [5]And he shall leadH3212[H8686] ZedekiahH6667 to BabylonH894, and there shall he be until I visitH6485[H8800] him, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: though ye fightH3898[H8735] with the ChaldeansH3778, ye shall not prosperH6743.[H8686] |
[5]And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be, until I visit him, saith the Lord: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper. |
| [6]And JeremiahH3414 saidH559[H8799], The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[6]And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying, |
| [7]Behold, HanameelH2601 the sonH1121 of ShallumH7967 thine uncleH1730 shall comeH935[H8802] unto thee, sayingH559[H8800], BuyH7069[H8798] thee my fieldH7704 that is in AnathothH6068: for the rightH4941 of redemptionH1353 is thine to buyH7069 itH8800. |
[7]Behold, Hanameel, the son of Shallum thine uncle, shall come unto thee and say, Buy unto thee my field, that is in Anathoth: for the title by kindred appertaineth unto thee to buy it. |
| [8]So HanameelH2601 mine uncle'sH1730 sonH1121 cameH935[H8799] to me in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307 according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and saidH559[H8799] unto me, BuyH7069[H8798] my fieldH7704, I pray thee, that is in AnathothH6068, which is in the countryH776 of BenjaminH1144: for the rightH4941 of inheritanceH3425 is thine, and the redemptionH1353 is thine; buyH7069[H8798] it for thyself. Then I knewH3045[H8799] that this was the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. |
[8]So Hanameel, mine uncle's son, came to me in the court of the prison, according to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of the possession is thine, and the purchase belongeth unto thee: buy it for thee. Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. |
| [9]And I boughtH7069[H8799] the fieldH7704 of HanameelH2601 my uncle'sH1730 sonH1121, that was in AnathothH6068, and weighedH8254[H8799] him the moneyH3701, even seventeenH7651[H6235] shekelsH8255 of silverH3701. |
[9]And I bought the field of Hanameel, mine uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the silver, even seven shekels, and ten pieces of silver. |
| [10]And I subscribedH3789[H8799] the evidenceH5612, and sealedH2856[H8799] it, and tookH5749[H8686] witnessesH5707, and weighedH8254[H8799] him the moneyH3701 in the balancesH3976. |
[10]And I wrote it in the book and signed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the silver in the balances. |
| [11]So I tookH3947[H8799] the evidenceH5612 of the purchaseH4736, both that which was sealedH2856[H8803] according to the lawH4687 and customH2706, and that which was openH1540:[H8803] |
[11]So I took the book of the possession, being sealed according to the law, and custom, with the book that was open, |
| [12]And I gaveH5414[H8799] the evidenceH5612 of the purchaseH4736 unto BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, the sonH1121 of MaaseiahH4271, in the sightH5869 of HanameelH2601 mine uncle'sH1730 son, and in the presenceH5869 of the witnessesH5707 that subscribedH3789[H8802] the bookH5612 of the purchaseH4736, beforeH5869 all the JewsH3064 that satH3427[H8802] in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307. |
[12]And I gave the book of the possession unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses, written in the book of the possession, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison. |
| [13]And I chargedH6680[H8762] BaruchH1263 beforeH5869 them, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[13]And I charged Baruch before them, saying, |
| [14]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; TakeH3947[H8800] these evidencesH5612, this evidenceH5612 of the purchaseH4736, both which is sealedH2856[H8803], and this evidenceH5612 which is openH1540[H8803]; and putH5414[H8804] them in an earthenH2789 vesselH3627, that they may continueH5975[H8799] manyH7227 daysH3117. |
[14]Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Take the writings, even this book of the possession, both that is sealed, and this book that is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue a long time. |
| [15]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; HousesH1004 and fieldsH7704 and vineyardsH3754 shall be possessed againH7069[H8735] in this landH776. |
[15]For the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel saith thus, Houses and fields, and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land. |
| [16]Now whenH310 I had deliveredH5414[H8800] the evidenceH5612 of the purchaseH4736 unto BaruchH1263 the sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, I prayedH6419[H8691] unto the LORDH3068, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[16]Now when I had delivered the book of the possession unto Baruch, the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the Lord, saying, |
| [17]AhH162 LordH136 GODH3069! behold, thou hast madeH6213[H8804] the heavenH8064 and the earthH776 by thy greatH1419 powerH3581 and stretched outH5186[H8803] armH2220, and there is nothingH1697 too hardH6381 for theeH8735: |
[17]Ah Lord God, behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power, and by thy stretched out arm, and there is nothing hard unto thee. |
| [18]Thou shewestH6213[H8802] lovingkindnessH2617 unto thousandsH505, and recompensestH7999[H8764] the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1 into the bosomH2436 of their childrenH1121 afterH310 them: the GreatH1419, the MightyH1368 GodH410, the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, is his nameH8034, |
