Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]JESUS then looked at the rich men who were casting their offerings into the trea sury.
[2]εἶδεν δέ τινα χήραν πενιχρὰν βάλλουσαν ἐκεῖ λεπτὰ δύο, [2]And he also saw a poor widow, who cast in two pennies.
[3]καὶ εἶπεν, ἀληθῶς λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἡ χήρα αὕτη ἡ πτωχὴ πλεῖον πάντων ἔβαλεν· [3]And he said, Truly I say to you, that this poor widow has cast in more than every man.
[4]For all these cast into the house of the offerings of God of their abundance; but she of her poverty cast in everything she had earned.
[5]καί τινων λεγόντων περὶ τοῦ ἱεροῦ, ὅτι λίθοις καλοῖς καὶ ἀναθήμασιν κεκόσμηται, εἶπεν, [5]While some men were talking about the temple, that it was adorned with beautiful stones and gift offerings, Jesus said to them,
[6]These things which you see, the days will come when not a stone will be left upon a stone, which will not be torn down.
[7]ἐπηρώτησαν δὲ αὐτὸν λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, πότε οὗν ταῦτα ἔσται, καὶ τί τὸ σημεῖον ὅταν μέλλῃ ταῦτα γίνεσθαι; [7]And they asked him, saying, Teacher, when will these things happen? and what is the sign when these things are about to happen?
[8]He said to them, Be careful that you may not be deceived; for many will come in my name, and say, I am the Christ; and the time is near; but do not follow them.
[9]And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be afraid; for all these things must first come to pass; but the end is not vet.
[10]τότε ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, ἐγερθήσεται ἔθνος ἐπ᾽ ἔθνος καὶ βασιλεία ἐπὶ βασιλείαν, [10]For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
[11]And there will be great earthquakes in different places, and famines and plagues; and there will be alarming sights, and great signs will appear from heaven; and the winters will be severe.
[12]πρὸ δὲ τούτων πάντων ἐπιβαλοῦσιν ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ διώξουσιν, παραδιδόντες εἰς τὰς συναγωγὰς καὶ φυλακάς, ἀπαγομένους ἐπὶ βασιλεῖς καὶ ἡγεμόνας ἕνεκεν τοῦ ὀνόματός μου· [12]But before all these things, they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, and deliver you to the synagogues and the prisons; and they will bring you before kings and governors for the sake of my name.
[13]It will be to you for a testimony.
[14]θέτε οὗν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν μὴ προμελετᾶν ἀπολογηθῆναι, [14]Treasure it in your heart, and do not try to learn what to answer.
[15]For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your enemies will not be able to withstand.
[16]παραδοθήσεσθε δὲ καὶ ὑπὸ γονέων καὶ ἀδελφῶν καὶ συγγενῶν καὶ φίλων, καὶ θανατώσουσιν ἐξ ὑμῶν, [16]You will be delivered up even by your parents and brothers, and your relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.
[17]And you will be hated by every man because of my name.
[18]And yet not a hair of your head will be lost.
[19]By your patience you will gain your souls.
[20]But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by an army, then know that its destruction is at hand.
[21]τότε οἱ ἐν τῇ ἰουδαίᾳ φευγέτωσαν εἰς τὰ ὄρη, καὶ οἱ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς ἐκχωρείτωσαν, καὶ οἱ ἐν ταῖς χώραις μὴ εἰσερχέσθωσαν εἰς αὐτήν, [21]Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountain; and let those who are within it flee; and let those who are in the fields not enter into it.
[22]For these are the days of vengeance, so that everything which is written must be fulfilled.
[23]οὐαὶ ταῖς ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσαις καὶ ταῖς θηλαζούσαις ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις· ἔσται γὰρ ἀνάγκη μεγάλη ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὀργὴ τῶ λαῶ τούτῳ, [23]But woe to those who are with child, and to those who give suck in those days! For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people.
[24]And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and they will be taken captive to every country; and Jerusalem will be trodden under the feet of the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles comes to an end.
[25]καὶ ἔσονται σημεῖα ἐν ἡλίῳ καὶ σελήνῃ καὶ ἄστροις, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς συνοχὴ ἐθνῶν ἐν ἀπορίᾳ ἤχους θαλάσσης καὶ σάλου, [25]And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars; and on earth distress of the nations, and confusion because of the roaring of the sea;
[26]And upheaval that takes life out of men, because of fear of what is to come on earth; and the powers of the universe will be shaken.
[27]Then they will see the Son of man coming in the clouds, with a large army and great glory.
[28]But when these things begin to happen, have courage, and lift up your heads; because your salvation is at hand.
[29]καὶ εἶπεν παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς· ἴδετε τὴν συκῆν καὶ πάντα τὰ δένδρα· [29]And he said to them a parable, Look at the fig tree and all the trees;
[30]ὅταν προβάλωσιν ἤδη, βλέποντες ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτῶν γινώσκετε ὅτι ἤδη ἐγγὺς τὸ θέρος ἐστίν· [30]When they put forth leaves, you immediately understand by them that the summer is near.
[31]Even so you also, when you see these things happen, know that the kingdom of God is near.
[32]Truly I say to you, This generation will not pass away until all these things happen.
[33]Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
[34]προσέχετε δὲ ἑαυτοῖς μήποτε βαρηθῶσιν ὑμῶν αἱ καρδίαι ἐν κραιπάλῃ καὶ μέθῃ καὶ μερίμναις βιωτικαῖς, καὶ ἐπιστῇ ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς αἰφνίδιος ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη [34]But take heed to yourselves, that your hearts may not become heavy by extravagance, and drunkenness, and worries of this world, and that day come suddenly upon you.
[35]For like a downpour it will entrap all those who dwell on the face of all the earth.
[36]Therefore keep watch all the time and pray, so that you may be worthy to escape all these things which are to happen, and that you may stand before the Son of man.
[37]ἦν δὲ τὰς ἡμέρας ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ διδάσκων, τὰς δὲ νύκτας ἐξερχόμενος ηὐλίζετο εἰς τὸ ὄρος τὸ καλούμενον ἐλαιῶν· [37]During the day he taught in the temple; and at night he went out, and lodged in the mountain, which is called the Home of Olives.
[38]And all the people came ahead of him to the temple, to hear him.
