[1]Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
[2]And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this man perverting the people, and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.
[3]And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him, and said, Thou sayest it.
[4]Then said Pilate to the high Priests, and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
[5]But they were the more fierce, saying, He moveth the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning at Galilee, even to this place.
[6]πιλᾶτος δὲ ἀκούσας ἐπηρώτησεν εἰ ὁ ἄνθρωπος γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν· [6]Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
[7]And when he knew that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Jerusalem in those days.
[8]And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and trusted to have seen some sign done by him.
[9]Then questioned he with him of many things: but he answered him nothing.
[10]The high Priests also and Scribes stood forth and accused him vehemently.
[11]And Herod with his men of war, despised him, and mocked him, and arrayed him in white, and sent him again to Pilate.
[12]And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were enemies one to another.
[13]πιλᾶτος δὲ συγκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τὸν λαὸν [13] Then Pilate called together the high Priests, and the rulers, and the people,
[14]εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας οὐθὲν εὖρον ἐν τῶ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατ᾽ αὐτοῦ, [14]And said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverted the people: and behold, I have examined him before you, and have found no fault in this man, of those things whereof ye accuse him:
[15]No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him: and lo, nothing worthy of death is done to him.
[16]I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
[17](For of necessity he must have let one loose unto them at the feast.)
[18]ἀνέκραγον δὲ παμπληθεὶ λέγοντες, αἶρε τοῦτον, ἀπόλυσον δὲ ἡμῖν τὸν βαραββᾶν· [18]Then all the multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliver to us Barabbas:
[19]Which for a certain insurrection made in the city, and murder was cast in prison.
[20]πάλιν δὲ ὁ πιλᾶτος προσεφώνησεν αὐτοῖς, θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν ἰησοῦν· [20]Then Pilate spake again to them, willing to let Jesus loose.
[21]But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him.
[22]And he said unto them the third time, But what evil hath he done? I find no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
[23]But they were instant with loud voices, and required that he might be crucified: and the voices of them and of the high Priests prevailed.
[24]καὶ πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινεν γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν· [24]So Pilate gave sentence, that it should be as they required.
[25]And he let loose unto them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whom they desired, and delivered Jesus to do with him what they would.
[26] And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, coming out of the field, and on him they laid the cross, to bear it after Jesus.
[27]And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, which women bewailed and lamented him.
[28]στραφεὶς δὲ πρὸς αὐτὰς [ὁ] ἰησοῦς εἶπεν, θυγατέρες ἰερουσαλήμ, μὴ κλαίετε ἐπ᾽ ἐμέ· πλὴν ἐφ᾽ ἑαυτὰς κλαίετε καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν, [28]But Jesus turned back unto them, and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
[29]For behold, the days will come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
[30]τότε ἄρξονται λέγειν τοῖς ὄρεσιν, πέσετε ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς, καὶ τοῖς βουνοῖς, καλύψατε ἡμᾶς· [30]Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us: and to the hills, Cover us.
[31]ὅτι εἰ ἐν τῶ ὑγρῶ ξύλῳ ταῦτα ποιοῦσιν, ἐν τῶ ξηρῶ τί γένηται; [31]For if they do these things to a green tree, what shall be done to the dry?
[32]And there were two others, which were evildoers, led with him to be slain.
[33]And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the evildoers: one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
[34]Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
[35]And the people stood, and beheld: and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saved others: let him save himself, if he be the Christ, the Chosen of God.
[36]ἐνέπαιξαν δὲ αὐτῶ καὶ οἱ στρατιῶται προσερχόμενοι, ὄξος προσφέροντες αὐτῶ [36]The soldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vinegar,
[37]And said, If thou be the King of the Jews, save thyself.
[38]And a superscription was also written over him, in Greek letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
[39] And one of the evil doers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us.
[40]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἕτερος ἐπιτιμῶν αὐτῶ ἔφη, οὐδὲ φοβῇ σὺ τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ἐν τῶ αὐτῶ κρίματι εἶ; [40]But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fearest thou not God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
[41]We are indeed righteously here: for we receive things worthy of that we have done: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
[42]And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me, when thou comest into thy kingdom.
[43]Then Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
[44]καὶ ἦν ἤδη ὡσεὶ ὥρα ἕκτη καὶ σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ᾽ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης [44] And it was about the sixth hour: and there was a darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.
[45]And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the Temple rent through the midst.
[46]And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and said, Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit. And when he thus had said, He gave up the ghost.
[47] Now when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Of a surety this man was just.
[48]And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things, which were done , smote their breasts, and returned.
[49]And all his acquaintance stood a far off, and the women that followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
[50]καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ὀνόματι ἰωσὴφ βουλευτὴς ὑπάρχων [καὶ] ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς καὶ δίκαιος [50] And behold, there was a man named Joseph, which was a counselor, a good man and a just.
[51]_ οὖτος οὐκ ἦν συγκατατεθειμένος τῇ βουλῇ καὶ τῇ πράξει αὐτῶν _ ἀπὸ ἁριμαθαίας πόλεως τῶν ἰουδαίων, ὃς προσεδέχετο τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, [51]He did not consent to the counsel and deed of them, which was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
[52]οὖτος προσελθὼν τῶ πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ἰησοῦ, [52]He went unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus,
[53]And took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb hewn out of a rock, wherein was never man yet laid.
[54]And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.
[55]κατακολουθήσασαι δὲ αἱ γυναῖκες, αἵτινες ἦσαν συνεληλυθυῖαι ἐκ τῆς γαλιλαίας αὐτῶ, ἐθεάσαντο τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ ὡς ἐτέθη τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ, [55]And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galilee, beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid.
καὶ τὸ μὲν σάββατον ἡσύχασαν κατὰ τὴν ἐντολήν, [56]And they returned and prepared odors, and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