[18]Thou showest mercy unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: O God the Great and Mighty, whose name is the Lord of Hosts, |
| [19]GreatH1419 in counselH6098, and mightyH7227 in workH5950: for thine eyesH5869 are openH6491[H8803] upon all the waysH1870 of the sonsH1121 of menH120: to giveH5414[H8800] every oneH376 according to his waysH1870, and according to the fruitH6529 of his doingsH4611: |
[19]Great in counsel, and mighty in work, (for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give to every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his works) |
| [20]Which hast setH7760[H8804] signsH226 and wondersH4159 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, even unto this dayH3117, and in IsraelH3478, and among other menH120; and hast madeH6213[H8799] thee a nameH8034, as at this dayH3117; |
[20]Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt unto this day, and in Israel, and among all men, and hast made thee a name, as appeareth this day, |
| [21]And hast brought forthH3318[H8686] thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 with signsH226, and with wondersH4159, and with a strongH2389 handH3027, and with a stretched outH5186[H8803] armH248, and with greatH1419 terrorH4172; |
[21]And hast brought thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, with a stretched out arm, and with great terror, |
| [22]And hast givenH5414[H8799] them this landH776, which thou didst swearH7650[H8738] to their fathersH1 to giveH5414[H8800] them, a landH776 flowingH2100[H8802] with milkH2461 and honeyH1706; |
[22]And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, even a land, that floweth with milk and honey, |
| [23]And they came inH935[H8799], and possessedH3423[H8799] it; but they obeyedH8085[H8804] not thy voiceH6963, neither walkedH1980[H8804] in thy lawH8451; they have doneH6213[H8804] nothing of all that thou commandedstH6680[H8765] them to doH6213[H8800]: therefore thou hast caused all this evilH7451 to comeH7122 upon themH8686: |
[23]And they came in, and possessed it, but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law: all that thou commandest them to do, they have not done: therefore thou hast caused this whole plague to come upon them. |
| [24]Behold the mountsH5550, they are comeH935[H8804] unto the cityH5892 to takeH3920[H8800] it; and the cityH5892 is givenH5414[H8738] into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, that fightH3898[H8737] against it, becauseH6440 of the swordH2719, and of the famineH7458, and of the pestilenceH1698: and what thou hast spokenH1696[H8765] is come to pass; and, behold, thou seestH7200 itH8802. |
[24]Behold, the mounts, they are come into the city to take it, and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it by means of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence, and what thou hast spoken, is come to pass, and behold, thou seest it. |
| [25]And thou hast saidH559[H8804] unto me, O LordH136 GODH3069, BuyH7069[H8798] thee the fieldH7704 for moneyH3701, and takeH5749[H8685] witnessesH5707; for the cityH5892 is givenH5414[H8738] into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778. |
[25]And thou hast said unto me, O Lord God, Buy unto thee the field for silver, and take witnesses: for the city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans. |
| [26]Then came the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto JeremiahH3414, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[26]Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying, |
| [27]Behold, I am the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of all fleshH1320: is there any thingH1697 too hardH6381 for meH8735? |
[27]Behold, I am the Lord God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me? |
| [28]Therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Behold, I will giveH5414[H8802] this cityH5892 into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, and into the handH3027 of NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and he shall takeH3920 itH8804: |
[28]Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzar, king of Babylon, and he shall take it. |
| [29]And the ChaldeansH3778, that fightH3898[H8737] against this cityH5892, shall comeH935[H8804] and setH3341[H8689] fireH784 on this cityH5892, and burnH8313[H8804] it with the housesH1004, upon whose roofsH1406 they have offered incenseH6999[H8765] unto BaalH1168, and poured outH5258[H8689] drink offeringsH5262 unto otherH312 godsH430, to provoke me to angerH3707.[H8687] |
[29]And the Chaldeans shall come and fight against this city, and set fire on this city and burn it, with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me unto anger. |
| [30]For the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 and the childrenH1121 of JudahH3063 have only doneH6213[H8802] evilH7451 beforeH5869 me from their youthH5271: for the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 have only provoked me to angerH3707[H8688] with the workH4639 of their handsH3027, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[30]For the children of Israel, and the children of Judah have surely done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have surely provoked me to anger with the works of their hands, saith the Lord. |
| [31]For this cityH5892 hath been to me as a provocation of mine angerH639 and of my furyH2534 from the dayH3117 that they builtH1129[H8804] it even unto this dayH3117; that I should removeH5493[H8687] it from before my faceH6440, |
[31]Therefore this city hath been unto me as a provocation of mine anger, and of my wrath, from the day, that they built it, even unto this day, that I should remove it out of my sight, |
