[1]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις, [1]And it came to passe, that on one of those dayes, as he taught ye people in the temple, & preached the Gospell, the hie priestes and the scribes came vpo hym, with the elders
[2]καὶ εἶπαν λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν, εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην. [2]And spake vnto him, saying: Tell vs by what aucthoritie doest thou these thynges? Eyther who is he that gaue thee this aucthoritie
[3]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι· [3]Iesus aunswered, & sayde vnto them: I also wyll aske you one thyng, & aunswere me
[4]τὸ βάπτισμα ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων; [4]The baptisme of Iohn, was it from heauen, or of men
[5]οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ, διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῶ; [5]And they reasoned within the selues, saying, Yf we say from heauen, he wyll say, why then beleued ye hym not
[6]ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν, ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ὁ λαὸς ἅπας καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι. [6]But and yf we say of men, all the people wyll stone vs: For they be perswaded that Iohn is a prophete
[7]καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν. [7]And they aunswered, that they coulde not tell whence it was
[8]καὶ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ. [8]And Iesus saide vnto them: Neither tell I you by what aucthoritie I do these thynges
[9]ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ἄνθρωπός [τις] ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς. [9]Then began he to put foorth to the people this parable. A certayne man planted a vineyarde, and let it foorth to husbande men, and went hym selfe into a straunge countrey for a great season
[10]καὶ καιρῶ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς δοῦλον, ἵνα ἀπὸ τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος δώσουσιν αὐτῶ· οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν δείραντες κενόν. [10]And when the time was come, he sent a seruaunt to the husbande men, that they shoulde geue hym of the fruite of the vineyarde. And they beat hym, and sent hym away emptie
[11]καὶ προσέθετο ἕτερον πέμψαι δοῦλον· οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν. [11]And agayne, he sent yet another seruaunt: and hym they did beate, and entreated hym shamefully, and sent hym away emptie
[12]καὶ προσέθετο τρίτον πέμψαι· οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον. [12]Agayne, he sent the thirde also: and hym they wounded, and cast hym out
[13]εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, τί ποιήσω; πέμψω τὸν υἱόν μου τὸν ἀγαπητόν· ἴσως τοῦτον ἐντραπήσονται. [13]Then said the Lord of the vineyarde: What shal I do? I wyl send my deare sonne, it may be they wyll reuerence hym, when they see hym
[14]ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία. [14]But when the husbande men sawe him, they reasoned within them selues, saying: This is the heyre, come, let vs kyll hym, that the inheritaunce may be ours
[15]καὶ ἐκβαλόντες αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ἀπέκτειναν. τί οὗν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος; [15]And they cast him out of the vineyard, and kylled hym. What shall the Lorde of the vineyarde therfore do vnto them
[16]ἐλεύσεται καὶ ἀπολέσει τοὺς γεωργοὺς τούτους, καὶ δώσει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλοις. ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἶπαν, μὴ γένοιτο. [16]He shall come and destroye these husbande men, & shall let out his vineyarde to other. When they hearde this, they sayde, God forbyd
[17]ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν, τί οὗν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο· λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὖτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας; [17]And he behelde them, & sayde: What is this then that is written, The stone that the buylders refused, the same is become the head of the corner
[18]πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπ᾽ ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφ᾽ ὃν δ᾽ ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν. [18]Whosoeuer doth stumble vppon that stone, shalbe broken: but on whosoeuer it falleth, it wyll grinde hym to powder
[19]καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸν λαόν· ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην. [19]And the hye priestes & the scribes, the same houre went about to laye handes on hym: and they feared the people. For they perceaued that he had spoken this similitude agaynst them
[20]καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ὥστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος. [20]And they watched hym, & sent foorth spyes, which shoulde fayne them selues ryghteous men, to take hym in his wordes, and to delyuer hym vnto the power and aucthoritie of the deputie
[21]καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις· [21]And they asked him, saying: Maister, we knowe that thou sayest and teachest ryght, neither considerest thou the outwarde appearaunce of any man, but teachest the way of God truely
