| [1]At that timeH6256, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068, they shall bring outH3318[H8686] the bonesH6106 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, and the bonesH6106 of his princesH8269, and the bonesH6106 of the priestsH3548, and the bonesH6106 of the prophetsH5030, and the bonesH6106 of the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of JerusalemH3389, out of their gravesH6913: |
[1]At that time, saith the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of their princes, and the bones of the priests and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem out of their graves. |
| [2]And they shall spreadH7849[H8804] them before the sunH8121, and the moonH3394, and all the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, whom they have lovedH157[H8804], and whom they have servedH5647[H8804], and afterH310 whom they have walkedH1980[H8804], and whom they have soughtH1875[H8804], and whom they have worshippedH7812[H8694]: they shall not be gatheredH622[H8735], nor be buriedH6912[H8735]; they shall be for dungH1828 upon the faceH6440 of the earthH127. |
[2]And they shall spread them before the sun and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and whom they have followed, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered nor be buried, but shall be as dung upon the earth. |
| [3]And deathH4194 shall be chosenH977[H8738] rather than lifeH2416 by all the residueH7611 of them that remainH7604[H8737] of this evilH7451 familyH4940, which remainH7604[H8737] in all the placesH4725 whither I have drivenH5080[H8689] them, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635. |
[3]And death shall be desired rather than life of all the residue that remaineth of this wicked family, which remain in all the places where I have scattered them, saith the Lord of hosts. |
| [4]Moreover thou shalt sayH559[H8804] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Shall they fallH5307[H8799], and not ariseH6965[H8799]? shall he turn awayH7725[H8799], and not returnH7725?[H8799] |
[4]Thou shalt say unto them also, Thus saith the Lord, Shall they fall and not arise? Shall he turn away and not turn again? |
| [5]Why then is this peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 slidden backH7725[H8790] by a perpetualH5329[H8737] backslidingH4878? they holdH2388[H8689] fast deceitH8649, they refuseH3985[H8765] to returnH7725.[H8800] |
[5]Wherefore is this people of Jerusalem turned back by a perpetual rebellion? They gave themselves to deceit, and would not return. |
| [6]I hearkenedH7181[H8689] and heardH8085[H8799], but they spake not arightH1696[H8762]: no manH376 repentedH5162[H8737] him ofH5921 his wickednessH7451, sayingH559[H8800], What have I doneH6213[H8804]? every one turnedH7725[H8804] to his courseH4794, as the horseH5483 rushethH7857[H8802] into the battleH4421. |
[6]I hearkened and heard, but none spake aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? Every one turned to their race, as the horse rusheth into the battle. |
| [7]Yea, the storkH2624 in the heavenH8064 knowethH3045[H8804] her appointed timesH4150; and the turtleH8449 and the craneH5483 and the swallowH5693 observeH8104[H8804] the timeH6256 of their comingH935[H8800]; but my peopleH5971 knowH3045[H8804] not the judgmentH4941 of the LORDH3068. |
[7]Even the stork in the air knoweth her appointed times, and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming, but my people knoweth not the judgment of the Lord. |
| [8]How do ye sayH559[H8799], We are wiseH2450, and the lawH8451 of the LORDH3068 is with us? Lo, certainlyH403 in vainH8267 madeH6213[H8804] he it; the penH5842 of the scribesH5608[H8802] is in vainH8267. |
[8]How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it, the pen of the scribes is in vain. |
| [9]The wiseH2450 men are ashamedH3001[H8689], they are dismayedH2865[H8804] and takenH3920[H8735]: lo, they have rejectedH3988[H8804] the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068; and what wisdom is in themH2451? |
[9]The wise men are ashamed: they are afraid and taken. lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord, and what wisdom is in them? |
| [10]Therefore will I giveH5414[H8799] their wivesH802 unto othersH312, and their fieldsH7704 to them that shall inheritH3423[H8802] them: for every one from the leastH6996 even unto the greatestH1419 is givenH1214[H8802] to covetousnessH1215, from the prophetH5030 even unto the priestH3548 every one dealethH6213[H8802] falselyH8267. |
[10]Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them: for everyone from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, and from the prophet even unto the priest, everyone dealeth falsely. |
