| [1]And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto JonahH3124 the secondH8145 time, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[1]And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, |
| [2]AriseH6965[H8798], goH3212[H8798] unto NinevehH5210, that greatH1419 cityH5892, and preachH7121[H8798] unto it the preachingH7150 that I bidH1696 theeH8802. |
[2]Arise, go unto Nineveh that great city, and preach unto it the preaching, which I bid thee. |
| [3]So JonahH3124 aroseH6965[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] unto NinevehH5210, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. Now NinevehH5210 was an exceedingH430 greatH1419 cityH5892 of threeH7969 days'H3117 journeyH4109. |
[3]So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the Lord: now Nineveh was a great and excellent city of three days journey. |
| [4]And JonahH3124 beganH2490[H8686] to enterH935[H8800] into the cityH5892 aH259 day'sH3117 journeyH4109, and he criedH7121[H8799], and saidH559[H8799], Yet fortyH705 daysH3117, and NinevehH5210 shall be overthrownH2015.[H8737] |
[4]And Jonah began to enter into the city a days journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. |
| [5]So the peopleH582 of NinevehH5210 believedH539[H8686] GodH430, and proclaimedH7121[H8799] a fastH6685, and putH3847[H8799] on sackclothH8242, from the greatestH1419 of them even to the least of themH6996. |
[5]So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest of them even to the least of them. |
| [6]For wordH1697 cameH5060[H8799] unto the kingH4428 of NinevehH5210, and he aroseH6965[H8799] from his throneH3678, and he laidH5674[H8686] his robeH155 from him, and coveredH3680[H8762] him with sackclothH8242, and satH3427[H8799] in ashesH665. |
[6]For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he rose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. |
| [7]And he caused it to be proclaimedH2199[H8686] and publishedH559[H8799] through NinevehH5210 by the decreeH2940 of the kingH4428 and his noblesH1419, sayingH559[H8800], Let neither manH120 nor beastH929, herdH1241 nor flockH6629, tasteH2938[H8799] any thingH3972: let them not feedH7462[H8799], nor drinkH8354[H8799] waterH4325: |
[7]And he proclaimed and said through Nineveh, (by the counsel of the king and his nobles) saying, Let neither man, nor beast, bullock nor sheep taste anything, neither feed nor drink water. |
| [8]But let manH120 and beastH929 be coveredH3680[H8691] with sackclothH8242, and cryH7121[H8799] mightilyH2394 unto GodH430: yea, let them turnH7725[H8799] every oneH376 from his evilH7451 wayH1870, and from the violenceH2555 that is in their handsH3709. |
[8]But let man and beast put on sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let every man turn from his evil way, and from the wickedness that is in their hands. |
| [9]Who can tellH3045[H8802] if GodH430 will turnH7725[H8799] and repentH5162[H8738], and turn awayH7725[H8804] from his fierceH2740 angerH639, that we perishH6 notH8799? |
[9]Who can tell if God will turn, and repent and turn away from his fierce wrath, that we perish not? |
| [10]And GodH430 sawH7200[H8799] their worksH4639, that they turnedH7725[H8804] from their evilH7451 wayH1870; and GodH430 repentedH5162[H8735] of the evilH7451, that he had saidH1696[H8765] that he would doH6213[H8800] unto them; and he didH6213 it notH8804. |
[10]And God saw their works that they turned from their evil ways: and God repented of the evil that he had said that he would do unto them, and he did it not. |