[22]ἔξεστιν ἡμᾶς καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ; [22]Is is lawfull for vs to geue tribute vnto Caesar, or no
[23]κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, [23]He perceaued their craftynesse, & saide vnto them: why tempt ye me
[24]δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, καίσαρος. [24]Shewe me a penie, whose image and superscription hath it? They aunswered and sayde, Caesars
[25]ὁ δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε τὰ καίσαρος καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῶ θεῶ. [25]And he sayde vnto them: Geue then vnto Caesar, the thynges which belong vnto Caesar, and to God the thynges that perteyne vnto God
[26]καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι αὐτοῦ ῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν. [26]And they coulde not reproue his saying before the people: and they marueyled at his aunswere, & helde their peace
[27]προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν σαδδουκαίων, οἱ [ἀντι]λέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν [27]Then came to hym certayne of the saducees, which denie that there is any resurrection, and they asked hym
[28]λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, μωϊσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὖτος ἄτεκνος ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῶ ἀδελφῶ αὐτοῦ. [28]Saying: Maister, Moyses wrote vnto vs, yf any mans brother dye, hauyng a wyfe, and he dye without chyldren: that then his brother shoulde take his wyfe, & rayse vp seede vnto his brother
[29]ἑπτὰ οὗν ἀδελφοὶ ἦσαν· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος λαβὼν γυναῖκα ἀπέθανεν ἄτεκνος· [29]There were therfore seuen brethren, and the first toke a wyfe, & dyed without chyldren
[30]καὶ ὁ δεύτερος [30]And the seconde toke her, and he dyed chyldlesse
[31]καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἔλαβεν αὐτήν, ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἑπτὰ οὐ κατέλιπον τέκνα καὶ ἀπέθανον. [31]And the thirde toke her, & in lykewise the residue of the seuen, and left no chyldren behynde them, and dyed
[32]ὕστερον καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν. [32]Last of all, the woman dyed also
[33]ἡ γυνὴ οὗν ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα. [33]Nowe in the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? For seuen had her to wyfe
[34]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ γαμίσκονται, [34]Iesus aunswered and saide vnto the: The chyldren of this worlde marrye wyues, and are marryed
[35]οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε γαμίζονται· [35]But they which shalbe counted worthy to enioy that worlde, and the resurrection from the dead, do not marrye wyues, neither are marryed
[36]οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀποθανεῖν ἔτι δύνανται, ἰσάγγελοι γάρ εἰσιν, καὶ υἱοί εἰσιν θεοῦ, τῆς ἀναστάσεως υἱοὶ ὄντες. [36]Nor yet can dye any more: For they are equall vnto the angels, and are the sonnes of God, inasmuche as they are chyldren of the resurrection
[37]ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ μωϊσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἀβραὰμ καὶ θεὸν ἰσαὰκ καὶ θεὸν ἰακώβ· [37]And that the dead shall ryse agayne, Moyses also sheweth besides the bushe, when he calleth the Lorde the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, & the God of Iacob
[38]θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῶ ζῶσιν. [38]For he is not a God of dead, but of lyuyng: For all lyue vnto hym
[39]ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν, διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας· [39]Then certayne of the pharisees aunswered, and sayde? Maister, thou hast well sayde
[40]οὐκέτι γὰρ ἐτόλμων ἐπερωτᾶν αὐτὸν οὐδέν. [40]And after that, durst they not aske him any question at all
[41]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν εἶναι δαυὶδ υἱόν; [41]And he sayde vnto them: Howe saye they that Christe is Dauids sonne
[42]αὐτὸς γὰρ δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν, εἶπεν κύριος τῶ κυρίῳ μου, κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου [42]And Dauid hym selfe sayeth in the booke of the psalmes: The Lord saide to my Lord, syt thou on my right hand
[43]ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου. [43]Tyll I make thine enemies thy footestoole
[44]δαυὶδ οὗν κύριον αὐτὸν καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς αὐτοῦ υἱός ἐστιν; [44]Dauid therfore calleth hym Lorde, & howe is he then his sonne
[45]ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς [αὐτοῦ], [45]Then in the audience of all the people, he saide vnto his disciples
[46]προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις, [46]Beware of the scribes, whiche wyll go in long robes, and loue greetinges in the markets, and the hyest seates in the synagogues, and the chiefe rowmes at feastes
[47]οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὖτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα. [47]Which deuour widowes howses vnder colour of longe prayers: The same shall receaue greater dampnation