| [11]For they have healedH7495[H8762] the hurtH7667 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 slightlyH7043[H8738], sayingH559[H8800], PeaceH7965, peaceH7965; when there is no peaceH7965. |
[11]For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people with sweet words, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace. |
| [12]Were they ashamedH3001[H8689] when they had committedH6213[H8804] abominationH8441? nay, they were not at allH954[H8800] ashamedH954[H8799], neither couldH3045[H8804] they blushH3637[H8736]: therefore shall they fallH5307[H8799] among them that fallH5307[H8802]: in the timeH6256 of their visitationH6486 they shall be cast downH3782[H8735], saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068. |
[12]Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not ashamed, neither could they have any shame: therefore shall they fall among the slain: when I shall visit them, they shall be cast down, saith the Lord. |
| [13]I will surelyH622[H8800] consumeH5486[H8686] them, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068: there shall be no grapesH6025 on the vineH1612, nor figsH8384 on the fig treeH8384, and the leafH5929 shall fadeH5034[H8804]; and the things that I have givenH5414[H8799] them shall pass awayH5674 from themH8799. |
[13]I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade, and the things that I have given them, shall depart from them. |
| [14]Why do we sit stillH3427[H8802]? assembleH622[H8734] yourselves, and let us enterH935[H8799] into the defencedH4013 citiesH5892, and let us be silentH1826[H8735] there: for the LORDH3068 our GodH430 hath put us to silenceH1826[H8689], and given us waterH4325 of gallH7219 to drinkH8248[H8686], because we have sinnedH2398[H8804] against the LORDH3068. |
[14]Why do we stay? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the strong cities, and let us be quiet there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence and given us water with gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord. |
| [15]We lookedH6960[H8763] for peaceH7965, but no goodH2896 came; and for a timeH6256 of healthH4832, and behold troubleH1205! |
[15]We looked for peace, but no good came, and for a time of health, and behold troubles. |
| [16]The snortingH5170 of his horsesH5483 was heardH8085[H8738] from DanH1835: the whole landH776 trembledH7493[H8804] at the soundH6963 of the neighingH4684 of his strong onesH47; for they are comeH935[H8799], and have devouredH398[H8799] the landH776, and allH4393 that is in it; the cityH5892, and those that dwellH3427 thereinH8802. |
[16]The neighing of his horses was heard from Dan, the whole land trembled at the noise of the neighing of his strong horses: for they are come, and have devoured the land with all that is in it, the city, and those that dwell therein. |
| [17]For, behold, I will sendH7971[H8764] serpentsH5175, cockatricesH6848, among you, which will not be charmedH3908, and they shall biteH5391[H8765] you, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068. |
[17]For behold, I will send serpents, and cockatrices among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall sting you, saith the Lord. |
| [18]When I would comfortH4010 myself against sorrowH3015, my heartH3820 is faint in meH1742. |
[18]I would have comforted myself against sorrow, but mine heart is heavy in me. |
| [19]Behold the voiceH6963 of the cryH7775 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 because of them that dwell in a farH4801 countryH776: Is not the LORDH3068 in ZionH6726? is not her kingH4428 in her? Why have they provoked me to angerH3707[H8689] with their graven imagesH6456, and with strangeH5236 vanitiesH1892? |
[19]Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people for fear of them of a far country, Is not the Lord in Zion? Is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with the vanities of a strange god? |
| [20]The harvestH7105 is pastH5674[H8804], the summerH7019 is endedH3615[H8804], and we are not savedH3467.[H8738] |
[20]The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not holpen. |
| [21]For the hurtH7667 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 am I hurtH7665[H8717]; I am blackH6937[H8804]; astonishmentH8047 hath taken holdH2388 on meH8689. |
[21]I am sore vexed for the hurt of the daughter of my people: I am heavy, and astonishment hath taken me. |
| [22]Is there no balmH6875 in GileadH1568; is there no physicianH7495[H8802] there? why thenH3588 is not the healthH724 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 recoveredH5927?[H8804] |
[22]Is there no balm at Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered. |
