| [1]AND when Jesus entered and passed through Jericho, |
[1]καὶ εἰσελθὼν διήρχετο τὴν ἰεριχώ. |
| [2]There was a man named Zacchaeus, who was rich and chief of the publicans. |
[2]καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ὀνόματι καλούμενος ζακχαῖος, καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἀρχιτελώνης καὶ αὐτὸς πλούσιος. |
| [3]And he wanted to see who Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for Zacchaeus was small in his stature. |
[3]καὶ ἐζήτει ἰδεῖν τὸν ἰησοῦν τίς ἐστιν, καὶ οὐκ ἠδύνατο ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου ὅτι τῇ ἡλικίᾳ μικρὸς ἦν. |
| [4]So he ran ahead of Jesus, and climbed up into a fig tree without leaves, that he might see him, because he was to pass that way. |
[4]καὶ προδραμὼν εἰς τὸ ἔμπροσθεν ἀνέβη ἐπὶ συκομορέαν ἵνα ἴδῃ αὐτόν, ὅτι ἐκείνης ἤμελλεν διέρχεσθαι. |
| [5]When Jesus came to that place, he saw him and said to him, Make haste, come down, O Zacchaeus, for today I must remain in your house. |
[5]καὶ ὡς ἦλθεν ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον, ἀναβλέψας ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, ζακχαῖε, σπεύσας κατάβηθι, σήμερον γὰρ ἐν τῶ οἴκῳ σου δεῖ με μεῖναι. |
| [6]And he hastened, and came down, and welcomed him with joy. |
[6]καὶ σπεύσας κατέβη, καὶ ὑπεδέξατο αὐτὸν χαίρων. |
| [7]Now when they all saw it, they murmured, saying, He has entered to stay in the house of a sinner. |
[7]καὶ ἰδόντες πάντες διεγόγγυζον λέγοντες ὅτι παρὰ ἁμαρτωλῶ ἀνδρὶ εἰσῆλθεν καταλῦσαι. |
| [8]But Zacchaeus rose up and said to Jesus, Behold, my Lord, half of my wealth I will give to the poor; and I will pay fourfold to every man from whom I have extorted. |
[8]σταθεὶς δὲ ζακχαῖος εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν κύριον, ἰδοὺ τὰ ἡμίσιά μου τῶν ὑπαρχόντων, κύριε, τοῖς πτωχοῖς δίδωμι, καὶ εἴ τινός τι ἐσυκοφάντησα ἀποδίδωμι τετραπλοῦν. |
| [9]Jesus said to him, Today life has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham. |
[9]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι σήμερον σωτηρία τῶ οἴκῳ τούτῳ ἐγένετο, καθότι καὶ αὐτὸς υἱὸς ἀβραάμ ἐστιν· |
| [10]For the Son of man came to seek and save that which was lost. |
[10]ἦλθεν γὰρ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ζητῆσαι καὶ σῶσαι τὸ ἀπολωλός. |
| [11]While they were listening to these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they were expecting that the kingdom of God would appear at that very hour; |
[11]ἀκουόντων δὲ αὐτῶν ταῦτα προσθεὶς εἶπεν παραβολὴν διὰ τὸ ἐγγὺς εἶναι ἰερουσαλὴμ αὐτὸν καὶ δοκεῖν αὐτοὺς ὅτι παραχρῆμα μέλλει ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ἀναφαίνεσθαι. |
| [12]And he said, A great man of a noble family went to a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and return. |
[12]εἶπεν οὗν, ἄνθρωπός τις εὐγενὴς ἐπορεύθη εἰς χώραν μακρὰν λαβεῖν ἑαυτῶ βασιλείαν καὶ ὑποστρέψαι. |
| [13]And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Do business until I come back. |
[13]καλέσας δὲ δέκα δούλους ἑαυτοῦ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς δέκα μνᾶς καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, πραγματεύσασθε ἐν ᾧ ἔρχομαι. |
| [14]But the people of his city hated him, and sent messengers after him, saying, We do not want him to rule over us. |
[14]οἱ δὲ πολῖται αὐτοῦ ἐμίσουν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν πρεσβείαν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ λέγοντες, οὐ θέλομεν τοῦτον βασιλεῦσαι ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς. |
| [15]And when he received the kingdom and returned, he commanded to call his servants, to whom he had given the money, that he might know what each one of them had gained in business. |
[15]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῶ ἐπανελθεῖν αὐτὸν λαβόντα τὴν βασιλείαν καὶ εἶπεν φωνηθῆναι αὐτῶ τοὺς δούλους τούτους οἷς δεδώκει τὸ ἀργύριον, ἵνα γνοῖ τί διεπραγματεύσαντο. |
| [16]The first one came and said, My lord, your pound has gained ten pounds. |
[16]παρεγένετο δὲ ὁ πρῶτος λέγων, κύριε, ἡ μνᾶ σου δέκα προσηργάσατο μνᾶς. |