| [32]Because of all the evilH7451 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 and of the childrenH1121 of JudahH3063, which they have doneH6213[H8804] to provoke me to angerH3707[H8687], they, their kingsH4428, their princesH8269, their priestsH3548, and their prophetsH5030, and the menH376 of JudahH3063, and the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of JerusalemH3389. |
[32]Because of all the evil of the children of Israel, and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, even they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| [33]And they have turnedH6437[H8799] unto me the backH6203, and not the faceH6440: though I taughtH3925[H8763] them, rising up earlyH7925[H8687] and teachingH3925[H8763] them, yet they have not hearkenedH8085[H8802] to receiveH3947[H8800] instructionH4148. |
[33]And they have turned unto me the back and not the face: though I taught them rising up early, and instructing them, yet they were not obedient to receive doctrine, |
| [34]But they setH7760[H8799] their abominationsH8251 in the houseH1004, which is calledH7121[H8738] by my nameH8034, to defileH2930 itH8763. |
[34]But they set their abominations in the house (whereupon my name was called) to defile it, |
| [35]And they builtH1129[H8799] the high placesH1116 of BaalH1168, which are in the valleyH1516 of the sonH1121 of HinnomH2011, to cause their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323 to passH5674[H8687] through the fire unto MolechH4432; which I commandedH6680[H8765] them not, neither cameH5927[H8804] it into my mindH3820, that they should doH6213[H8800] this abominationH8441, to cause JudahH3063 to sinH2398.[H8687] |
[35]And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of Benhinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech, which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do such abomination, to cause Judah to sin. |
| [36]And now therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, concerning this cityH5892, whereof ye sayH559[H8802], It shall be deliveredH5414[H8738] into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 by the swordH2719, and by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698; |
[36]And now therefore, thus hath the Lord God of Israel spoken, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence, |
| [37]Behold, I will gather them outH6908[H8764] of all countriesH776, whither I have drivenH5080[H8689] them in mine angerH639, and in my furyH2534, and in greatH1419 wrathH7110; and I will bring them againH7725[H8689] unto this placeH4725, and I will cause them to dwellH3427[H8689] safelyH983: |
[37]Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, wherein I have scattered them in mine anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation, and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely. |
| [38]And they shall be my peopleH5971, and I will be their GodH430: |
[38]And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. |
| [39]And I will giveH5414[H8804] them oneH259 heartH3820, and oneH259 wayH1870, that they may fearH3372[H8800] me for everH3117, for the goodH2896 of them, and of their childrenH1121 after themH310: |
[39]And I will give them one heart and one way that they may fear me forever for the wealth of them, and of their children after them. |
| [40]And I will makeH3772[H8804] an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285 with them, that I will not turn awayH7725[H8799] from themH310, to do them goodH3190[H8687]; but I will putH5414[H8799] my fearH3374 in their heartsH3824, that they shall not departH5493 from meH8800. |
[40]And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will never turn away from them to do them good, but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. |
| [41]Yea, I will rejoiceH7797[H8804] over them to do them goodH2895[H8687], and I will plantH5193[H8804] them in this landH776 assuredlyH571 with my whole heartH3820 and with my whole soulH5315. |
[41]Yea, I will delight in them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart, and with all my soul. |
| [42]For thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Like as I have broughtH935[H8689] all this greatH1419 evilH7451 upon this peopleH5971, so will I bringH935[H8688] upon them all the goodH2896 that I have promisedH1696 themH8802. |
[42]For thus saith the Lord, Like as I have brought all this great plague upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them. |
| [43]And fieldsH7704 shall be boughtH7069[H8738] in this landH776, whereof ye sayH559[H8802], It is desolateH8077 without manH120 or beastH929; it is givenH5414[H8738] into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778. |
[43]And the fields shall be possessed in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast, and shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans. |
| [44]Men shall buyH7069[H8799] fieldsH7704 for moneyH3701, and subscribeH3789[H8800] evidencesH5612, and sealH2856[H8800] them, and takeH5749[H8687] witnessesH5707 in the landH776 of BenjaminH1144, and in the places aboutH5439 JerusalemH3389, and in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and in the citiesH5892 of the mountainsH2022, and in the citiesH5892 of the valleyH8219, and in the citiesH5892 of the southH5045: for I will cause their captivityH7622 to returnH7725[H8686], saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[44]Men shall buy fields for silver, and make writings and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and round about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the plain, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the Lord. |