| [17]He said to him, O good servant, because you are found faithful in a little, you will have charge over ten talents. |
[17]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῶ, εὗγε, ἀγαθὲ δοῦλε, ὅτι ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ πιστὸς ἐγένου, ἴσθι ἐξουσίαν ἔχων ἐπάνω δέκα πόλεων. |
| [18]And the second came and said, My lord, your pound has gained five pounds. |
[18]καὶ ἦλθεν ὁ δεύτερος λέγων, ἡ μνᾶ σου, κύριε, ἐποίησεν πέντε μνᾶς. |
| [19]He said to this one also, You also will have charge over five talents. |
[19]εἶπεν δὲ καὶ τούτῳ, καὶ σὺ ἐπάνω γίνου πέντε πόλεων. |
| [20]And another one came and said, My lord, here is your pound which was with me, which I kept laid up in a purse. |
[20]καὶ ὁ ἕτερος ἦλθεν λέγων, κύριε, ἰδοὺ ἡ μνᾶ σου ἣν εἶχον ἀποκειμένην ἐν σουδαρίῳ· |
| [21]For I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you pick up what you have not laid down, and you reap what you have not sown. |
[21]ἐφοβούμην γάρ σε, ὅτι ἄνθρωπος αὐστηρὸς εἶ, αἴρεις ὃ οὐκ ἔθηκας καὶ θερίζεις ὃ οὐκ ἔσπειρας. |
| [22]He said to him, I will judge you from your own mouth, O wicked servant. You knew me that I am a harsh man, and pick up what I have not laid down, and reap what I have not sown. |
[22]λέγει αὐτῶ, ἐκ τοῦ στόματός σου κρίνω σε, πονηρὲ δοῦλε. ᾔδεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος αὐστηρός εἰμι, αἴρων ὃ οὐκ ἔθηκα καὶ θερίζων ὃ οὐκ ἔσπειρα; |
| [23]Why then did you not give my money to the exchange, so that when I came I could demand it with its interest? |
[23]καὶ διὰ τί οὐκ ἔδωκάς μου τὸ ἀργύριον ἐπὶ τράπεζαν; κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν σὺν τόκῳ ἂν αὐτὸ ἔπραξα. |
| [24]And he said to those who stood in his presence, Take away the pound from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds. |
[24]καὶ τοῖς παρεστῶσιν εἶπεν, ἄρατε ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ τὴν μνᾶν καὶ δότε τῶ τὰς δέκα μνᾶς ἔχοντι |
| [25]They said to him, Our lord, he has already with him ten pounds. |
[25]_ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, κύριε, ἔχει δέκα μνᾶς _ |
| [26]He said to them, I say to you, to everyone who has shall be given; and from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away from him. |
[26]λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι παντὶ τῶ ἔχοντι δοθήσεται, ἀπὸ δὲ τοῦ μὴ ἔχοντος καὶ ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται. |
| [27]But those my enemies, who were not willing that I should rule over them, bring them here, and kill them before me. |
[27]πλὴν τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου τούτους τοὺς μὴ θελήσαντάς με βασιλεῦσαι ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς ἀγάγετε ὧδε καὶ κατασφάξατε αὐτοὺς ἔμπροσθέν μου. |
| [28]And when Jesus had said these things, he went forward to go to Jerusalem. |
[28]καὶ εἰπὼν ταῦτα ἐπορεύετο ἔμπροσθεν ἀναβαίνων εἰς ἱεροσόλυμα. |
| [29]And when he arrived at Bethphage and Bethany, on the side of the mountain which is called the Home of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, |
[29]καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤγγισεν εἰς βηθφαγὴ καὶ βηθανία[ν] πρὸς τὸ ὄρος τὸ καλούμενον ἐλαιῶν, ἀπέστειλεν δύο τῶν μαθητῶν |
| [30]And he said to them, Go to the village which is in front of us; and when you enter it you will find a colt tied up, on which no man has ever ridden; untie it and bring it. |
[30]λέγων, ὑπάγετε εἰς τὴν κατέναντι κώμην, ἐν ᾗ εἰσπορευόμενοι εὑρήσετε πῶλον δεδεμένον, ἐφ᾽ ὃν οὐδεὶς πώποτε ἀνθρώπων ἐκάθισεν, καὶ λύσαντες αὐτὸν ἀγάγετε. |
| [31]And if any man should ask you, Why do you untie it? tell him this: Our lord needs it. |
[31]καὶ ἐάν τις ὑμᾶς ἐρωτᾷ, διὰ τί λύετε; οὕτως ἐρεῖτε ὅτι ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ χρείαν ἔχει. |
| [32]And those who were sent went away, and found just as he had told them. |
[32]ἀπελθόντες δὲ οἱ ἀπεσταλμένοι εὖρον καθὼς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς. |
| [33]And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, Why do you untie the colt? |
[33]λυόντων δὲ αὐτῶν τὸν πῶλον εἶπαν οἱ κύριοι αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτούς, τί λύετε τὸν πῶλον; |
| [34]And they said to them, Our Lord needs it. |
[34]οἱ δὲ εἶπαν ὅτι ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ χρείαν ἔχει. |
| [35]And they brought it to Jesus; and they put their garments on the colt, and they set Jesus on it. |
[35]καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν πρὸς τὸν ἰησοῦν, καὶ ἐπιρίψαντες αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐπὶ τὸν πῶλον ἐπεβίβασαν τὸν ἰησοῦν. |
| [36]And as he went on, they spread their garments on the road. |
[36]πορευομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ὑπεστρώννυον τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ. |
| [37]And when he came near to the descent of the Mount of the Home of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, praising God with a loud voice, for all the miracles which they had seen, |
[37]ἐγγίζοντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤδη πρὸς τῇ καταβάσει τοῦ ὄρους τῶν ἐλαιῶν ἤρξαντο ἅπαν τὸ πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν χαίροντες αἰνεῖν τὸν θεὸν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ περὶ πασῶν ὧν εἶδον δυνάμεων, |
| [38]Saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest. |
[38]λέγοντες, εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου· ἐν οὐρανῶ εἰρήνη καὶ δόξα ἐν ὑψίστοις. |
| [39]But some of the men of the Pharisees who were in the multitude said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples. |
[39]καί τινες τῶν φαρισαίων ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτόν, διδάσκαλε, ἐπιτίμησον τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου. |
| [40]He said to them, I say to you, that if these should keep silent, the stones would cry out. |
[40]καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐὰν οὖτοι σιωπήσουσιν, οἱ λίθοι κράξουσιν. |
| [41]And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it; |
[41]καὶ ὡς ἤγγισεν, ἰδὼν τὴν πόλιν ἔκλαυσεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτήν, |
| [42]And he said, If you had only known those who are concerned in your peace, even in this your day! but now they are hidden from your eyes. |
[42]λέγων ὅτι εἰ ἔγνως ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ καὶ σὺ τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην _ νῦν δὲ ἐκρύβη ἀπὸ ὀφθαλμῶν σου. |
| [43]But the days will come to you, when your enemies will surround you, and oppress you from every place, |
[43]ὅτι ἥξουσιν ἡμέραι ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ παρεμβαλοῦσιν οἱ ἐχθροί σου χάρακά σοι καὶ περικυκλώσουσίν σε καὶ συνέξουσίν σε πάντοθεν, |
| [44]And will overthrow you, and your children within you; and they will not leave in you a stone upon a stone; because you did not know the time when you were to be visited. |
[44]καὶ ἐδαφιοῦσίν σε καὶ τὰ τέκνα σου ἐν σοί, καὶ οὐκ ἀφήσουσιν λίθον ἐπὶ λίθον ἐν σοί, ἀνθ᾽ ὧν οὐκ ἔγνως τὸν καιρὸν τῆς ἐπισκοπῆς σου. |
| [45]And when he entered the temple, he began to put out those who were buying and selling in it; |
[45]καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἤρξατο ἐκβάλλειν τοὺς πωλοῦντας, |
| [46]And he said to them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer; but you have made it a cave of bandits. |
[46]λέγων αὐτοῖς, γέγραπται, καὶ ἔσται ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος προσευχῆς, ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτὸν ἐποιήσατε σπήλαιον λῃστῶν. |
| [47]And he taught every day in the temple. But the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people sought to get rid of him; |
[47]καὶ ἦν διδάσκων τὸ καθ᾽ ἡμέραν ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ. οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἀπολέσαι καὶ οἱ πρῶτοι τοῦ λαοῦ· |
| [48]But they were not able to find what to do to him; for all the people hung around him to hear him. |
[48]καὶ οὐχ εὕρισκον τὸ τί ποιήσωσιν, ὁ λαὸς γὰρ ἅπας ἐξεκρέματο αὐτοῦ ἀκούων. |
